LEGO Ideas Blog Posts Third 2019 Review Results

The Third 2019 review process has finally come to a conclusion and three new projects has reached the final “approved” state. And they are:

    Home Alone. McCallister’s House.

Home Alone. McCallister’s House. by adwind

    LEGO Typewriter

    LEGO Typewriter by Steve Guinness

    Seinfeld 30th Anniversary

    Seinfield 30th Anniversary by BrentWaller

LEGO should just go get an NBC license already. I’m not that keen on the Seinfeld set. Newman may have been a regularly occurring character, but I don’t see him as being a main cast member to warrant his inclusion. Also, the apartment should definitely include a Superman microfig.

Not really feeling the McCallister house either ’cause that movie like 89 years old with seriously questionable parenting.

The typewriter though. You young kids may not even know what a typewriter is but it was an ancient device where you would type on keys, much like a computer, but instead of the letters appearing on screen, they get imprinted on a piece of paper. This is the stuff I think Ideas is great for, everyday objects built with LEGO that LEGO normally wouldn’t make. This one, and the piano, this is the stuff that floats my boat with Ideas. Bring on a hand-cranked sewing machine now!

  • LEGO Ideas Reveals 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay

LEGO Ideas Reveals 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay

LEGO Ideas posted a reveal of 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay. This set features a shipwrecked ship spread over a couple of small islands that can be re-assembled into a pirate ship, the Black Seas Barracuda, WITHOUT having to be rebuilt.

The set features 8 minifigs and includes the infamous Captain Redbeard!

Even the box design is a throwback to the sets of yesteryear.

The final set is vastly different from the submitted and approved Pirate Bay idea by Bricky_Brick. And by “vastly different” I mean looks absolutely nothing like it. Here’s what that submission looked like:

Makes me wonder if LEGO had a pirate ship up their sleeve already and just added island bits to make it kinda look like it can be shipwrecked.

21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay will retail for $199.99 USD and will be available for purchase on April 1st, 2020 through LEGO Shop@Home.

  • LEGO Ideas Blog Posts Second 2019 Review Results

LEGO Ideas Blog Posts Second 2019 Review Results

Earlier today, the LEGO Ideas site posted a new blog entry detailing the results of the Second 2019 Review. Of the ten candidates, two sets were approved:

    Medieval Blacksmith by Namirob

    Winnie the Pooh by benlouisa

A previous candidate that needed additional review time, Anatomini by Stephenix, did not make the cut.

This round’s winners both look like fine sets. I’d be interested in the Winnie the Pooh one. While they’ve had a few Winnie the Pooh sets before, they were Duplo scale. benlouisa’s project is minifig scale. Using custom pieces, Eeyore looks fantastic but that Tigger? Not so much. Piglet would probably look better with kid legs. I’m super-curious to see how the figures will evolve. And I’m still waiting for the Piano.

You can read more on at the LEGO Ideas blog post and watch the announcement video they posted there.

  • LEGO Ideas Polls Fans For Next Star Wars UCS Set

LEGO Ideas Polls Fans For Next Star Wars UCS Set

Over at the LEGO Ideas blog, they posted a poll asking fans to vote for the next LEGO Star Wars set they’d like to see. Your choices are: Nebulon-B Frigate (LEGO Ideas lists it as “Nebulon B Escort Frigate” even though StarWars.com lists it Nebulon-B Frigate), TIE Bomber, and Republic Gunship. These are all fine choices as neither of them have been made into a UCS-scale set. Here’s how I rank the choices.

    First Place: Nebulon-B Frigate

If it were up to me though, I’d have to vote for the Nebulon-B Frigate since it’s never been made into a set at any scale. That’s really the only qualifier. Plus it’s cool. Plus rebel alliance capital ships hardly get any love.

    Second Place: TIE Bomber

We need more TIE variants at UCS-scale. Not sure I would have said the same thing around the time that Vader’s UCS TIE Advanced came out ’cause that set was a fragile little thing. But given just how AWESOME the UCS TIE Fighter was, I’d welcome them more than ever. Plus, given it’s similiarities to the TIE Advanced, it should be relatively easy to convert the Bomber into one. Maybe LEGO can provide alternate instructions? I realize making instructions isn’t free and easy but maybe they can… I don’t know… offer it as a download using VIP points or something.

    Third Place: Republic Gunship

I never built one because this thing is based on a movie that I loathed, so I had good reason. But now that Rise of the Skywalker has replaced it at the bottom of my Star Wars movie rankings, I look at it now and think “it’s not that bad”. Besides, we’ve had several iterations of the RGS. And to tie it back to my reasoning for first place, if given a chance to make something completely new or make something we’ve had before but bigger, I’d always go for something new.

So if you have any opinions and want to participate and feel like your vote counts even though it probably doesn’t, head on over to the LEGO Ideas Next Star Wars UCS Set Poll and cast your vote.

Images in this post were borrowed from the LEGO Ideas page, which were probably borrowed from the internet.

  • LEGO Shop@Home Black Friday Weekend Sale Day 2

LEGO Shop@Home Black Friday Weekend Sale Day 2

Anyone super annoyed by Amazon’s handling of the UCS Falcon sale? Yeah me too.

But there are really great deals to be had still. Here are today’s 30% off sales items at LEGO Shop@Home and Brand Retail locations.

And as usual, there are more things on sale for 20% off. One item of note is 76108 Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown from Infinity War for $79.99. It’s the only set that I know of that has Iron Spider-Man.

I’m a little late in posting this but maybe if you’re out and about and near a LEGO store, you can still find the NINJAGO City set. LEGO’s overhauled website may not have stuck the landing, but one of the more recent updates is pretty nice: you can now check store stock levels to see any of your nearby stores have a particular set in stock.

Now the question is if you want to brave the traffic and crowds to get it.

  • Ideas Reveals LEGO Dinosaur Fossils

    Ideas Reveals LEGO Dinosaur Fossils

LEGO Ideas is pulling the wraps off of its latest approved project, 21320 Fossils. The original project reached the required 10k supporters in October of last year, qualifying it for the Third 2018 Review. That review cycle concluded of May of this year and here we are, seeing the first images of the official set.

The first obvious thing that’s different from the original submission is that the fossils are now all white instead of tan.

Second, it includes two minifigures, one of which is a paleontologist skeleton. That hat though; a reference to Dr. Alan Grant?

Third, you only get three out of what ended up becoming a cast of eight: Pteranodon, Triceratops, and T. rex. Spinosaurus and the others are a no show but who knows, perhaps there’ll be a sequel with the unused models.

And fourth, the models are MUCH more substantial in build and piece count per model than the originals. Just looking at the T. rex you can tell how much beefier the final came out to be.

    Original:

    Final:

I’ll be honest, if you showed me both models and told me the white one was based off the tan one, I’d check to make sure that your pants weren’t on fire. The only similarity are the bits of tan jammed in between all that white. Oh, and the T. rex name. Other than that, they look absolutely nothing alike but for the better. The official models seem more visually interesting and have more complex builds.

The 21320 Fossils product page over at LEGO Shop@Home is live right now. You can purchase the set starting on November 1, 2019. 21320 Fossils will cost $59.99 USD / $79.00 CAD / £54.99 GBP.
