  • That Captain Marvel Art Print Is Pretty High Quality

That Captain Marvel Art Print Is Pretty High Quality

Last night my wife was tired of staring at my packages by the door so I went through them. One of them was my LEGO Shop@Home order which consisted of the new Quinjet, the art print, the Tower Promo, and the Skater Chicken pod. It arrived at the same time as my Vader Bust order from Target. It also arrived at the same time as my sample package which contained the Battle of Hoth promo set. I honestly wasn’t expecting that last one at all. That aside, this was the first time in a LONG time that I bought any LEGO. I wasn’t really planning on getting any of it. I think the Vader Bust was an impulse buy for a limited edition exclusive. It kind of brought me back to my old ways of trying to get that hard-to-get acquisition and that dopamine rush of accomplishing that task. The Quinjet though. I only got it because of the art print and wanted to make sure the box was big enough for the print to lay flat. I also plan on reviewing the set to justify the purchase. Soon after I placed my order though, I had feelings of regret. I really don’t need to be bringing in more LEGO into the house when I’m still trying to get rid of my collection.

But that art print man. I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The paper it’s printed on isn’t just your run-of-the-mill flat paper. It’s definitely thicker and textured like water color paper. It softens the image a little bit and doesn’t make it so, so saturated. But don’t get me wrong, it’s still a very bright and colorful print.

Also, they gave credit where credit is due by listing the artists’ names: Andrea Divito and Laura Villari. Kudos to LEGO for doing that because they could easily have not.

This is the first of three and when all three are acquired, they connect to make one large scene. I have no idea what scene that is but since the imagery is inspired by the current selection of Endgame sets, I have doubts whether or not it’s one continuous scene or just three panels that look pretty next to each other. Either way, I’ll be placing two more orders to finish up the set.

The print and Tower promo are still available. You can read up on details on how to get them here but in a nutshell you need to buy at least $35 of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets to get the print, and at least $75 for the Tower promo. Today’s the last day to get the print while there is still stock. I assume that you’ll be able to get the second one starting tomorrow under the same conditions.

Avengers Tower Promo Now Available, Captain Marvel Print Too

Okay, so, while I was browsing the LEGO site, I added the Quinjet to my cart, and not only did the Avengers Tower promo set get added to my cart, this nifty print did as well. The threshold to get the print is much lower, only $35 compared to the $75 needed for the Tower promo set. It’s the first of three prints, that can be combined with the next two to create a connected scene. This promo lasts from now until May 2nd. Chances are a new print will go up every week.

    Kakaw! Kakaw!

I could just point you to the original post for the Avengers Tower LEGO promo for some shopping ideas but what’s the fun in that? To get the freebie, you’ll need to put at least $75 dollars in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets into your cart before it magically appears. Here are some ideas on what to get:

    76126 Avengers Ultimate Quinjet

The safe bet: 76126 Avengers Ultimate Quinjet ($79.99). With this one set, you’ll get the Captain Marvel print, 40334 Avengers Tower,  free shipping, AND VIP Double Points. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

The “Well, if I HAVE to get it, I might as well get it now” nomination: 76131 Avengers Compound Battle ($99.99). For the same reasons as above. It may not seem like a great set, but if you’re gonna get it, might as well get all the bonuses with it.

The “I want to make sure I get a set that comes in a box big enough that so that the shipping department won’t be forced to fold my print” nomination: 76105 The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition ($119.99). ‘Nuff said.

Don’t like any of my ideas? Browse the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes page for some options. Remember, you’ll need to hit at least $35 for the print, and $75 for the Tower (you’ll also get the print at this level too).

If you’re the gambling type, you could wait until Monday when the Spider-Man: Far From Home sets go up for sale. But I doubt these promos will last ’til then.

I wasn’t planning on buying anything but I may not be able to resist that print.

  • Avengers: Infinity War Minifigure Pack GWP Now Available

Avengers: Infinity War Minifigure Pack GWP Now Available

Availability starting today, LEGO Shop@Home is offering a free Avengers: Infinity War minifigure pack. The minifigures are War Machine Mark 4, Wong with book from library, Tony Stark in gray hoodie with nanotech chest piece, and Bucky Barnes with vibranium arm gifted from Wakanda.

I received my sample pack of his earlier this week but was rather confused because I wasn’t aware of any promotion but now it all makes sense. And if this was planned to coincide with Captain Marvel coming out in theaters today/last night, then kudos to you, LEGO Shop@Home.

The 4-pack is FREE with any purchase of LEGO sets of $75 or more. I think now’s a good time to get that Ford Mustang if you haven’t already. Also, speaking of Captain Marvel, there is a single set based on the movie, 76127 Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack, for $29.99. That puts you just over a third of the way there for the $75 threshold for the Avengers: Infinity War minifigure pack.

  • Marvel Wins the Internet Today: Post’s “Retro” Captain Marvel Website.

Marvel Wins the Internet Today: Post’s “Retro” Captain Marvel Website.

So, my (not even a little bit) secret identity by day is that of a web developer that’s specialized in UX and UI stuff. I do architecture work on big web applications and have many, many, years working on web stuff. In truth, I’ve been doing stuff like this about as long as there has been an internet available. I had a “personal” website on my first ISP back in 1995, rocking some 14.4k dialup and a UI layout that would make your eyes vomit today.

That’s why seeing what Marvel did for Captain Marvel, releasing a website for the upcoming Captain Marvel that plays into nearly everything that was glorious and wrong with the 90s web “design.” The only thing that’s really missing from it is a GeoCities logo and browser logos for Netscape Navigator.

I mean… I would have to try really hard to make something so outstandingly ugly at this point, but it gives me a nice walk down memory lane while at the same time so glad we aren’t there anymore.

I cannot wait for this movie to hit theaters in less than a month, on March 8th.

  • The Trailers from the “Big Game”

The Trailers from the “Big Game”

I was bored by the game (which I watched… I am a football fan and wanted to listen to Romo), but there were three trailers that are in the stuff we feature here. Course, the trailer I was excited the most for was the spinoff for Fast & the Furious, but hey, I love those movies. They’re ridiculous, but they also know it and lean into that hard!

This showed up at the end, so a lot may have missed it. No new story elements, any more than there was last time, but we get some fun character moments and I’m all for it.

We also got two Marvel ads for their upcoming movies… Captain Marvel (coming March 8th) and Avengers: Endgame (coming April 26th). There’s nothing new here for the story, but we get to see Rocket hanging out with the Avengers, and Carol using her powers and looking positively Binary (plus an excited Nick Fury).

  • Captain Marvel Trailer 2

    Captain Marvel Trailer 2

There is so much to love here… but instead of dissecting it here, I’m going to just go watch it again. And again. And then pause on that costume of her at the end, with powers on display, and just think how they nailed it so much…

  • First Captain Marvel Trailer

    First Captain Marvel Trailer

I’m not certain that the trauma of Infinity War has passed yet, but the first Captain Marvel trailer has launched… and the de-aging technology is in full, amazing, force. We already saw Marvel use this to great effect in Captain America: Civil War, but here it’s on tap to be used as a feature. There’s a whole lot to unpack in this, including several great looking nods to various Captain Marvel costumes.

Also, she punches an old lady on a bus (who is presumably a Skrull).

  • EW Shows us Captain Marvel’s costume

EW Shows us Captain Marvel’s costume

I’ve made no secret of the fact that Captain Marvel is my favorite superhero (and I’m still annoyed that Vans didn’t make her shoes in my size), so it should go without saying that I’m pretty excited for the upcoming movie. Thus far, Marvel had been kind of cagey about giving us details… the only picture we’d really seen was more based on Mar-vell than Carol as Captain Marvel.

That being said… EW released their cover image and a preview of an upcoming feature that will cover the movie and… yeah, that’s the definition of “nailing it” when it comes to costume design. This is the last stop before we get Avengers 4 next year… and I can’t wait.

Update: Looks like io9 grabbed even more pictures.

  • Captain Marvel starts production, adds some Familiar Faces

Captain Marvel starts production, adds some Familiar Faces

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) is one of my favorite characters of all time. Ms. Marvel, Binary, Warbird, etc…. I’ve read a ton of the stuff around her. So I was excited by the announcement of a movie for her. There aren’t a ton of details around it right now, other than it will take place in the 90s and be focused around her Air Force career.

Of course, being in the 90s opens up a lot of possibilities, and that’s when it comes to the familiar faces. Marvel announced the production yesterday, and the cast list includes Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Coulson, and, surprisingly, Lee Pace as Ronan and Djimon Hounsou as Korath (Ronan’s VCR-brained henchman). So it seems that likely we’re going to get a Kree war of some sort.

Given that the Disney/Fox deal isn’t done yet, and likely won’t be until next year at the earliest… it seems unlikely that it will be the Kree-Skrull war since I’m fairly certain the Skrulls are tied up in the Fantastic 4 rights (that’s why we got the Novas like we did in Guardians). I’d love to see it happen, and there could be a lot of ground for the space/mystic stuff once they do get the rights, but for now, it’ll probably more Kree stuff. That was well established in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and obviously Kree lore is a huge part of Carol’s backstory. But so long as the Shi’ar and Skrulls aren’t in the MCU, we won’t get a lot of it.

Edit: As pointed out in a comment below, turns out that apparently they’ve already said that the Skrulls will factor in, since they were part of the Avengers lore with the Kree-Skrull war. So I guess we know some of the basis of the story.

Sony To Share Spider-Man With The MCU, Everybody Wins?

Probably not as you can’t please everybody, but this news should still make many Marvel fans happy. Right before I went to bed last night I read on Marvel.com that they had reached an agreement with Sony Pictures to share Spider-Man between the two movie franchises. Let’s take a look at what that could mean…
