First Look At LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Packs & New Worlds Trailer

I was away for the weekend and the amount of people that complimented me on my LEGO Stay Puft Marshmallow Man T-shirt was at an all-time high. People love the giant, church-stomping, fluff-splosion of fun that is Mr. Stay Puft. These new fun Packs are going to hot sellers I’ll bet and collectors will be snapping up extras with the specific intent of making little children cry. Monsters.

The trailer above states there will be 14 different worlds based on different properties, so if I’m right we’ve seen a fair amount for:

    • DC Comics
    • The LEGO Movie
    • Lord Of The Rings
    • Doctor Who
    • Back To The Future
    • The Wizard Of Oz
    • Portal

    Very little of:

    • Ghostbusters
    • Ninjago
    • Legends Of Chima
    • Jurassic World
    • The Simpsons
    • Scooby Doo

    And nothing from:

    • Midway Arcade
    ExpansionPack_International_GhostbustersFunPack2_71241_1438670563

With almost two full months left until its September 27th release, I figure we’ll see more trailers with more stuff and things. My anticipation for this game is bubbling over and my family are already crying to have them all, so Ace will need to give me a raise.

  • [SDCC] Locations Of The LEGO Dimensions Statues

[SDCC] Locations Of The LEGO Dimensions Statues

Feel like going on a scavenger hunt to look for the LEGO Dimensions statues to enter the sweeps? The locations of each of the statues is posted in the above picture, but in case you don’t want to look at it, here they are in text form:

    Inside the main exhibit hall:

    • LEGO booth #2829: Kai
    • DC Comics booth #1915: Batman
    • Titan Entertainment booth #5537: Twelfth Doctor
    • WBTV booth #4545: Wyldstyle
    • GameRadar+ booth #241: Homer

The first three on the above list are relatively close to each other. The GamesRadar+ booth was a little difficult to find since GamesRadar+ isn’t listed as an exhibitor. Instead, they are listed as Future and is at the north end of the exhibit hall. The WB booth is at the opposite end on the south end of the hall.

    Outside the convention center:

    • Hard Rock Hotel lobby: Marty McFly
    • Hard Rock Hotel upstairs outside the Legends Ballroom: Gandalf
    • Hard Rock Hotel upstairs inside the Legends Ballroom: Scooby-Doo
    • Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel inside the Microsoft Xbox Lounge: Chell

The good news is that first three are thankfully all at one location, at the Hard Rock Hotel. Marty McFly is easy to get since you can get him at any time in the lobby. The bad news is that the other two are difficult to get. Gandalf and Scooby-Doo are only accessible once you are granted admission to the LEGO Dimensions demo. You will need to wait in the line outside on the sidewalk next to the SyFy cafe and the demo session goes from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Bring sunscreen.

Chell at the Xbox Lounge is easy to get, just a bit of a walk from the convention hall to the Manchester Grand Hyatt straight up Harbor Drive. You’ll need your badge to access the lounge.

You’ll need to tweet all nine photos of the statues with the hashtag #LEGODimensionsSweeps for the entry. It wasn’t clear if you had to post all nine individual photos or if you had to make a composite photo of all nine and submit the composite photo as your entry. If I can somehow get a clear answer I’ll update this post.

  • [SDCC] LEGO Panels and Events for Comic Con Friday

[SDCC] LEGO Panels and Events for Comic Con Friday

Today is Friday, unofficially known as Marvel day. And today is the day you can try your luck in getting the two Marvel-based exclusives: the Throne of Ultron set, pictured above, and the new Captain America minifigure whom I like to call Captain Falcon. I mean, it just makes sense, right?. It’s a pretty light day otherwise for LEGO-related panels and events. There’s also the LEGO Dimensions experience at the Hard Rock which I highly suggest you go and check out. Once you play through the demo, you can get this print:

7:00am LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Throne of Ultron Ticket Distribution
    Upstairs in the Sails Pavilion
As far as I know, this is still a random ticket draw kind of thing and not really a first come first serve kind of thing. One draw per person per day while supplies last. Once you get a winning ticket you’ll be able to purchase the set at the LEGO booth located downstairs at #2829 after 12:30pm.

    11:00am LEGO Ninjago Product Reveal
    LEGO Booth #2829
I erroneously reported that Ninjago was yesterday. Yesterday was the BvS Batmobile. Today is going to be the Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu set.

12:30pm Minifig Giveaway – Captain Falcon
    Upstairs behind the Sails Pavilion.
As far as I know, they will employ the same method they used last year involving iPads and badge scanning. One try per person per day while supplies last. The line started early, around 12:00noon and lasted until a little before 3pm and they ran out.

    LEGO Video Game Demo
    LEGO Booth #2829
    I wasn’t there for yesterday’s demo but I think it’s LEGO Marvel’s Avengers.

    3:00pm to 7:00pm LEGO Dimensions Hands-On Demo
Legends Ballroom 2, Hard Rock Hotel
Come try out the Doctor Who level in LEGO Dimensions and get a free art print featuring Doctor Who and Portal characters. Pre-order from the GameStop Kiosk to get a free t-shirt. There will also be an autograph signing with Nathan Sawaya, brick artist, from 4:00 – 5:00pm.

  • [SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Doctor Who Level Is AMAZING

[SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Doctor Who Level Is AMAZING

I went to the LEGO Dimensions hands-on experience over at the Hard Rock Hotel today. Today would be the first time that the game would be playable by the public. There were only a handful of playable levels though none of the levels were complete; they were just complete enough to give you a taste of what you can expect. And the little morsel of Doctor Who we were able to try out just blew my mind.

At the end of the recently released trailer, you can see a gallery of the different Doctors that are in the game answering one of the questions I kept hearing when Doctor Who was announced: which doctor would get the lead role. WBIE answered with “all of them”. That’s right, you can select which doctor you want to play as right off the bat. Alternatively, if you play as, say, the third Doctor and lose all your hearts, when you regenerate you come back as the fourth doctor. Each doctor has it’s own look and feel and animations.

But wait, there’s more! The Tardis acts like any other vehicle on the outside. You can get in and pilot it around as you would any other hovering, blue, police call box. But once inside, this is where the magic happens. This is where you can select your Doctor character. Not only that but you can select the music you listen to based on iconic songs from the series. AND, once you exit and re-enter the Tardis, the interior decor will change to match the Doctor character you are playing. For instance, if you select the very first Doctor, the interior of the Tardis will be rendered in black and white. Check out the footage below:

WBIE put in a lot of effort and care into making the Doctor Who level as complete as can be; at least that’s how the demo felt and the demo level wasn’t even very long. The character selection, music options, and Tardis functionality feels like complete fan service but it’s done so well that you’ll wish everything in life could offer as much options and be as cleverly put together. I was really impressed with Doctor Who.

I managed to snap off the following pictures of the Doctor Who minifig you get with the level pack, as well as the Tardis:

    IMG_6473 IMG_6470

I’ll have more footage of the Doctor Who level as well as the other levels either tomorrow or the next day.

  • [SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Doctor Who Trailer

[SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Doctor Who Trailer

LEGO has spared no expense to cram all the geekery they could into Dimensions. This SDCC trailer highlights the Doctor Who level pack and has the current incarnation of the Doctor, Peter Capaldi lending his aged, punk rock voice to the character. Fighting Cybermen and Daleks while teaming up with Batman and Scooby Doo, or racing time machines with Marty McFly? Yeah, it’s safe to say I’m all in. Huge added bonus, play as every Doctor ever.

Entertainment Weekly also reported that Jenna Coleman and Michelle Gomez will also reprise their roles as Clara Oswald and Missy, respectively. I can’t wait to see what Missy could with an army of flying monkeys and turrets…

Now that Preview Night is behind us, it’s time to focus on the future… the future known as today! Today being Thursday July 9th, there are a couple of LEGO related items you should be aware of:

7:00am LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Action Comics #1 Superman Ticket Distribution

One draw per person per day while supplies last. Once you get a winning ticket you’ll be able to purchase the set at the LEGO booth located downstairs at #2829.

    12:30pm Minifig Giveaway – Arsenal
Upstairs behind the Sails Pavilion. As far as I know, they will employ the same method they used last year involving iPads and badge scanning. One try per person per day while supplies last.

    3:00pm to 7:00pm LEGO Dimensions Hands-On Demo
Legends Ballroom 1 & 2, Hard Rock Hotel
Come try out the Doctor Who level in LEGO Dimensions and get a free art print featuring Doctor Who and Portal characters. Pre-order from the GameStop Kiosk to get a free t-shirt. There will also be an autograph signing with Bob Gale, Co-Writer, Back to the Future from 4:00 – 5:00pm.

6:00pm – 7:00pm DC Comics Meets LEGO Art
    Room 25ABC
Creativity reaches superheroic heights as brick artist Nathan Sawaya reveals the new The Art of the Brick: DC Comics exhibition. Renowned comic book artist and co-publisher of DC Entertainment Jim Lee will draw live the concept for a brand new Batmobile that will be included in the exhibition. Joining in the discussion are production team members Brandon Griffith and Tommy Williamson. Q&A moderated by TV host Victor Lucas (Electric Playground). There will be giveaways at this panel.

Also happening today is the reveal of the new LEGO Ninjago set, 70751 Temple of Airjitzu. I’m not sure what time, maybe 11:00am? Once revealed it will be on display all day but that frosted glass makes it difficult see.

There are 7 more to find scattered throughout the convention. I’d be willing to bet there will be a few at the LEGO and Warner Bros booths. We’ll post here the locations as we find them.

  • [SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Sculpture

    [SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Sculpture

This sculpture sits outside the Hard Rock Hotel where the LEGO Dimensions hands-on demo is being held. And in case you’re wondering if LEGO’s quality control is going down it should be noted that it is not made out of LEGO, just made to look like giant LEGO parts. A quick glance, it’s passable, but those arms though.

  • [SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Hands-On Demo at Comic Con

[SDCC] LEGO Dimensions Hands-On Demo at Comic Con

If you’re going to be in the downtown San Diego area this week, and if you’re going to Comic Con there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be, WBIE will have playable demos of LEGO Dimensions starting Thursday through Saturday from 3pm to 7pm and Sunday from 10am to 2pm at the Hard Rock Hotel located just across the street from the convention center on the corner of 5th and L street at 207 5th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101. This is the first time the public will be able to try LEGO Dimensions. This is also the first time they are showing off the Doctor Who level. You don’t need a convention badge to try the demo but you’d be hardpressed trying to find parking in the area. The demo will be held upstairs th Legends Ballrooms 1 and 2. Free swag (art print featuring Doctor Who and Portal) for trying it out and even more free swag (t-shirt) if you pre-order from the GameStop kiosk while you’re there. Free swag is limited while supplies last.

  • [E3] LEGO Dimensions: Just Another LEGO Video Game But With A Twist

[E3] LEGO Dimensions: Just Another LEGO Video Game But With A Twist

My big question before checking out Dimensions at E3 was whether or not there’s room in my “fun budget” for another plastic addiction. I have a sizable LEGO parts collection taking up one room in my house, a Nerf collection occupying a closet in my bedroom, and two different toys-to-life collections growing on my family’s entertainment center.

My boys are just young enough to have missed out on the initial Skylanders craze, and early this year we started introducing them to console video games using Disney Infinity and Nintendo’s amiibo almost simultaneously. I was personally attracted to the idea of amiibo as a lifelong Nintendo diehard, but I also found the style of the Infinity figures appealing. My family picked up the Avengers playset on deep discount during Black Friday last Thanksgiving, and we cracked it open for one of the boys’ birthdays. We quickly found ourselves with all six of the MCU headlining Avengers figures, and I’m mulling over whether to add Falcon, Loki, and Nick Fury to the team. On the flip-side, I tentatively stepped into the amiibo craze with a purchase of a couple of figures timed to the release of the latest Super Smash Bros game, and even with a firm standing rule to never pay retail price for anything, I now find myself with 13 figures in hand and checking ebay, Amazon, and other online venues daily for hints of ways to get ahold of my other favorite fighters.

All this is to say that my family and I are by no means Infinity or amiibo completists, but we’ve spent a good chunk of fun money on “toys-to-life.” LEGO Dimensions had an uphill battle if it wanted a piece of the action.
