  • Marvel’s LEGO Variant Covers For September 18th, 2013

    Daredevil #31

New comic book day this week (Wednesday, always Wednesdays) brings us our second two covers promoting the upcoming LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game. I was very lucky to get both of last weeks covers, but my local shop only gets in 5 copies of Daredevil and I was surprised they get that many honestly. I can’t remember the last time I read a good Daredevil arc, but Marvel has managed to make me want to buy an issue regardless.

    Dastardly!

If you’d like to support local businesses, hit up the Comic Shop Locator and punch in your zip code. Gooker1 informed me last week and told me his local shop was selling the color variants for $10 bucks a pop, so shopping locally may save you some coin.

  • Metro News Confirms 150 Characters for LEGO Marvel Game

    LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Spider-Man

As if having over 100 characters wasn’t enough, it was revealed yesterday in a Metro News article that the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game will now sport about 150 characters. Unfortunately it is unknown if any of DLC characters make up part of that 150 number or if it is in addition to that. They also have a brief interview with game director Arthur Parsons where he describes some of the game mechanics of fighting between the normal minifigures and the big figs such as Hulk and Juggernaut. Here is a brief list of confirmed characters so far:

  • Marvel LEGO Variant Covers Primer & Gallery

    Superior Spider-Man #19 - LEGO Sketch Variant

With the first of the upcoming Marvel LEGO Variant Covers set to drop this week with X-men #5 and Mighty Avengers #1, we thought it might be a good idea to go over some of the details on how these variant covers work. I’m also putting all of the covers in this post as a sort of all in one gallery to keep track of the issues for those interested. There are five of the forty two missing at this point, but I will add them to this post when they pop up. If you collect comics you probably know all this already, anyone for whom comics is not their usual collectable may find this helpful. One thing is certain in both cases, it’s going to cost you.

  • LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Stan Lee Trailer

Announced at San Diego Comic Con a few months ago, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes will feature Stan Lee as a playable character. A new trailer was released today showing some of his super powers and featuring Stan Lee recording his lines. The game comes out this fall on all current gaming platforms. Be sure to pre-order your Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii U from Walmart.com to get the Iron Patriot minifigure pre-order bonus. Check the box on the right to see availability in for non-US markets.

Powerpig’s Remarkable Brick Sketches – Part Deux!

Deux means two, for those of you who don’t speak French… like me. Chris McVeigh hasn’t slowed down in his creation of pop culture LEGO marker sketches and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to make exact copies of them and put my favourites up in a frame.

  • Marvel LEGO Variant Cover Checklist Gets Sketchy

Marvel LEGO Variant Cover Checklist Gets Sketchy

As if it weren’t bad enough that Marvel will be releasing LEGO Variants of 21 titles starting in September, the news is out that there will also be sketch variants of these already limited quantity covers. The standard colour versions look to be in the 1 in 25 variant range and the sketches are sitting pretty at a wallet shattering 1 in 100. If you were planning on collecting all of these covers then it looks like you’ll be dropping some serious coin. I for one am glad I’ve only planned on grabbing a small handful of these and I won’t be holding my breath for any sketch covers on this one. I have no solid confirmation that all 21 books will also have sketches, but it’s looking good that these covers may just be a costly answer to life, the universe and everything.

At the very least, these sketches have revealed the last three variants that were previously unreleased. Iron Man #17, Captain America #12 and my personal favourite Superior Spider-Man #19. I’ll post when the final three colour covers are revealed and as soon as the remainder of the sketch covers show also. We plan on doing weekly posts once these covers are ready to hit shelves and remind folks what are being released, so good luck hunting Mighty Marvelites!

  • Galactus Lands In New LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Trailer

Galactus Lands In New LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Trailer

Marvel has launched a full trailer for the upcoming LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game and it ties the overall story together with the bits we’ve seen up to this point quite well. They’ve also posted nineteen new screen shots that look to be cropped suspiciously to Facebook cover size, feature some of the previously mentioned but unseen characters and give us a peek at the movie inspired SHIELD helicarrier seen below.

    I can’t wait for this game…

  • 6866 Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown Discounted to $16.14

    6866 Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown Discounted to $16.14

This set sold out the last time we reported on it a few months ago, but now Amazon.com has restocked 6866 Wolverine Chopper Showdown and restocked it at the sale price from last time. It’s listed at $16.14, 19% discount. The set comes with minifigs of Wolverine, Deadpool, and Magneto. Free Super Saver Shipping kicks in if your order hits $25 or more, no minimum if you have Prime.

Naturally, Walmart is selling the same set at the same price, though I’m pretty sure Walmart pulled the trigger first.

  • Iron Patriot Available At Walmart Canada

Iron Patriot Available At Walmart Canada

I’ve been bothering different retailers on a constant basis and then tonight I see this. Wonder no longer my Great White Northern amigos, Walmart is the place to be in North America for the iron patriotic. As long as you have a PS3, 360 or a WiiU that is. Of course, there is still no info on Walmart.ca, so in store is probably our only option. There were no WiiU pre-order cards, so I’ll be taking my chances and showing up on release day which is listed as 09/30/13 online even though the pre-order card says October. It’s pretty much October, I suppose. At least we know for sure now.

  • CBR Reveals Two More Marvel Comics LEGO Variant Covers

CBR Reveals Two More Marvel Comics LEGO Variant Covers

Mighty Avengers #1 - LEGO Variant

It’s new comic book day and CBR is celebrating by revealing two more exclusive Marvel Comics LEGO variant covers to help you get over this weeks hump. This time Leonel Castellani has done homages to another Jim Lee cover and Steve Ditko’s “Unmasked by Dr. Octopus!” cover from The Amazing Spider-Man #12. The more I see of these, the more my wallet hurts and I’m beginning to view September through a giddily dreadful delight. These covers will adorn Uncanny Avengers #12 and Mighty Avengers #1, respectively.

I need to call my comic shop.
