    Another Retro Splatfest Inkoming

Nintendo, on Twitter, announced another retro Splatfest. This time it’s #TeamTrick vs. #TeamTreat for Splatoween. The last time this ‘fest happened, Team Treat came out on top. Sadly, I chose the wrong side but ever since these retro splatfests have been happeneing, I would switch to the other team from the last time I played. Let’s see if history repeats itself and have Treat come out on top. I love me some sea snails.

In addition to the festivities (no pun intended), there’ll be a chance to get some free gear: Kyonshi Hat, Li’l Devil Horns, Hockey Mask, and Anglerfish Mask. Look for a news announcement on your Switch device, and hit the link to get it in game.

Splatoween will start on Friday October 30th at 3pm PT and goes through Sunday November 1 at 2pm PT.

Nintendo Switch – Animal Crossing: New Horizons Special Edition Console In Stock At Various Retailers

Nintendo has sent various retailers a hefty restock of the special edition Nintendo Switch – Animal Crossing: New Horizons console. Price is $299.99 plus tax and shipping should be free no matter which retailer you shop from:

Hopefully, this will be much easier to afford than those crazy eBay prices.

  • Smash’s Next DLC Fighter Is From Minecraft

Smash’s Next DLC Fighter Is From Minecraft

Nintendo released the announcement trailer for the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Steve from Minecraft. It’s not just Steve though, it looks like you can play as Alex, an Enderman, and a Zombie as well. I say “looks like” because Sakurai didn’t really get into the specifics but considering they each have their own “enters the battle” splash screen you can bet they’re playable. There’ll be a full gameplay reveal video on October 3rd 7:30am PT to go over the move set and all the other details.

I’m ho hum about this but my boys who love Minecraft will be all over this one.

Also, that Minecraft Kirby isn’t real. That was a mod from a few years ago. I’m betting well see what Kirby actually looks like during the 10/3 video.

Nintendo Switch B/R Available Through Amazon [Update: B/R sold out; Gray is available]

Update: The Blue/Red one seems to be sold out from Amazon as the seller, but they are getting the Gray one in:

Nintendo Switch with Gray Joy-Con $299.99

    Original post below:

I can’t believe this is still available. I saw the Nintendo Switch with Blue and Red Joy-Cons last night on Amazon but didn’t think it would last. It’s still available right now as I write this. There’s an estimated ship date of September 29th, but that’s like less than a week man. Hit the links to buy, and you’ll support our site. Make sure it’s shipped and sold by Amazon and that the price is $299.99.

    Thanks and good luck!

Super Mario 3D All-Stars Available at Target and Best Buy

If you’re looking for the physical copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which is only available until March 31st of next year, and missed out on the stupidly-short pre-order window, you’re in luck! The game is currently in stock at Best Buy and Target, with both offering store pickup at some locations.

The game includes 3 solid Mario classics, with Sunshine and Galaxy being adapted for wide screen televisions. Galaxy 2 is still MIA, which is a shame, but just the three classics being available are worth the cost in my book.

    Best Buy: $59.99 | Target: $59.99

  • The Mario Kart Tour My Nintendo Event Starts Today

The Mario Kart Tour My Nintendo Event Starts Today

Update: It appears that the event did kick off yesterday at 11:00pm PT. The Super Mario Kart Tour event is live and real and runs until 10:59pm PT September 22, 2020. You can get SNES and 8-bit versions of racers, karts, and gliders.

    Original post below:

As part of the Mario 35th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo announced a special pin set you can get by completing certain My Nintendo* missions. There were a couple of missions that can only be done at certain times; one of those missions starts today and runs through September 22. The mission is “Race in the Super Mario Kart Tour event”. This event involves racing in Mario Kart Tour app for your mobile device. I wasn’t looking forward to this but I want the pin set so I re-downloaded it.

    Mario Kart Tour Still Sucks

I gave Mario Kart Tour a 2 out of 5 stars in my review and looking back I think I was being overly generous. From the few minutes I spent in the game, I noticed they have made one major improvement in the game and that was including a landscape mode. But this is one of those one step forward two steps back kind of improvements as landscape mode only works while racing. You’ll have to flip the phone sideways to portrait orientation for any of the other game screens which will get pretty annoying pretty fast. Racing and steering your Kart is still way, way, way overly forgiving and will honestly make you a WORSE Mario Kart console player. Trust me on this.

There’s still the tiresome login bonuses, the pipes that require a certain currency to fire off for random prizes, and gems, gem packs, coins, stars, and green “Event” tokens (which seem to be new) to unlock, or buy, or fire pipes with. It’s all still very tiresome and exhausting.

Unfortunately, there’s no indication how much of the game you have to play during the event period. The event period doesn’t exactly coincide with the in-game tour period. And you won’t really know if you raced enough or qualified for mission completion credit until September 29th, a full week after the qualification period. I guess I’ll have to play it safe and race in this stupid game everyday until the 22nd.

All The Super Mario 35 My Nintendo Missions

Here’s a complete list of all the My Nintendo missions you need to complete to get the pin half set. You’ll need to be signed into your account for the credit to appear:

Please note you only get half of the set of pins that were announced. Once this particular set of missions are done, you’ll get another set of missions for the other half.

    * In case you don’t know, My Nintendo is a rewards account like how VIP is for LEGO.

  • Nintendo Announces Prequel to Breath of the Wild called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Nintendo Announces Prequel to Breath of the Wild called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

A Legend of Zelda game set 100 years before Breath of the Wild? Count me in! As a Warriors type of game? Sorry you almost lost me. Almost.

If you’re not familiar with the lore of Breath of the Wild, that 100-year mark is significant. The major events at that time are described in detail in the game and describes the falling of Link and Hyrule Kingdom to Calamity Ganon. Link was to be basically put in a coma to recover from his wounds, rise up, and defeat Ganon, which is the Breath of the Wild game. Now, Nintendo is partnering with KOEI Tecmo Games and announced a new entry in the Warriors games series called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity:

Never has a tweet made me experience such a high and then come crashing down to such low as this one. For a short moment, I kinda thought this was the BOTW 2 sequel, but it’s not. Still though this game does serve as a prequel and that in and of itself is pretty fascinating. Prequels are tricky because whatever tragic events that happened that lead to a current timeline need to be played out in the prequel game. And since you’re always trying to win in video games, how do incorporate the loss of Hyrule Kindgom, the defeat of the Champions, and Link being gravely injured as winning conditions?

There’s nothing wrong with the Warriors games. It was just never my cup of tea. I never got into the first game two Hyrule Warriors games. And I was about to write this one off but after watching that trailer, I may have to get it just to experience the story. Plus, it helps that the art style is exactly the same as BOTW. If it wasn’t, I’d easily write this one off.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity comes out on Friday November 20, 2020 for Nintendo Switch. There’s another update scheduled for 9/26 so hopefully by then we’ll get a peek at the character roster, gameplay mechanics, and actual gameplay (but I can’t imagine it strays too far from the Warriors formula).

  • Pick Up Splatoon 2 for $40

Pick Up Splatoon 2 for $40

Update: Shipping estimate has improved to October 8th now.

I’ve declared Splatoon 2 as my favorite Switch game from the past decade or so. I spent a good stretch of time away from the game when Smash came out, and then picked up again when The Big N resurrected some old splatfests. Splatoon 2 was just as fun as before. Want to know what all the hype is about? Well you can pick up a physical copy of game for just $39.99 (33% off) from Amazon right now. They’re a bit backordered as the page says it will ship on October 23rd but a deal’s a deal. There’s a good amount of single player content but the online modes is where it’s at, and you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play online. But hey, after saving $20 bucks off the retail price, you can get it all for the same retail price. The Octo Expansion is another story though.

  • Pre-order All The New Super Mario Games

Pre-order All The New Super Mario Games

Pre-orders are now live for some of the new Super Mario games announced yesterday. Normally, we’d poopoo on not pre-ordering any games but the limited nature of some of them like Super Mario 3D All-Stars combined with the holiday season fast approaching makes it almost a necessity.

    Super Mario 3D All-Stars

This is a limited-time release with availability from September 18, 2020 through March 31, 2021. You get Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy all on one game cart for $59.99. Physical copies can be pre-ordered from the following retailers:

    Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

There is going to be a physical version of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury but Best Buy is the only place that has a listing for now. Release date is February 21, 2021.

    • Physical: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury $59.99: Best Buy
    • Digital: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury $59.99: Nintendo eShop

MIA (for now): Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

Right now Best Buy is the only retailer that has listings for both the Mario and Luigi set. Cost is $99.99 for each. Unfortunately, as of press time the listings are just placeholders with no actionable add-to-cart buttons. Release date for Home Circuit sets is October 16th!

    • Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit – Mario Set $99.99: Best Buy
    • Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit – Luigi Set $99.99 Best Buy

Also MIA: Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch

No news yet. This is my Number 1 Most Wanted Item from the Direct. I’ll share any updates right after I secure a copy for myself first.

  • Super Mario Splatfest Inkoming

    Super Mario Splatfest Inkoming

There’s a ton of mind-blowing things that came out of the Super Mario Direct. But one of the more surprising things at least in terms of Splatoon 2 is that there is going to be a brand new Splatfest. This isn’t just The Big N recycling a previous ‘fest like the last two, this is a brand new one to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Mario. The theme this time is Super Mushroom (super size) for #TeamPearl vs. Super Star (invincibility) for #TeamMarina. This Splatfest will be happening in January 2021 so it’s still a ways off.

And like the Final Fest from last year, there are special t-shirts you can order. They are $29.99 each and run in sizes ranging from XS to 4XL. They can be ordered directly from Nintendo’s online store:

It took a couple of tries to complete the checkout process, so be patient and keep trying.

And lastly, there’s going to be a set of keychains that will be released closer to the event as a My Nintendo reward:

You know, for no longer supporting Splatoon 2 with updates, there is an awful lot of new content even if some of it was recycled ‘fests. I’m not complaining, not in the least. I’ll take what I can get. Love me some Splatoon.
