    VIP Weekend Is On Now

LEGO VIP Weekend is going on right now. Here are the deals:

    • Free Charles Dickens Tribute set with purchase of $150 or more.
    • Free Buildable 2×4 Teal Brick with purchase of $200 or more.
    • Double VIP points on all purchases.

The threshold for the free Charles Dickens is pretty strict at $150. Adding Monkey King Warrior Mech to my bag, which is $149.99, did not trigger the set to be added to my. Conversely, the ECTO-1 set, or any other set priced at $199.99, triggered the Buildable 2×4 Teal Brick and the Charles Dickens Tribute set to be added to my bag. I’d say if there’s one GWP that might be worth getting, it would be the Charles Dickens set. And if you’re already at the $150 threshold, it’s not a far reach to get to $200 to get the brick either.

Now would be the time to get the ECTO-1. The GWP sets will be available all weekend or while supplies last.

The other promo that’s active is the Han Solo in Carbonite metal keychain offer. It went away, but they brought it back. LEGO.com sent me a sample and it is now my favorite thing in the world. Just add $99 worth of LEGO Star Wars sets to your cart, and the keychain should show up automatically. Some easy no-brainers would be the Razor Crest for $129.99, Slave I 20th Anniversary Edition for $119.99, or Tantive IV for $199.99. That last one will score you the keychain and the other promos as well.

  • Don’t Buy The UCS ECTO-1 Set Until This Weekend

Don’t Buy The UCS ECTO-1 Set Until This Weekend

The UCS 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1 set went on sale yesterday for $199.99, but don’t go out and buy it yet assuming you’re a VIP member. This upcoming weekend, on November 21 and November 22, is VIP Weekend. If memory serves, this means as a VIP member you can take advantage of some Black Friday deals ahead of next weekend’s shopping holiday. Some of the deals include:

    • Double VIP points on all purchases.
    • Free teal-colored VIP Brick on all purchases over $200. This looks the same as the red brick from last year. Is it worth trying to get to the $200 threshold? No, but if you’re gonna get the ECTO-1 set, all you’d need is a keychain set to push you over the top.
    • Free Charles Dickens Tribute set on all purchases over $150. This should stack easily with the ECTO-1.

Expect the deals to go live on midnight eastern time / Friday 11/20 9pm Pacific. You can expect some of the same promotions next weekend plus more, assuming they don’t completely sell out of the GWP sets.

  • LEGO Reveals Ghostbusters BrickHeadz Two-pack

    LEGO Reveals Ghostbusters BrickHeadz Two-pack

LEGO revealed the below image on social media earlier today showing a Ghostbusters BrickHeadz two-pack set. The set features Peter Venkman all slimed up and the perpetrator Slimer. I’m curious how they’re going to accomplish the floating effect as I am unaware of levitating bricks. My request to LEGO for additional assets has not been answered yet, but I will update this post if they get back to me with anything.

Now we just need Egon, Ray, Winston, Ecto-1, Dana, Louis….

And if you read the subtitles to the articles and in case you didn’t pick up on it, I was being sarcastic as I predicted a Ghostbusters BrickHeadz set back when the Back To The Future BrickHeadz were revealed. Anyone with half a brain could have predicted this coming, though, or some version of this anyway.

  • Ghostbusters Ecto 1 & 2 On Massive Discount

Ghostbusters Ecto 1 & 2 On Massive Discount

Both Amazon and Walmart are offering Ghostbusters set 75828 Ecto 1 & 2 with a massive discount of 34% off MSRP. It’s just $39.73. Despite how you feel about the movie this is a set you should definitely check out. We rated the set at 4 out of 5 stars in our review. If one was enterprising enough, one could incorporate the best elements of both Ecto-1 vehicles into one super vehicles that could possibly seat 2×2 and still have a slide sled from the back. Just sayin’.

  • Amazon Discounts LEGO Batman Movie Dimensions Story Pack

Amazon Discounts LEGO Batman Movie Dimensions Story Pack

It doesn’t come out for a couple of weeks, but Amazon has discounted the pre-order for the LEGO Batman Movie Dimensions story pack from $49.99 to $29.99. It includes Robin, Batgirl, and likely a whole lot of movie references and jokes.

It also looks like the Fantastic Beasts Story Pack and the Ghostbusters Story Pack are both down 20% to $39.99.

FBTB Live Streaming LEGO Dimensions – SAT @ 8:30 PM CST

The new year of LEGO Dimensions has hit shelves (well, some of them… I had to ask the clerk at Best Buy to find them for me), and that means that there’s a whole lot of game playing to be had. For our second session, we’re going to crack open the new Ghostbusters Starter Set (and probably sprinkle in a few other new minifigures because we can). Please hop on our Twitch Channel and start chatting with us and your fellow Bothans!

Watch live video from fb2b on www.twitch.tv

Additionally, the playthroughs for the first two levels of the base game, Wizard of Oz and The Simpsons, are available on our YouTube Channel (yes, FBTB has a YouTube Channel; I know, I was surprised too).

  • Review: 75828 Ecto-1 & 2

    Review: 75828 Ecto-1 & 2

You know, given my history and general tone on the stuff I write for the site, you’d think that this would be my perfect chance to rant about the new Ghostbusters movie. My love of the original was stated when I reviewed the original 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 set (which remains one of my favorite sets ever). I’m pretty sure I’ve also talked about how I don’t tend to like reboots (though I don’t dismiss them out-of-hand most of the time). Yet I’m always calling out gender stuff in sets and reviews, so this seems like the kind of thing that could lead to one of those long and rant-y reviews that I’m prone to do.

But, to be honest… I don’t want to. The movie has come and gone, and shockingly, the original movie still exists and childhoods have not been destroyed. Tragically, the second movie still exists as well. I enjoyed the movie, but I also understand it wasn’t targeted at me. When people asked after I watched it, I said I enjoyed it, but also said how someone would enjoy it more they liked Bridesmaids or The Heat than if they liked the original Ghostbusters. It was good with the characters, but they were never going to catch lightning in the bottle like the first one did (and it was a real outlier compared to similar-themed movies of that era). Like the movie or don’t like the movie, I really don’t care at this point. I enjoyed it, but mostly will be covering it here in relation to the set.

Honestly, I purchased this set after I saw the movie, which I saw the weekend it came out. I just sat around not taking pictures, so it took me awhile to get around to reviewing 75828 Ecto-1 & 2. The story pack for Dimensions is showing up, and the movie will release on Blu Ray in a few weeks, so it’ll likely be back in the news again. At $59.99, 556 pieces, and six figures, there looks to be a lot of value in the set. It’s also just enough like the original to be recognizable, but when you put them side-by-side, different enough to be its own little set.

  • LEGO Shop@Home Update: Lower Free Shipping Minimum, Bonus Points, Ecto-1 & 2 Now Available,

LEGO Shop@Home Update: Lower Free Shipping Minimum, Bonus Points, Ecto-1 & 2 Now Available,

There are a couple of LEGO Shop@Home updates you should know about.

First up is that they are now offering free shipping with a lower purchase threshold: just $35 dollars! And that’s in both US and CA dollars! That should make shopping there a little more convenient.

Next up is a bonus offer of 500 VIP points. All you need to do is purchase 70751 Temple of Airjitzu to get those points. The temple costs $199.99, so getting another 500 points on top is even better than getting it on a Double VIP points day and who knows when the next time that’s going to happen. 500 points translates to $35 on a future shopping trip. You’ll need to be a VIP member to get those points, natch.

And finally, in terms of new sets for sale, LEGO Ghostbusters 75828 Ecto-1 & 2 ($59.99) and LEGO Creator 10253 Big Ben ($249.99) are both for sale. The new Ecto-1 features an improved design over the LEGO Ideas set in that the interior has room to seat four minifigs. Amazon has the Ecto-1 & 2 for sale at the same price as well.

If you’re wanting the Ecto-1 with the original cast from the ’80s movie, that set is still available: LEGO Ideas 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1.

  • New Dimensions Fun Packs, LEGO Scooby-Doo Haunted Hollywood Movie Released

New Dimensions Fun Packs, LEGO Scooby-Doo Haunted Hollywood Movie Released

    LEGO Scooby

LEGO is a company that always likes to keep its secrets, but I’m thinking they might have gone overboard on their original movie, LEGO Scooby-Doo Haunted Hollywood, which came out today. Thrak360 on the forums pointed this out as well, and I saw it when I was at Target picking up Deadpool (which also came out today). My daughter loves the LEGO movies, so I had to pick it up. For those who are curious, he comes packaged in a polybag with the movie.

    All Wave 5 (02)

In similar news of releases, though this is less “didn’t know” and more “forgot about entirely,” the Wave 5 stuff for Dimensions also showed up today, featuring Ghostbuster’s Slimer and Batman’s Bane. I’d ordered Slimer from Amazon back in December, and was shocked when it showed up today (damaged, crushed, and mangled… thanks, Amazon!).

    All Wave 5 (01)

I’m not sure when it happened, but it looks like Dimensions Fun Packs have also had their MSRP dropped to $11.99, and Bane is currently enjoying a discount on top of that, so you can get him for just $8.50 as of this writing. Unfortunately, Slimer is out of stock, which isn’t surprising, given that your other option for getting him is a $350 set. Might be time to order Bane and crack out Dimensions…

  • A New Team Suits Up In First Ghostbusters Trailer

A New Team Suits Up In First Ghostbusters Trailer

I see very few movies in theatre these days. In part due to the expense (it’s cheaper to wait and buy the Blu-ray than to take two people much less three) and partly because it’s wildly inconvenient to schedule for us. The MCU movies are the priority for our family and this year Ghostbusters is on the short list as well. My son started asking to watch “the ghost movie” soon after he really started talking and when he turned two, I gave in. We figured he’d either get bored before the first ghost showed up or when the librarian got cranky, he’d be out. He hid his head under the blanket for a second when she reared her ugly head, but his eyes quickly crested that fluffy wall of security and remained glued until the film was over. He was hooked. Ten viewings in that first month and zero nightmares later it replaced Shrek as his favourite movie. PRAISE MURRAY!

As a kid, Egon was my favourite and I wonder who will be the favourite for the kids that go to see this one. For Odin, my money is on Holtzman, but only time will tell. I already kinda want the action figures and will definitely be getting the LEGO set, which sucks because it’s already a bad year for toys for me. Just when I thought I was out, the B:TAS Batwing, Hasbro Cap Shield, Rainbow Batman box set and Hot Toys Ash draws me back in. Might as well enjoy the ride, right?

So, who you gonna be… will you be calling… who…

Are you planning on seeing this in July?
