  • Another LEGO Batman Movie Building Event

Another LEGO Batman Movie Building Event

And we are graced with yet another LEGO Batman Movie building event. This time it’s at Toys’R’Us stores and this time you actually get to build something and take it home with you. I don’t know what happened at your Walmart stores last Saturday, but at mine they built 70903 The Riddler Riddle Racer and one other Batman Movie set that I don’t remember because I didn’t stick around long enough to find out. They did give away a polybag though so that was at least something. But enough about the big W, this event is at all Toys’R’Us stores and you get to build Emmet’s Bat-car and take it home with you. There is also a scavenger hunt going on in-store and a free movie ticket promotion to go see The LEGO Batman Movie with a purchase of $40 or more.

The event is this Saturday February 11th from 1-3pm or while supplies last. Visit the Toys’R’Us events page to find a participating store near you.

The LEGO Batman Movie Building Event At Select Walmart Locations

This Saturday February 4th from 11:30am until 4:30pm local time, select Walmart stores around the nation will be hosting a The LEGO Batman Movie building event. The event is intended for children ages 6 and up with a free gift available while supplies last. The event facebook page has a list of all the stores that will be participating in the event. I took that list and organized it alphabetically by state and then by city to make searching easier. In the cases where there are multiple cities of the same name, like Las Vegas, NV, it would be advisable to call the store to verify the event is happening there. Full list of locations after the click.

Star Wars Days Category Winners and MOC Pictures

Another successful Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND California happened last weekend. And if there’s one thing I know, it’s that I am terrible at event coverage. Better late than never right? So I’m going to break tradition and actually do some coverage. I’m here to show you guys what the category winners were.

Pictured above is the Evolved Starfighter category winner, A/SF-03 B-Wing Mk III. The contest may be over but we had a nice fly-in of evolved starfighters and this particular beauty was the belle of the ball.

Next up is the winner for Episode VII Vignettes, Kylo Ren Throws A Tantrum. I should have taken video because the lights blinked and it was a cool effect to see.

For our humorous theme, Skywalker Family Reunion, we have Ben and Bacca by Calista Vassios. There’s a bit of fan theory going on about how Han and Chewie raised Ben on the Millennium Falcon before he was sent away to Jedi Camp and how Chewbacca was basically Ben’s ward and nanny, that he raised him from a baby and how emotionally difficult it was for Chewie to witness Han’s death and shoot Ben. The Ben and Bacca MOC depicts four scenes from those early years aboard the Falcon.

Next up is the Themed Speeder Bikes category. And the honor of being declared the favorite goes to, once again, Chris Wight for Saruman vs Galadriel. This should no way influence your vote for our current polls.

For the catch-all General category, we have Vintage Hoth Travel Poster by Jason Sutherland. This piece may appear to be simple but the details are in its execution. The lettering is all legit LEGO pieces and connections but is so well done that it could rival any professional font used in graphic design.

And finally, we come to Best In Show. It should be no surprise that it is Maz Kanata’s Castle by Mary Applegate and Max Philippe. This thing is HUGE and made a trek all the way from Puerto Rico to Carlsbad.

Photo credit for the Ben and Bacca overhead shot goes to Chris Wight. He posted some pictures on his flickr account showing almost everything that was brought in for the weekend. I should start promoting hash tags or something so more pictures could be found. Ah well, there’s always next year.

    Thanks for looking!

  • Can’t Get In To Toy Fair? Go To Play Fair Instead!

Can’t Get In To Toy Fair? Go To Play Fair Instead!

Toy Fair New York has always been an industry-only event, meaning you need to be either a wholesaler, manufacturer, buyer, seller, etc.; basically be involved in the toy industry in some way and not some Joe Shmoe off the street. Well this year all the Joe Shmoes off the street can attend an event called Play Fair. It’s a companion event held this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York, right next door to the regular Toy Fair show. The show is presented by LEGO and Nickelodean so there’s a very good chance there will be a a play area for the kids to build as well as a display showing off some current and possibly new products. Here’s what the About page says about the event:

Play Fair presented by LEGO and Nickelodeon is a celebration of play and entertainment for all ages. It’s an immersive, experience-rich event for children, parents, families, and teenage and adult collectors. With hands-on exhibits, awe-inspiring displays, dozens of toy and entertainment brands, and never-before-seen exclusives, attendees can feel, touch, and take home their favorite toys and games — and be the first to glimpse the toys of tomorrow.

There will be a shop where you can buy things and there are exclusives to be had. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your view on the matter, there is no LEGO exclusive listed on the website but it may be just a matter of time before there will be one. Luckily, my press pass gives me access to the event. If you’re interested in attending, you can buy tickets at the door. Ticket information, sesssion times, and everything else you need to know about Play Fair can be found on the Play Fair website.
