    To The Batcave!

This version of the Batcave created by Carlyle Livingston II & Wayne Hussey was highlighted by The Brothers Brick the other day, but it’s just too impressive not to spotlight here as well. The details are as amazing as the scale of the build and they managed to work a balance between the industrial finished sections of the cave and the fantastic rock work around them. The picture below featuring the two builders gives a sense of the creations scale and even manages to dwarf a couple of the largest SW sets in the process.

It’s impossible for me to pick a favourite part of this MOC, so take a look at the set on Flickr and let the pictures speak for themselves. Make sure you watch their videos too and check out the stats on this massive accomplishment.

We spent 400 hours each over three months building this. We started in Early January and finished in late March.

We estimate over 20,000 pieces but it’s probably much more.

It weighs in at 100 pounds.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout Set Revealed

After seeing the minifigures teased at the San Diego Comic Con the first official picture of the largest set (so far) from the new Super Heroes line has finally arrived. It seems the Batman line is chugging right along with releasing updated versions of the sets from the original series, but at first glance I will say I like the look of this one more than the other refits. It’s no wonder Batman’s rogues gallery busts out of Arkham so often, the place is covered with weapons.
The set is due to be available from LEGO in January.

  • Bruce Lowell’s Silent Guardian

    Bruce Lowell’s Silent Guardian

Bruce Lowell says he’s wanted to do a Batman based MOC for some time as a tribute to the Nolan films and this art deco poster partly inspired by Batman: TAS was the result. This isn’t the first of of these mosaics I’ve felt needed to be shared and I hope it won’t be the last.

  • LEGO In DC’s Darkness & Light Exhibition

Nathan Sawaya was on hand to assemble and donate this brick built recreation of Jim Lee’s Batman: Justice painting to the We Can Be Heroes Darkness & Light Art Exhibition. ComicBook.com took one of very few photos of the completed piece and while that’s a shame, I understand why few people would be lured away from the main events of SDCC to wander into this small, underhyped art show.
Photoblogger Mayoress also stopped by to get a look and got this shot of Sawaya’s Catwoman scupture and one of his previous Clark & Hal sculpts in flight.

There are two more chances to catch this exhibit on tour in Atlanta, GA – August 4-13th at the Phipps Plaza and Chicago, IL – September 19-26th venue TBA. Fan of Jim Lee’s artwork? You can buy a signed lithograph of the above painting from DC Entertainment. It’s not cheap, but it’s limited to 200 prints and 75% of the price goes directly to the charities supported by DC’s We Can Be Heroes intiative.

  • Sneak Peak @ Next Years LEGO Super Hero Lineup

Next Years DC Super Heroes RevealedNext Years DC Super Heroes Revealed 2

I hope these pics will satisfy some of the comic fans out there who’ve been wishing certain figs would pop up asap!
First up on the DC side we have Mister Freeze, Aquaman, a white suited Batman, Bane, Commissioner Gordon with a SWAT flack jacket, hooded Robin, Scarecrow, Arkham jumpsuit Joker, Penguin and what I believe is Harley Quinn in a nurse disquise. I believe these may or may not be based at least in part on the popular Arkham Asylum/City games that I have not had the pleasure to play, though Gordon and Bane to look like they may be based on their movie counterparts.

Next up on the Marvel side we have Spider-man, Nick Fury (Finally!), Venom, Nova, J. Jonah Jameson, Victor Von Doom and I have no idea who the red winged guy is. Human Fly? A new character from the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon? Hopefully Ace can shed some light on him if no one else can.

Seems like a nice line up to me and I’m betting there will be some others who will pop up sooner or later. Check back tonight as Ace hopes to have some more pics of these figures as an update.

Update: Well, that was fast! Ace has secured official pics of all these figs and more and apparently that red winged guy is Beetle. Guess he got an update since his purple suited days in Web Of Spider-man.

  • Review: LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

    LEGO Batman 2 Logo

I don’t play as many video games as I used to and the game time I do have is usually reserved for old favourites and anything I can play with my son. LEGO Batman 2 falls within both of these catagories and while it definitely follows the same formula we’ve seen in the previous LEGO games, it also strays into uncharted LEGO territory with a couple of new features. I along with many of you have been playing these games for years now across their many iterations and there have been few prior changes in the grand scheme, so do these updates hurt or hinder a game that already seemed like it had the potential to be an improvement over the original?

    Even More Amazon Deals

Amazon has a few sets on discount worth noting. Despite these reductions, I get the feeling everyone’s just waiting on the fall stuff to arrive. Still, now would be a good time to fill in those holes in your collection before they get discontinued and skyrocket in price in the aftermarket. Besides everyone needs more Ewoks:

And don’t forget, you can pre-order the LEGO Batman: Visual Dictionary from DK Publishing for the low, low price of $13.75. Authored by Daniel Lipkowitz, the book features the previously announced Electro Suit Batman exclusive minifig. The publication date is set for September 17, 2012. Pre-order it today:

  • Review: 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape

    6857 Funhouse overall

There’s always that hard-to-find chase variant. 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape is the exclusive set in the first wave of DC Super Heroes sets. It can only be found in a LEGO Brand retail store, online at LEGO Shop@Home, or in a Toys R Us. Problem is, the LEGO store is always sold out, Shop@Home has shipping fees, and Toys R Us has marked up the set by $10. I’d been drooling over this set for months, hoping to find it in a LEGO stor. With some VIP points saved up and the Hulk minifigure promo, I was finally able to justify getting this set online.

The 'other' car – minifig scale lego Batmobile

It wasn’t until Calin’s (_Tiler) flickr stream was linked to in chat the other day that I finally became aware of his work. The above is his latest Batmobile, the Batrod. And yes, it fits the Batman minifig. He’s got a whole host of other incredible works, including microscale and minifig scale Tumblers. Check out his LEGO Batmobile flickr set for more.

  • Pre-Order LEGO Batman Visual Dictionary & New LEGO Batman 2 Game Info

    Official Cover Art

Been a bit negligent on posting lately, let a lot of stuff slide by and that probably won’t change anytime soon, but Batman really doesn’t deserve that type of treatment. It’s easy for him to get lost in all the Avengers hype right now, so here’s a bit of a Bat-news roundup.

The LEGO Batman: Visual Dictionary (LEGO DC Universe Super Heroes) book from DK Publishing is now available for pre-order and the exclusive minfig that will come with it has been revealed to be Electro Suit Batman from the upcoming video game. I didn’t think there were enough sets and such to fill a book yet, but based on the images like the one below and the fig, I’m in.

Speaking of the video game, ComicBookMovie.com did a report on some info in the latest issue of Game Informer Magazine with some interesting new details about the upcoming LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes game. I’ve cobbled together the relevant info and included it after the jump and you can pre-order the book or the game from Amazon by clicking the pics above.
