  • A Year of Polybags 161/260: 30546 Krypto saves the day Review

A Year of Polybags 161/260: 30546 Krypto saves the day Review

Today’s set, 30546 Krypto saves the day, is very weird.

First of all, I don’t understand why Supergirl’s dog’s name is Krypto. Named after her home planet? Sure, I can buy that, but it’s also her biggest weakness, her Achilles’ heel. It’s like a kid who has a peanut allergy naming their pet hamster Peanut. (BTW, I think Peanut as a name for a hamster is a FANTASTIC idea). Like, why would you do that?

Secondly, this is obviously the classic Lex Luthor v. Superman rivalry re-imagined through pets and… “Kryptomites”. But why does Krypto need a dogjet? Does he/she not have the ability to fly?

And what kind of cyrstal is the jet carrying? That’s not… kryptonite is it? Does the dog have any super powers at all?

And why is the name of the set in sentence case and not title case? It’s weird to see “saves the day” not have initial caps. Even the toy story set “Army Men on Patrol” had the letter “P” in patrol capitalized. Just weird and a bit off-putting. A minor quibble yes.

Clearly, I am not the target audience for this polybag. I’m sure there’s some lore somewhere that I would need to read to know what’s going on, or some cartoon I would need to watch. Does the dog speak in secret like how Stewie from Family Guy only talks to Brian? And what the heck is a Kryptomite? And who engineers their little jetpacks? Questions abound in this polybag!

Does It Suck or Does It Rock?

This set sucks! I’m not a fan. I’m not the target market either. Even if I was, it’s just nonsense what is going on in this set.

Yeah I’m falling behind again. I need to get motivated again.

    Sponsorship

There’s no sponsor this week, and with sponsorships lasting a whole week, you can get plenty of exposure for mere pennies. Pennies I say! Want to sponsor a review? Send me a message to admin@fbtb.net or hit me up on discord of the polybag set you have that you want me to review. If selected, in exchange for the set you’ll get a mention right here in the review post and a link to your website or social media account or just about anything else.. Nearly free advertising, so what’s stopping you?

You Can Win This And Every Other Polybag I Review This Year

I’ll be raffling every polybag I review this year in one big lot, all 260 sets (with the possibility of more). Each set will be individually stored in a ziploc baggie complete with the extra pieces, instructions, and the actual polybag bag it came in. The cost of a raffle ticket is just $1 USD and you can enter as many times as you want. Send a PayPal payment to paypal@fbtb.net for $1 USD for every ticket you want to purchase. DO NOT send one payment for multiple entries i.e. do not send one $5 USD payment for five tickets; five $1 USD payments must be made instead. Raffle is open to everyone in the world except where raffles are illegal. Be sure to put “POLYBAG RAFFLE” in the notes section of the payment in order to be entered successfully. Winner will be drawn sometime early January 2023 and contacted at the PayPal email address the payment was sent from to arrange for delivery. For a running list of all the sets that you can win, check this Google spreadsheet.

  • Batgirl Batjet Chase Retiring Soon, On Sale Now

Batgirl Batjet Chase Retiring Soon, On Sale Now

Update 11/1: TRU has the best price as of this writing: $12.49. Amazon’s prize is updated to $14.99 but may match TRU’s price.

I was browsing LEGO Shop@Home’s website when I noticed 41230 Batgirl Batjet Chase was marked as “Retiring Soon”. We reviewed 41230 Batgirl Batjet Chase just about a year ago and gave it a solid 5 out of 5 stars. Looking back, I still stand by that score. It’s a nice little build and worth every penny of it’s $24.99 price tag. But right now you can pick it up for just $16.29 at Amazon; that’s 35% off MSRP. If you prefer to shop at Shop@Home, it’s 20% off at $19.99 over there.

[Toy Fair 2017] LEGO DC Super Hero Girls

Next up is the next wave of LEGO DC Super Heroes Girls. Hopefully these are turning out to be a hit, because they’ve been marketed so oddly by LEGO thus far. Still, the Friends, Princess, and DC Girls lines have had some of the most part innovation in recent memory.

  • New Polybags Showing Up at TRU and Target in US

New Polybags Showing Up at TRU and Target in US

It’s (finally) almost 2017, and that means that new sets and the like are starting to show up. While we’re going to get a sales roundup going for some of the new sets popping up January 1st, there are a few things out there that you need to visit a store to pick up.

First up, a LEGO Batman Movie polybag that I grabbed at Target week-ish back while on the prowl for new LEGO Batman sets.

It’s an easy way to get the new Batman with the utility belt and some lightsaber bars. There are a bunch of Batman figures hopping around thanks to all the sets, but at $3.99 and 59 parts, there’s a bunch of value here regardless.

If you want to look for it, here’s the Item # and UPC. I’ve seen it in multiple Targets around Dallas, so it should be relatively easy to find.

The more exciting one for me, honestly, is this polybag that I ran across at TRU. While hiding my shame at being in the store (which was mitigated when I made them price-match to S@H prices for 70900 The Joker Balloon Escape set and negate the TRU tax), I was surprised to see this fantastic little Krypto polybag, also coming in at $3.99.

I doubt if you have a soul if you do not fall in love with that little dog. The rest is gravy. Interesting side-note… all of the logo parts in the polybag, including the Superman logo and the series logo on the tail, are printed.

  • Review: 41232 Super Hero High School

Review: 41232 Super Hero High School

This is our final review for the LEGO DC Super Hero Girls preview sets, 41232 Super Hero High School. After coming off the disappointing 41231 Harley Quinn to the rescue review, I was bracing myself for something just as disappointing since it was also a location-based set instead of a vehicle-based set like 41230 Batgirl Batjet Chase was. The set also looked heavily juniorized judging by the intial pictures of the set, especially how Poison Ivy’s motorcycle was built. But after building this with my daughter and seeing all the features they packed into it, my opinion changed. This, now this is what a playset should be.

Review: 41231 Harley Quinn to the rescue

For this review of 41231 Harley Quinn to the rescue, let’s cut to the chase: this is the worst set out of the three preview sets for LEGO DC Super Hero Girls.

Now you may think that the reality of having to rank the three sets in order of greatness will result in one set that comes in last place. While that may be true, it doesn’t change the fact that this set just doesn’t have a whole lot of good points going for it. I can count on two fingers the number of reasons to get this set.

  • Review: 41230 Batgirl Batjet Chase

    Review: 41230 Batgirl Batjet Chase

Way back when a license was announced for LEGO to produce sets based on DC Super Hero Girls, it couldn’t have come at a better time. My daughter falls into the target age group and she, thankfully, enjoys LEGO as much as I do. She recently picked up a comic book based on the DC Super Hero Girls and really enjoyed reading it. So building these sets was a perfect storm of her interests coming together. LEGO sent over a sample of the three sets that are available early ahead of the usual January cycle and I put her to task to build all of them. She would build, and I would supervise and take notes for this review. She gravitated toward 41230 Batgirl Batjet Chase for her first build and was swooshing it around by the end of the night. It was a hit.
