This post has most of the information you’ll need for participating in this year’s Star Wars Days 2016 at LEGOLAND California. If you plan on participating in the fan gallery, please read the post carefully. If you plan on just attending the park as a guest and take part in the festivities, no need to read further.
Dates and Times
The dates for this year’s show is a little later in the year: June 4th and 5th. Weather should be nice and hot so bring sunscreen as we will once again be located on the Model Shop rooftop. There is a canopy but it provides little protection and there is little chance that any pop up tents will be provided. Because it’s later in the year, the park hours are longer. On Saturday June 4th, the hours are 9am to 7pm and on Sunday June 5th they will be from 9am to 6pm. Participants in the fan gallery can show up as early as 7am for set up. If you need additional time for set up, please contact me separately after you register.
I am still working on hotel discounts for the surrounding hotels and will email the details to registered participants once I work something out.
We are changing the format for participation this year. In years past, we had two separate groups: volunteers and builders. For this year’s Star Wars Days, we will no longer have the volunteer group. In order to participate, you must bring a model to display and we simply ask that builders man the tables when they can. Builders will get the full set of perks which include:
– A semi-exclusive minifig
– Continental breakfast and lunch for both days.
– A modest shopping discount
These are themes you should be building towards:
– The Force Awakens Vignettes
– Evolved Starfighters
– Themed Speeder Bikes
– Skywalker Family Reunion
With Episode VII coming out on Blu-ray (April 5th for Blu-ray, April 1 for digital), there’s a slight emphasis on Episode VII material with the vignettes and Evolved Starfighters categories. The Themed Speeder Bikes is new and will tie into our upcoming MOC Madness Building Tournament which will be announced soon. The Skywalker Family Reunion is your chance to build a funny or heartwarming (or disheartening scene) that never happened in the movies. Almost anything goes in this category as long as it involves two or more members of the Skywalker family. And of course, if you have a Star Wars MOC that doesn’t fit into our pre-definied categories, the general category is for you.
We will once again have ballots for builders to vote on their favorites in each category as well as pick a best-in-show. Winners will receive gift cards good for the Big Shop and possibly some additional LEGO sets thrown in to the prize pool.
Registration opens now. (Registration closed as of 5/19) Once you’ve registered yourself, you’ll need to register your MOC(s).
There is limited space on the rooftop and we may have to cap registrations at some point. I haven’t figured out when we need to close registrations but we will make sure that there is plenty of notice before we close it. Questions? Leave a comment, use the contact form, or email/text me directly.
Thanks for reading and we hope to see you there!
