This has been a quiet year for the site… for some documented reasons for some that will probably be documented later on in this whole thing. But we’ve all been looking forward to doing the Advents, our yearly tradition that still happens to be a thing despite the fact that the internet is dead and it’s just bots talking to bots now. Beep boop.
Originally, we were going to mix it up this year but… things didn’t work out. Scalpers went hard in Dallas and the Star Wars Advent disappeared within a few days and never came back in stock, so Nick’s plan to do the Star Wars calendar fell through. We’re going to go with it just being the universe punishing him by making him do the Marvel Advent yet again. Something that just might finish him off this time.
We’re also going to do the newer tradition of going with non-LEGO calendars, because Advents are the new socks are the new ugly sweaters are the new yearly ornaments. Okay, that joke got away, but the point is that everything has an advent now.
Even Rocks.
That’s a hint, LEGO… bring back Rock Raiders. The world needs them now more than ever.
The scores so far:
- Star Wars: 5 Hits / 1 Misses
- Disney: 5 Hits / 1 Miss
- Marvel: 1 Hit / 5 Misses
Ace: Star Wars Day 7 (and Disney)
Not gonna lie, I had no idea what this was. I was going to go with a Hoth stoplight but because of a recent conversation I had with a fellow Discord member, there was a chart that outlined the theme of each day and apparently this thing came from the LEGO Star Wars video game. I barely played any of the games, but you’d think I would. I just couldn’t get into it honestly. I remember there being so many licensed LEGO video games that rather than entice me with a breadth of a selection, it turned me off. It seemed to me it was a quantity over quality situation. I don’t blame Traveller’s Tales or WB Interactive, you find a successful formula, stick to it, and milk the s*** out of it. Anyways, my biased opinion here, but todays’ build gets a thumbs down. This is nearly the equivalent of a weapons rack or bag of webs.
Disney bringing the heat today! Moana’s catamaran was instantly recognizable. And it looks like there’s even space for the previous days’ builds of Moana and Pua to sit on. It does feel like one of those multi day builds that could have been a single day, but if we can separate ships from characters in Star Wars, we should be able to do it here too, right? Thumbs way up!
Eric: Disney Day 7 (and Hot Sauces)
I am doing the LEGO Disney Advent Calendar this year. I am not in the target demographic for this advent calendar, and that is okay. I am also eating a hot wing every day, tossed in one of 24 random hot sauces. Enjoy my pain.
WATCH ME EAT AND BUILD THIS ON TIKTOK
Now we’re talking. CAROLINA REAPER HOT SAUCE – one of the spiciest peppers on earth. The same pepper that put me out of commission two years ago. How does it go this year?
Eh. Spiciest so far for sure. But nothing I can’t handle. I’m pretty disappointed.
The build today is Moana’s boat from the movie Moana (and Moana 2, I’m assuming). It’s a pretty fine build. I like that it’s connected to the dock, and like Ace says, it can fit Moana or Pigana. Not too bad!
LEGO Day 7: 3/5
HOT SAUCE Day 7: 5/5
Nick: Marvel Day 7 (and Rocks and Dice)
Who is zoning this city, with a hydrant and a light post stuck together and seemingly a few inches from the curb? Also, when did they put a the light from a literal one horse town in New York? Or did the Spider Friends move to Burke (population 213)?
This is a creative little build to make the hydrant, but it’s still a miss, because it doesn’t even feel like it belongs with Spidey stuff. A couple flairs and a decoration in the city Advent? Sure. But in Marvel, nah.
I love the general color of this die, but I hate that it has white numbers on it. Yes, it’s under my lights here with quite a bit of glare I couldn’t be chuffed to get rid of, but still, poor contrast. And contrast is all that matters when you’re rolling a bunch of dice.
It’s Soladite, baby! Okay, that joke would work better if this was Dolamite, but at least I can identify this one after a couple of days of mystery. Obviously, these would be our water theme Rock Raiders, because our new line is going to be elemental based. I just decreed it. And we’re going to make it like Avatar. The real Avatar… because we want Airbender Rocks… for reasons.
