Gizmo and Stripe Dimensions Figures Revealed At E3

FamilyGamerTV on YouTube put up the above video from E3 showcasing some of the new, upcoming figures for LEGO Dimensions. Of note, Gizmo and Stripe from the Gremlins franchise are revealed. These figures, and I’m guessing a few others, were behind closed doors and not on the main floor. Gizmo uses the short legs yet Stripe uses the full sized legs making him freakishly large compared to the other minifigures. The only way I can think of that they could have pulled off a proper sized Gizmo and Stripe was to use the new baby figures. Despite his size, Stripe looks very detailed and should end up being quite a nice looking figure.

They didn’t have all of the figures out on the game kiosks, ’cause boy how I would have loved to play as B.A. Baracus. Alas, I could only admire him from behind the glass case. They did have a a few out that you could play: Mission Impossible’s Ethan Hunt, Adventure Time’s Jake and Finn, and Harry Potter and others. I snapped a few pics of the figs and sets that were out. I also took some video showing Finn’s weapons swapping ability. That video’s on the bottom.

The Ghostbusters Story Pack comes with a new portal build that you can use with the toy pad and in place of the original portal gateway.

  • Green Arrow Is The E3 Exclusive

Green Arrow Is The E3 Exclusive

Update: Green Arrow is not an E3 exclusive. It is a “fan event exclusive”, meaning he will be given away at other events. You are encouraged to follow LEGO Dimensions on social media to find other ways to obtain him. You can find LEGO Dimensions on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Green Arrow is this year’s LEGO Dimensions E3 exclusive. He comes with a gold disc, which all promo/limited edition characters will come with. He loads up as a character in the game but will not come with any battle arena maps or other goodies like the other year 2 assortments will.

There were rumors that a Supergirl figure would also be given away here but so far she is a no show. She may be given away at this year’s San Diego Comic Con as there is usually a large video game presence there and it is the next major pop culture event on the calendar. Of course once we have confirmation we’ll post it here.

  • YouTube Live Previews LEGO Dimensions Battle Arenas

YouTube Live Previews LEGO Dimensions Battle Arenas

E3 is happening this week and starts today as a matter of fact. This video above is a recording of the YouTube live stream. There’s a segment right at the beginning covering one of the new features that’s coming out in LEGO Dimensions with the new wave: Battle Arenas. They demo the Capture the Flag game in a 4-player split screen mode. Some things I’ve been able to glean from the demo:

    • Every single new pack will have content for Battle Arenas .
    • There are power ups that you can use in the arena.
    • You can use flying characters (which seems rather unfair when playing against characters that can’t fly but maybe the arena power ups will account for that)
    • You can use the first year’s characters in the battle arenas.
    • You can play by yourself against CPU characters.
    • The release schedule for future sets will follow the same schedule as last year: September, November, January, and March.

The demo only lasts a few minutes and shows some disruption-type effects you can lay on your opponents.

  • Amazon Lists Pre-orders For New DIMENSIONS Packs, Discounts Existing Packs

Amazon Lists Pre-orders For New DIMENSIONS Packs, Discounts Existing Packs

Amazon has listed the newly announced LEGO Dimensions Story, Level, Team and Fun packs on their site. They also published a release date of September 27, 2016 for this wave. Pricing is MSRP but with Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee, you’ll always get their lowest price listed between the time your order and the time the game ships. There are no new starter sets as the new wave, and I’m assuming all future waves, will be compatible with the existing Toy Pad.

Need to catch up? Amazon is also discounting most if not all existing packs. Now’s a perfect time to fill the holes in your collection. Here’s a samplling of what’s on sale:

  • LEGO Dimensions Announces New Properties

    LEGO Dimensions Announces New Properties

Reports of Dimensions Death have been greatly exaggerated. Okay, there were no reports, it was mostly questions because they didn’t talk about it. Apparently they weren’t talking about it because they were saving up all the awesome for this announcement. I mean, let’s go down the list:

    • The trailer music is by OK GO, whom I love (also used in one of the greatest music videos ever)
    • Adventure Time
    • Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible) tickles Scooby Doo… we now have an official Tom Cruise minifig, people
    • The star of the worst video game ever and a movie that was equally as bad (and overrated), E.T. – Yeah, I expect some fights over this one in the comments
    • It’s all worth it for Batman talking to a wearer of a Superman T-Shirt (and character in an awesome movie you should watch instead of ET)
    • I PITY THE FOO!
    • Adventure Time!
    • GIZMO! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
    • Harry Potter making a triumphant return to LEGO
    • New Ghostbusters characters
    • And the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
    • … also, Sonic the Hedgehog

That’s not all, actually, the press release has some even better tidbits of what’s to come, like Powerpuff Girls, Knight Rider, and Beetlejuice (noted in the trailer). Perhaps they should just call this “LEGO Dimensions: All the 30-somethings Childhood” at this point. Or whoever is in Marketing there understands that we late-30s / early-40s crowd all have kids that are of a video game age and… my god, they are evil geniuses!

Seriously though… Gizmo! Pictures and the full press release are below the fold.

  • New Dimensions Fun Packs, LEGO Scooby-Doo Haunted Hollywood Movie Released

New Dimensions Fun Packs, LEGO Scooby-Doo Haunted Hollywood Movie Released

    LEGO Scooby

LEGO is a company that always likes to keep its secrets, but I’m thinking they might have gone overboard on their original movie, LEGO Scooby-Doo Haunted Hollywood, which came out today. Thrak360 on the forums pointed this out as well, and I saw it when I was at Target picking up Deadpool (which also came out today). My daughter loves the LEGO movies, so I had to pick it up. For those who are curious, he comes packaged in a polybag with the movie.

    All Wave 5 (02)

In similar news of releases, though this is less “didn’t know” and more “forgot about entirely,” the Wave 5 stuff for Dimensions also showed up today, featuring Ghostbuster’s Slimer and Batman’s Bane. I’d ordered Slimer from Amazon back in December, and was shocked when it showed up today (damaged, crushed, and mangled… thanks, Amazon!).

    All Wave 5 (01)

I’m not sure when it happened, but it looks like Dimensions Fun Packs have also had their MSRP dropped to $11.99, and Bane is currently enjoying a discount on top of that, so you can get him for just $8.50 as of this writing. Unfortunately, Slimer is out of stock, which isn’t surprising, given that your other option for getting him is a $350 set. Might be time to order Bane and crack out Dimensions…

  • Pre-order Wave 4 Fun Packs For Half Off, Including Stay Puft

Pre-order Wave 4 Fun Packs For Half Off, Including Stay Puft

Wave 4 Fun Packs for LEGO Dimensions is currently priced at 50% off at just $7.49 each. There are only three Fun Packs for the upcoming wave:

The Stay Puft is the clear need-to-have set out of the bunch since it comes with a unique Stay Puft Marshmallow Man minifigure that isn’t available anywhere else. These are also cheap ways to get Aquaman and Superman as well if you missed out or just want a couple of extra.

Prime members are also supposed to get an additional 20% off pre-orders and recently released new games. The other Wave 4 item, 81235 Midway Retro Gamer Level Pack, is $29.99 but with Prime discount the price drops down to $23.99. The discount is reflected on the final page of check out. Unfortunately, the 20% discount doesn’t seem to apply to the Fun Packs as it still shows the $7.49 price tag on the at check out page. It may be because it is already discounted so we’ll see what the final bill is once they all ship.

Wave 4 is scheduled to release on March 15, 2016.

  • The LEGO Dimensions Price Wars Continues: Amazon Matches GameStop’s 50% Discount On Fun Packs

The LEGO Dimensions Price Wars Continues: Amazon Matches GameStop’s 50% Discount On Fun Packs

So it seems that GameStop online put a selection of their Fun Packs on sale for half off. Yeah, you heard me: half off! In typical Amazon response, they also put the same Fun Packs on sale.

There are a couple of catches with Amazon you should be aware of though. Firstly, they eliminated the $5 discount they were offering earlier this week on Fun Packs (for the record, the $10 discount on Team and Level packs still applies but it is unknown for how much longer). Secondly, there are two packs on GameStop that are half off that Amazon is not reflecting: Ninjago Nya and Zane packs. And lastly, most of the sets are temporarily out of stock and are only available to Prime members.

GameStop has a free shipping coupon code SAVER for in-stock orders of $25 or more. It’s kind of cost prohibitive if you’re only looking to get a few, and plus it only applies to in-stock items. And the price goes back up to normal MSRP if you want to pay online and pick up in store. Useful if you want to pick up a bunch of sets and/or you’re a Power Rewards member. Amazon is the better deal as they offer free shipping with no minimum for both in-stock and pre-order items assuming you’re a Prime members.

I’m not sure what any of this means. The few people I’ve talked to about all of these sales and deals seem to think that Dimensions is NOT doing as well as LEGO and WBIE hoped it would do. I always defended the game and theorized that the toys-to-life category is a hotly contested and that Dimensions is doing what they can to capture marketshare. But now I’m not so sure. I have no numbers to back up my theory and I don’t play any other games, so I am completely ignorant as to whether or not the other games are as aggressive with the sales as LEGO Dimensions has been. There are still a few more waves of sets and levels that are coming out later this year with the last wave of Fun Packs set for May 31, 2016. We’ll have to wait until maybe E3 of this year to see what else they have planned for the game.

Here’s a complete list of Fun Packs that are on sale for just $7.49 each with links to both Amazon and GameStop:

  • Amazon Offers $5 Discount Per Dimensions Fun Pack, $10 Per Level, Team Packs, Including Pre-orders

Amazon Offers $5 Discount Per Dimensions Fun Pack, $10 Per Level, Team Packs, Including Pre-orders

Update: Amazon is also offering a $10 discount on all Level and Team packs as well, including pre-orders. Team packs are now just $14.99, 40% off of MSRP, and Level Packs are just $19.99, 33% off of MSRP, when shipped and sold by Amazon. Discount is automatically applied for each Fun, Team, and Level Packs at checkout.

Amazon is currently having a LEGO Dimensions Fun Pack promotion. Take $5 off each Fun Pack ordered that is shipped and sold by Amazon.com. This includes pre-orders for upcoming packs as well as packs that are already on sale such as Unikitty, Wicked Witch, and Eris. Those last three are currently $11.88 and with the promotion they drop down to just $6.88 before any tax or shipping. MSRP for Fun Packs are $14.99 so this $5 offer is the same as getting a 33% discount. Again, this works on upcoming sets that will be released next year such as Ghostbusters Stay Puft and the Doctor Who Cyberman Fun Packs.
