Official FBTB Parts Draft: PoP Edition!

Thank you everyone for sending me your availability. I will be working out the best possible time for the draft as soon as I can, which is hopefully by (my) early evening.

At a glance, most of us are North Americans, and lots of West Coasters. And time zones, in general, suck.

It seems the first experimental FBTB draft was fairly popular, in so much as the 10 spots filled up within a few hours, so maybe in the future in order to minimize time zone problems there could be separate drafts for left coasters (PST and MST) and right coasters (CST and EST). I know this doesn't really help out those on other continents, but just something to think about.

Random answers to questions asked via PM and here
-I will be sorting both sets at the same time. Parts that appear in both sets will be lumped together, and if warranted, will be split into multiple lots.

-When possible, bagged elements will remain in their bags. Camels, ostriches, capes, etc will remain in their bags and/or cardboard boxes.

-When I send you your parts, I will be sending you your instructions for the sets also. They're useless because of the nature of parts drafts, but they are rightfully yours.

-I don't know how I'm going to organize the inventory yet. Right now I'm leaning towards listing from highest to lowest quantity. Participants may choose to rearrange it according to their own priorities, though.

-I will send out IRC instructions tomorrow. It won't be difficult. If anyone is still having problems accessing the FBTB IRC chat here, let me know ASAP.

-I don't think it's relevant to this draft yet (haven't come across it yet, anyways) but when there are left and right wedge pieces, for example, those would get paired with their mate and then split evenly. EX: 20 left wings and 20 right wings would be paired: 20 pairs would then be split into two lots of 10 pairs of wings each.

I can't remember if this was answered, but how are we handling minifigs for this particular draft? Are they being counted as lots, or is everyone getting a minifig similar to how you're handling the instructions?

The only reason I ask is I don't really have any personal interest in or use for the PoP themed minfigs, so if they are in the lots I'll likely just put them at the very bottom of my want list.

One more question about how the sorting and lots are being done.

Will you be giving us the total lot count before this starts so we know how many "picks" we're going to have? (Or did you already answer that and I'm just confusing myself. )

Yes, I will be letting you know how many picks you'll get. Hopefully everyone gets the same number of picks, but again this is a draft; you agree to a certain amount of risk with these things, but it somehow balances out. Participant #1 may get the first lot of minifigs he wants, but Participant 7 could end up with the final pick of the draft, and Participants 8-10 never get their nth choice.

While I'm not participating in this draft, I have to admit I'm following the developments rather fascinated... only recently returned from my dark ages, every time I turn around there seems to be something new to discover about the AFOL community.

I hope the draft goes well for everyone involved and I hope that the participants and organizers continue to keep us up-to-date on the proceedings. I'm curious how long the draft will take as well as how many lots/pieces everyone ends up with.
