A Couple of Toy Fair Videos

Side note: I had a draft of this post since forever and am now finally getting around to it. Yep, ever since Toy Fair.

I updated each of the theme’s posts with some of the videos I took showcasing some of the play features but I thought I’d repost them here in case anyone reading this didn’t go back.

The one video that I couldn’t find a home for was The Rexcelsior, posted above. It shows a little more of the play features that never made it through the press release. More Star Wars stuff below.

75239 Action Battle Hoth Generator Attack

These worked about as well as you think they would.

    75236 Duel on Starkiller Base

Something occurred to me as I rewatched this video. Why hasn’t the Star Wars license adopted the BeyBlade-style Spinjitzu toy feature from Ninjago? Seems like it would be fitting.

    75937 Triceratops Rampage

I’m pretty sure I made a comment before about the Fairground Mixer being a great set to take out some aggression on. You can just really crank away at it and have the Mixer spin and spin. This kiddie ride, using the gigantic gears, felt just as satisfying in my test run.

    75243 Slave I – 20th Anniversary Edition

I didn’t notice until late during the preview party that the Slave I set housed a pair of missile launchers I couldn’t figure out how they launched so I enlisted Erik’s help. I was never a fan of the missile launchers, maybe I’m too old to appreciate their play value, but I do appreciate the ways they can be incorporated without being overly conspicuous.

  • No Second Half Sets Shown, Again

No Second Half Sets Shown, Again

Our Toy Fair coverage is done and if you noticed, there is a distinct lack of second half product. No Super Heroes, Marvel or DC, no Disney, no Minecraft, nothing. And this extends beyond the licensed themes: City, Ninjago, Friends, all were first half. And I didn’t shoot that Hidden Room stuff.

This is the exact same thing that happened last year. The only difference being that we were told ahead of time that no second half product was going to be shown. At least I think we were told ahead of time. Last year, LEGO made up for it a few months later by having a second event in May. When asked if history would repeat itself, the only response I got was that they have not planned anything yet, and are exploring options.

I rather enjoyed the second event last year. It felt much more relaxed and social. Even though it was last minute, I managed to make it work and really hope they do it again.

As far as what we were shown today, I think I’m most excited about the Jurassic World line up. The models all looked great with lots of play functions. And of course, the dinos. I love little LEGO dinosaurs. I never saw the first LEGO Jurassic World animated series, but I may have to catch up on that while I’m on the plane.

If this continues to happen, I may have to rethink my trips to New York. While enjoyable, they are not cheap and there isn’t enough return to make the investment worthwhile. We shall have to see.

  • This Year’s Toy Fair Swag

    This Year’s Toy Fair Swag

This year, LEGO was very generous with their swag bag offerings. There was a bit of a dry spell for a few years where there was no swag bag, but this year, and last, they’ve included a rather sizable set as a parting gift for attending the event. This year we were showered with gifts:

    • 1 copy of 21316 The Flintstones Ideas set
    • Double-sided Unikitty Poster
    • The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet Bag Tag
    • 1 pack of The LEGO Movie 2 trading cards
    • 1 The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet watch.

I’m grateful that they’ve invited us again and showered us all with free swag.
