With the snows of winter on the horizon (for some of us), Avanaut has returned to Hoth once again. He should feel right at home there as he’s been posting dynamite shots highlighting his unique style and particle effects expertise for two years this month. I’m not sure if a snowspeeder would have the necessary armour to knee-cap an AT-ST, but I’d like to think that if an Ewok can take one down anyone can.

Announcing The 1st Annual FBTB Awards
Ever since I took over the site way back in 2002, I’ve always had an inkling to do an annual awards feature to celebrate the special achievements that LEGO has produced for the Star Wars theme but never had the energy to do it. Now that we’re in the 11th year of the license with no signs of it slowing down, coupled with more licenses under LEGO’s figurative belt and even more on the horizon, it may be long overdue but it’s finally time to get the show underway.

Cold Storage
This awesome little MOC by Flickr user Walter Boy makes the most of it’s small footprint to tell a story. Any second now I expect a fleeting glimpse of a wampa as it rushes Luke. Unless George Lucas gets his way, then we’ll be treated to a 10 minute song and dance routine featuring a CG wampa singing “I lost my arm, but I gained a friend”…but I digress

Swoosh!
This is a cool MOC, and it’s a cool photo. But would it surprise you to learn that it’s all done in-camera? View this pic in Flickr and scroll down to see the setup, it’s quite clever. Peter Reid (Legoloverman) doesn’t often stray into Star Wars territory, but when he does it’s something special. This speeder bike is no exception.

Making Dark Films Fun: A LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 Interview
The website Digital Spy has done a great little interview with Athur Parsons, the director of the upcoming LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 game. He talks about refreshing the gameplay, expanding the already large hub world, translating the dark tone of the final films into a fun filled adventure and why he thinks the LEGO brand games are such a success. For me the most interesting bit involved talk of side scrolling 2-D gameplay, but you’ll have to read it yourself to find out what that’s about. There’s less than a month until the game releases on November 15th and with the rumours of multiple LEGO games coming in the future right up until 2016, it sounds like TT Games is really trying to step it up.

[CAN] Toys R Us Bricktober Week 4 Giveaways
The second to last week of Bricktober is here and if you’ve visited the site or seen this post in the forums it may have seemed like this year’s Bricktober is a bit lackluster to say the least. Luckily Toys R Us Canada doesn’t seem to have their act together and if you frequent the website that should come as no surprise. I could make some point about knowing the future changing the outcome of events, but I won’t because I just did. This weeks deals are better than previously advertized with all Star Wars & both SpongeBob Squarepants sets at a 20% discount which also applies to the Creator & Hero Factory themes. This is a great way to pick up the 10216 Winter Bakery set at $60 or the 10214 Tower Bridge for $240. Spend the usual $35 and you’ll walk away with MY personal favourite of this year’s magnet assortment, the astronaut.
In preparation for Halloween this Saturday between 12pm & 2pm they’ll be hosting the latest seasonal build event, so bring the kiddies and let them build themselves a creepy crawly spider*, but get there early as they’re limited to 100 per store. I attended last years event and my son really loved the jack ‘o’ lantern and I’m hoping he’ll be equally impressed with this years offering.
* Spider not actually creepy or crawly.

Review: 8486 Mack’s Team Truck
Simply put, 8486 Mack’s Team Truck is a great set. I can’t find a lot of fault to it, and it’s pretty much everything you’d expect from a Team McQueen set.

[UK] Argos 3 for 2 on all Toys (ends Monday)
Argos are doing another 3 for 2 deal on ALL toys at the moment (ends 24th October). They also have some discounts on some sets, such as 7965 Millennium Falcon, which has £20 off the rrp. So, it’s a great chance to get the sets you want for a reduced price and even better if you can club together with some mates if you all want the same set.

Review: 8206 Tokyo Pit Stop
It’s a little unfortunate that the LEGO Cars theme is centered around the second movie. I personally would have enjoyed location based sets around Radiator Springs to build my own little town. But despite that, there are some expectations on how the second movie would translate to LEGO sets. I mean, you’d have to have a set with Luigi and Guido, right? And 8206 Tokyo Pit Stop does not disappoint.
