“Who Ya Gonna Call?” Ghostbusters Reaches 10,000 Votes On CUUSOO

It would seem that the 80’s are alive and well on CUUSOO and another classic property has achieved status due to a pre-existing niche fan base. Brent Waller’s Ghostbuster’s 30th Anniversary reached 10,000 votes last evening and you might remember that name from his Tumbler that achieved support back in May and still awaits review.

With the Back To The Future set successfully being produced, I’m sure that there is more hope for other licensed properties to go into production as well. If this set does get made, I would gladly grab an Ecto-1 and the gang to keep my DeLorean company, but I think the firehouse is another pipe dream that doesn’t jive with CUUSOO’s established set size. As seems to be the case with CUUSOO, there is another Ghostbuster idea coming up fast behind this one and has a chance of achieving status long before Brent’s gets into review. For the record IF this does end up being produced, I want a Knight Industries Two Thousand and an ’83 GMC Vandura in black and grey, so make it happen CUUSOO.

21103 The DeLorean Time Machine Now Available at Target.com

I don’t know why LEGO had to go and change the name from when it was, Back to the Future Time Machine, announced in the CUUSOO blog post, to what it is now, The DeLorean Time Machine. The first version sounds so much better.

  • [SDCC] How To Buy The Retail Exclusives

    Shut-up-and-take-my-money

Hopefully this info will help someone out as they are changing the process on how to purchase the two retail exclusives.

Last year, it was pretty much first come first serve. You get in line and wait for the booth to start selling the exclusives. It was a waste of time and not very efficient since they would wait about an hour and a half after the exhibit hall opens to start selling. This year they are handling things a little differently. They will be handing out tickets to the first few hundred people that show up on a first come first serve basis. Once you get a ticket, you are eligible to purchase any combination of up to two retail exclusives, the JEK-14 MINI Stealth Starfighter and/or Microscale Bag end. Only those who have a ticket may purchase the sets. There are a total of 1,000 of each set made, and they will be selling 200 each day including today, preview night. You must purchase your set(s) before 4:00pm else they will be for sale to the general public. The price for each set is $39.99.

On a side note, they are also selling the 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine set as an early bird sale exclusively at the LEGO booth here at San Diego Comic Con. Price is $34.99. The official worldwide release date is expected to be August 1.

Review: 21103 Back To The Future Time Machine

I’ve already received flak for expressing my negative reaction to the set. So you should be forewarned that if you were one of those people that were offended by my previous opinion, you should stop reading right now.

Boy, how excited were we when Masashi’s DeLorean model not only garnered the 10,000 votes needed to achieve review status on CUUSOO, but that it was actually approved by everyone that needed to sign off on it? That was a happy day indeed since NO ONE thought it would make it as a set. Months went by between the time that the CUUSOO team announced their decision and recently when leaked images of the set began to surface. LEGO has been sending out kits to media outlets for review purposes and set an embargo time to coincide with San Diego Comic Con Preview Night. Now that the embargo has lifted, I can share with you my opinion and some pictures I took to better give you an idea of what to expect.

Update: since no one else seems to be able to follow directions, I would be doing the site a disservice by not posting images as well. We’ll see how the rest of the weekend goes.

The rumors are true! LEGO has just announced that they will be producing two additional sets to complement their phenomenally popular CUUSOO set, 21102 LEGO Minecraft: The Village and The Nether. They are designed the same way as the original set where you can split the model into four separate sections and reconfigure them any way you want. They will be available starting September 1 and will cost $34.99 each. FBTB will be posting pictures as soon as humanly possible once they are revealed at the show. Official press release below.

  • Lars’ DeLorean

    DeLorean Open Door

It’s been a while since we’ve featured a MOC from Larry Lars so I’m more than thrilled to be reporting on this one. I was linked to his teaser shots before the weekend and now it seems he’s completed his own Back To The Future DeLorean Time Machine. He has nailed the look at an almost impossible scale. There are tons of details that make you wish there were more than the four pictures in his photostream. All that’s missing is some of the sweet printed tiles of the dashboard and the flux capacitor from the upcoming official LEGO CUUSOO set to make it, in my opinion, one of if not the best DeLorean MOCs out there. If he decides to make a kit, sign me up. Heck, I’d take even just the instructions and source the parts myself to recreate this bad boy. I’d love to do a side by side comparison with 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine when it’s finally released in mid-July.

But the model still looks like crap.

UK-based Brick News has gotten a hold of what appears to be an internal document detailing talking points and showing the complete set of 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine. It does indeed include Marty McFly and Doc Brown and a skateboard. No sign of Einstein however. The document makes a point that a user can customize the time machine into one of three models based on the three versions of the vehicle from the three different movies. There is also a small thumbnail of the packaging and a picture of the dashboard showing the travel dates. Brick News is also reporting that the UK price of the 21103 is set at £34.99. Still no word on a US price. The set is scheduled to go on sale on July 18.

And if you’re like me and everyone else who’s laid eyes on the set and wish it looked more like source material, Masashi, who created the original Back to the Future LEGO CUUSOO project, has another project of a UCS-type, remote control, power functions DeLorean.
