Bricks LA Is A Month Away!

Can you believe Bricks LA 2016 is a little over a month away? I can hardly believe it. In case you don’t know, Bricks LA is the premier brick convention in Southern California! The event is happening January 8-10, 2016 at the Pasadena Convention Center located at 300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91101. We are in the full swing of planning and getting everything ready for the big show. VIB Registration is still open and is only $55. As a VIB, you get full access to all of our events and have the opportunity to display your MOCs for the public exhibition. Still not convinced? We have a full two days worth of building activities planned. But wait, there’s more! Our swag bag is awesome. It’s chock full of goodies and every VIB gets a Bricks LA 2016 t-shirt as part of their swag. Still not convinced? You can come check out the show as part of the public. Our public hours are January 9 and 10 from 10am – 5pm on both days, Admission is just $5 and kids 5 and under are free! There is going to be tons of new models to be seen, vendors to shop from, and a kids’ play area for the little ones.

  • DesignerCon Tomorrow!

    DesignerCon Tomorrow!

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow November 21st and Sunday November 22nd, Designer Con is happening at the Pasadena Convention Center. Tickets are oh so reasonably priced at $5 presale and $7 at the door. It is the best value in town for your buck.

And if you guys wanna come watch a bunch of LEGO nerds try and put together a LEGO amusement park as fast as possible, we’ll be doing a speed build of 10247 Ferris Wheel and 10244 Fairground Mixer on Saturday around 3:00pm over at the BrickStuds booth.

Also at the BrickStuds booth will be one of the largest displays of Comic Bricks, a collection of comic book covers recreated in with LEGO. Check out the Comic Bricks flickr group for an idea of what will be on display.

I hope to see you there so come on by and say hi.

  • DesignerCon Is Happening Next Weekend

    DesignerCon Is Happening Next Weekend

Happening in just one week is DesignerCon! DCon will be held once again at the Pasadena Convention Center on November 21st and 22nd and putting together some of the best urban, underground, and pop independent artists in one room. There will be over 300 vendors, artists, and designers along with shows, demos, and other activities. FBTB will be there along with Brickstuds and BrickNerd featuring a large gallery of original MOCs. Comic Bricks will once again be showing this year taking some popular comic book covers and turning them into real-life LEGO models. On Saturday afternoon, the BrickStuds booth will also be doing a speed build of 10247 Ferris Wheel and as a bonus add-on event, we’ll also be speed-building 10244 Fairground Mixer.

Entrance fee is one of the best values in town: just $5 pre-sale or $7 at the door. Honestly, it is one of my favorite shows to go to. If you have any interest in urban art, this is the show to go to. Bring the kids along and enjoy one of the last few warm days out of the house before El Niño hits.

All the information you need to go to the show can be found at the DesignerCon website. I hope to see you there!

Registration for the Los Angeles area-based premiere AFOL convention, Bricks LA, is now open. Bricks LA is a two-day event happening held at the Pasadena Convention Center in sunny southern California on January 9th and 10th. We also have limited hours on Friday January 8th for early set-up for VIB’s and vendors who need more time. We’ve expanded our space and now have the entire first floor and two activity rooms.

VIB’s (Very Important Builders): the registration fee is $55 and includes access to all of the VIB events (games, activities, giveaways, etc), access to our Saturday night after hours party, custom brick badges, a pretty sweet swag bag, participation in the public exhibition and theme contests, and more! • Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA – The Update

Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA – The Update

I can’t believe we’re already coming up on Star Wars Weekend. Where does the time go…. oh yeah, my three kids. There are a couple of things that I need to go over before the weekend.

In case you haven’t noticed, registration is closed for the weekend and assuming everyone who signed up shows up, this might be our biggest year ever! The spreadsheet is locked, but there are a number of you who have put question marks or “TBD” for your MOC title. We will be printing out tent cards to display next to your MOC. We will also be asking people to use the names on the tent cards for voting purposes. So, if you’re one of those people who haven’t put a title in, please email me with your name and title so I can update the spreadsheet. You have until Tuesday at midnight to get this done.

I just sent out an email to everyone who registered successfully for this weekend. Everyone should have gotten an email from me, and if you didn’t get the email marked “The Email” or “The Parking Pass”, then message me and we’ll figure out what happened. I’ve also contacted a few people separately who volunteered but were waitlisted. Unfortunately, there are no more available slots and it’s doubtful that anyone will be backing out at this point. So, everyone, please check your email.

The picture above is the t-shirt that the volunteer crew will be getting. There is only one thing left to reveal and LEGOLAND is being pretty tight-lipped about it but it’s something that everyone should be getting in their goody bag.

And lastly, The LEGO Group has generously donated a copy of 75060 Slave I as a prize. That will go to the winner of Best In Show – Fan’s Choice, a new category made up just for this prize.

I think that’s it for now but I am most likely forgetting something. Can’t wait to see you all there this weekend.

  • FBTB @ Toy Fair 2015

    FBTB @ Toy Fair 2015

It’s that time of year again! The time of year when toy industry professionals leave their loved ones alone on Valentine’s Day to spend it rubbing elbows with other like-minded people. The International Toy Fair is happening this weekend and FBTB will be there to bring you as much coverage as humanly possible. We’ll be focusing on licensed themes first and foremost and then move onto original themes, time permitting of course. If all goes well, coverage begins this Saturday at 7:00am Pacific Time.
