Pundits said that while combining three Ionic Blast engines with four plasmoid turbochargers would theoretically give the best power to weight ratio but that the fractional ducting requirements alone would drive any engineer insane before the design could be finished.

Lan Karath proved them wrong by designing the ICO 4000 racer and then going insane.



Hopefully I managed all the flicker requirements OK.

Man, my pod doesn't even compare to some of these entries. Not to mention the fact that I seem to live in a dimly lit cave, so I can't get a decent picture. I worked my butt off on this thing, and I can't even properly showcase it. Oh well, it was a fun time building it, so it's all good.

My entry...

In a remote area on Tattoine far from Mos Eisley, they've taken pod racing to a new level. No longer just a small course lap event, they hold an annual cross continent endurance race. Various stations are set throughout the vast deserts for recharging their fuel cells as needed. The competitors will sleep overnight in their pods, often attacked by wild animals or even other racers. Because of the style of the race, pods have evolved accordingly. You have the racers who opt for small super energy efficient pods who can bypass a few recharge stations in a hope to gain time at the risk of the high winds and you have the juggernauts who can brave the storms and carry extra fuel cells on board.

In this environment was born the Desert Nomad. Built to survive the elements, the Desert Nomad has a fully covered cockpit, two large proteen nutrient tanks with enough fluid to sustain a pilot for a month without him getting out of the seat, 2 Ultra Capture Solar panels with automated positioning for best energy generation. It has redundant sensors located at the tip of the engines for long range scanning to best plot the routes, as well as 2 Nova Elite Lights to allow running in the darkest nights. The masterpiece of the design, which has made the Desert Nomad the ruler of the Great Race is the twin folding sails which can be deployed to allow the craft to swiftly cover distance, while using minimal power to hover the craft. This allows the Desert Nomad to keep moving while recharging and avoid the refuel stations others depend on.




The metal tripods are obviously stands and not part of the pod.

Well, this is my entry. The pod has a "Chop Shop" theme (meaning a place that uses stolen car parts to build other things / sell). Hence it is made from tires, a stolen dirt bike, and driven by the feared Montyhugh, wearing only his holster, sleeve-less shirt, and pants (thank heavens). I encourage you to go through the gallery, as it has some functions to it that are not so obvious (it has a working gear system in one engine). Not bad for a few days work, figures I'd leave it with exactly one hour left to enter.

It seems Anakin can't get racing out of his blood, much to the annoyance of Palpatine.

Grouped in 11s/12s, semi-randomly (alphabetically by builder name for the most part)... you get three votes per set, and the top 6 from each poll go onto the final round!

You'll notice that the Disqualified entries have been included as well, because after discussing it further they all still meet the build requirements - just not the flickr system - so they should be allowed to race too.

There is one other note - Waldo's pod has been officially disqualified. The reason? It's not done! How are you going to race half a pod? Come on man... you owe us a completed imperial racer (whenever you get around to it).
