Toy Fair 2019: Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar

These were revealed yesterday ahead of Toy Fair, but Ace got a chance to get up close and take a look at them.

Ace here taking over editing of this post. Despite the press release coming out yesterday, I was hoping these sets were at the Fair for me to get up close and personal. Overall, I’m digging the sets. Some observations: the dinos look fantastic, even the smaller dilophosaur was pretty neat. The Baryonyx’s teeth were pretty impressive, as well as that jeep build. And the dino-mech in the big set is going to pretty popular. I mean, you have a minifig piloting a dino mech. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. These aren’t juniorized sets by any means.

Official LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar Press Release

UNIVERSAL BRAND DEVELOPMENT AND THE LEGO GROUP CREATE NEW JURASSIC WORLD ADVENTURES WITH “LEGO® JURASSIC WORLD: LEGEND OF ISLA NUBLAR”

-Expanded partnership features four new building sets revealed for the first time at New York Toy Fair, based on an original, animated mini-series coming later this year-

NEW YORK, AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL TOY FAIR (February 15, 2019) – Universal Brand Development (Universal) and the LEGO Group today announced an exciting expansion to the popular LEGO® Jurassic World portfolio of toys and content: a new building sets assortment inspired by an all-new, animated mini-series – LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar. Following the adventures of Claire, Owen and fan-favorite dinosaurs seen in the 2018 animated specials, LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit, this new mini-series runs 13 episodes and will debut later this year.

Set in 2012, three years before the events of the Jurassic World movie, LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar picks up where the story left off from LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit. Newly hired animal behaviorist Owen Grady and Assistant Manager of Park Operations Claire Dearing team up on Isla Nublar to deal with everything the Jurassic World park throws their way. And “everything” includes runaway dinosaurs, ongoing construction to expand the park, tourists everywhere, unpredictable tropical weather, and an impulsive boss! Plus, a mysterious saboteur with surprising ties to the park’s past is on a quest to find a legendary treasure and destroy Jurassic World forever! What could possibly go wrong? Everything.

“The box office and retail success of 2018 proved Jurassic World is the definitive dinosaur brand,” said Vince Klaseus, president of Universal Brand Development. “This year we’re focused on continuing to expand the Jurassic World story through always-on content and new experiences for fans of all ages. Our partnership with the LEGO Group allows us to do just that and more.”

Building on the success of the 2018 LEGO Jurassic World offering, the LEGO Group will globally launch four building sets that take the storytelling and role play opportunity beyond the blockbuster film year, giving fans the chance to bring new adventures, characters and dinosaurs home for even more play. The sets will hit shelves this fall, and are displayed in the LEGO booth #1335 in Hall 3B of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from February 16-19.

“Jurassic World is one of those properties that just works so well in LEGO form,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing & entertainment for LEGO Group. “The theme and stories appeal to kids and adults at the same time, and with this content, we offer a fun and unique twist by adding LEGO creativity and humor to an evergreen property. We’re thrilled to expand our successful partnership with Universal to introduce more original LEGO Jurassic World stories that will inspire imaginations and continued play.”

Revealed for the first time today, four building sets based on LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar include:

75934 – Dilophosaurus on the Loose

  • New Minifigure Packs Revealed

    New Minifigure Packs Revealed

So apparently these are supposed to be released at Toys R Us, according to numerous Lego news websites. I can’t prove that, as when I go to toysrus.com I only get an apology from a giraffe.

Anyway, there are four packs: Harry Potter, Jurassic Park/World, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ninjago.

    Harry Potter Pack

Madame Hooch, Professor Slughorn, Professor Umbridge, and Boggart-Snape. Not a bad haul for these minor characters.

    Jurassic Park / World Pack

Claire Dearing, Owen Grady, Jeff Goldblum, and a tiny dinosaur.

    Avengers: Infinity War Pack

Don Cheadle, Wong, Tony Stark, and Bucky Barnes.

    Ninjago Pack

And four Ninjago characters. I have no idea who these people are. I like the printed fan, though.

It’s a smart idea, and I definitely remember Lego doing packs like this before, though not necessarily for licensed themes. Moreso re-releases of Collectable Minifigures.

According to promobricks.de, these sets will only be available for a few day at a time – about a six day period each. They’re 14,99 euro, so I’m guessing they’ll be around $19.99 if you can manage to find them in America. Based on what Lego is saying on Twitter, the Harry Potter pack will be available at Barnes & Noble, so there’s a chance.

UCS Snowspeeder 20% off at Walmart, along with more Star Wars, Super Heroes, Jurassic World

Update 7/3: There’s a ton of LEGO Star Wars sets on sale. And by ton I mean most of them. And instead of linking every set here, I’m going to dial it in and put a generic link for LEGO Star Wars on sale at Walmart. There are a lot on sale that arent’ tagged as a “Rollback”, so browse the list. No doubt they are clearing the way for the fall assortments.

In our post about the Spider-man ATM Heist being on sale, reader Chris Wight pointed out that there’s even more on sales going on right now… not the least of which is the UCS Snowspeeder sporting a healthy 20% discount. As of right now, Amazon hasn’t matched some of these, but have some sets of their own discounted as well. A bunch of Star Wars sets are in the mix, as well as as a few Super Heroes sets (like the ludicrously overpriced Red Hulk set).

  • Some Neat Polybags I Picked Up At LEGOLAND California

Some Neat Polybags I Picked Up At LEGOLAND California

I have a LEGO problem. It’s well documented. I also have a polybag problem. I don’t know what it is about polybags that makes me compelled to buy them and in multiples. It could be the miniature nature of the model, the crinkling of the plastic bag between your fingers, the peeking at the parts through the small slit in the back, or maybe the satisfying sound it makes as it lands after you throw it. I don’t know but it’s all good.

And there’s no more dangerous place for someone with a polybag addiction than a LEGOLAND because you can usually find hard to find ones there. I’m probably going to have a bunch of people either comment or email me saying that this and that is old and/or available at Target. But I don’t care ’cause it’s still all new to me.

    30379 Quake Mech

I know for a fact that this one was indeed available for some time since Ryan bought one for me way back in January. I still bought another one anyway because I have no self control.

    30404 Friendship Flower

This is a cute little flower that honestly, even for a guy like me, wouldn’t mind having at his desk. Plus it’s one of the greatest value polybags out there: 100 pieces for just five bucks.

    30406 Unikitty Roller Coaster Wagon

Despite the name, there is no roller coaster car like the name implies. It’s a brick built car and that slot in the front to simulate the connection is just a 2×2 round tile shooter.

    30526 The Mini Ultimate Batmobile

This was a complete surprise as I honestly had no idea this existed. It looks like you can rebuild the set into three different models using the same pieces: Batmobile, Batwing, and Bat-tank.

It also has a great part count at 84 pieces for just five bucks.

    30382 Baby Velociraptor Playpen

A cheap way to get the baby raptor. Get a bunch of these and a small girl minifig and you can recreate the girl being attacked by a bunch of Compys from the beginning of The Lost World.

    30381 Imperial TIE Fighter

    Meh.

Toy Fair Coverage 2018: All Of The Videos

So, something happened with my Kessel Run Millennium Falcon video. It showed the fully fleshed out interior and more importantly, spoiler alert, the front escape pod that sits between the two mandibles. It slides out and has a small cockpit and thrusters in the back. And in case you were wondering, they only had the ship there, not even the minifigs that came with it. Ah well.

But the good news is I have some other videos of some of the new sets below. Take a look:

  • Toy Fair Coverage 2018: Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom (More Sets)

Toy Fair Coverage 2018: Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom (More Sets)

Some more detail shots of the Jurassic World sets. Unfortunately, 75927 Stygimoloch Breakout looks a lot like a reskin of the fence-playset from the original Jurassic World run, which wasn’t exactly thrilling.

Next up, we get the obligatory not-quite-a-t-rex set, 75929 Carnotaurus Gyrosphere Escape. Basically, this set is what we see through most of the trailer. Still, $79.99 seems like an unusually good price point for everything that looks to be pictured here.

Last up, helicopter, etc. Surprisingly economical at the price point.
