  • 30215 Legolas Greenleaf Available With The Hobbit: TDOS

30215 Legolas Greenleaf Available With The Hobbit: TDOS

No word on where this exclusive will pop up as Target already has this fancy collector’s set with dwarven bookends up for pre-order, for those who’ve had enough Legolas or just really need more nerdy bookends…

They could still have this exclusive as well, since the collector’s edition boxed sets are usually widely available (I got my LOTR bookends with extended edition at Blockbuster on heavy clearance). We’ll let you know when we get more info.

  • The LEGO Movie Tops Box Office For Second Week

The LEGO Movie Tops Box Office For Second Week

From the “This Should Surprise No One” news desk, The LEGO Movie holds on to the top spot for the weekend’s box office results going up against romcom About Last Night aiming for the Valentine’s Day weekend push. But we all know the power of the nerd can overcome the romantically inclined. Either that or there are a LOT of single nerds out there. Looking at this upcoming weekend’s scheduled releases, I have no doubt it will again hold the top spot even against another animated film opening this weekend, The Wind Rises, which I will probably go see as I am a fan of Miyazaki’s work but I digress.

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: first Official Trailer

Guardians of the Galaxy: first Official Trailer

Okay, let’s go down the list. Rocket Raccoon? Check. Zoe Saldana in head-to-toe green paint? Check. Absolutely nailing Peter Quill as Star Lord? Check. It’s been an en vogue thing on the nerd-verse blogs to call out Guardians of the Galaxy as the first potential “bomb” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given that it’s a relatively obscure title in the overall mix and set well outside what the other ones have covered. I respond to that with four simple words: Hooked on a Feeling.

Between this trailer and the new set teases, I am absolutely ready for this movie, and all the glory that is Rocket.

  • Toy Fair Report: Oustide the LEGO Booth

Toy Fair Report: Oustide the LEGO Booth

Our coverage of the LEGO releases at Toy Fair wrapped up on Sunday night, and you can view galleries for the new TMNT, The LEGO Movie, Star Wars, X-Men, and Ghostbusters sets that were on display by clicking each of those links. Unfortunately photography was prohibited for the Ninja Turtle movie and Guardians of the Galaxy sets, so that is the extent of the licensed theme news. With limited time and the surprise twist to only allow one reporter per site in the booth this Toy Fair we won’t don’t have galleries for unlicensed themes like we have in prior years. But with the lighter load we decided to walk the floor after the LEGO pre-show and check out what the competition has to offer as well.

  • Xenomurphy’s Battle Above The Bugle

    Xenomurphy’s Battle Above The Bugle

I sat on this one for a couple of days to let Ace’s Toy Fair coverage soak up some much deserved attention, but I can’t stands no more! Xenomurphy is at it again with this gigantic Spider-man themed vig of a battle on the rooftop of the Daily Bugle. The attention to detail and scale is exactly what I’ve come to expect from this builder and as much as I love the custom figs he’s created, the real crown jewel here is his excellent font work.

Spider-Man vs. Vulture - Scarlet Spider FightScarlet Spider 01

He may not have made the custom Scarlet Spider fig himself, but his addition of the painted Wyldstyle hoodie is what sets it apart. The fact that Ben Reilly’s outcast outfit is a favourite of mine goes a long way to me ignoring the custom aspect. Xenomurphy has quickly become one of the builders I anxiously await the next build from.

  • Green Lantern’s Light!

    Green Lantern’s Light!

Fellow chat troll murphquake found this picture of a new Green Lantern keychain light on Entertainment Earth. Could this be a sign of a new fig on the horizon? A set we haven’t yet seen or an upcoming exclusive poly to accompany the remainder of The LEGO Movie releases in June? Who knows, but first Martian Manhunter and now this glimmer of hope for a new GL.
    In brightest day, indeed.

  • New LEGO TMNT Set 79122 Shredder’s Lair Rescue

New LEGO TMNT Set 79122 Shredder’s Lair Rescue

Forum member psycho013 spotted this new set, 79122 Shredder’s Lair Rescue, over at ToysRUs.com. It appears to be a new set that was not part of the showroom floor at Toy Fair, so my best guess is that this is an account exclusive. It’s not up on Shop@Home’s website, but it’ll probably go up when all the other March sets go up. Other than ToysRUs stores, you may be able to find it at LEGO Brand Retail locations.

  • 70810 Metal Beard’s Sea Cow Now Available for VIP Members

70810 Metal Beard’s Sea Cow Now Available for VIP Members

For VIP members, the big ship of the sea, 70810 Metal Beard’s Sea Cow, is now available. You’ll have to be signed into your account for the link to work, but you’ll be one of the first kids on your block to get the set! If you’re not a VIP member or don’t care about its points, you can purchase the set along with the rest of the public starting March 1. Comes with exclusive Seasick Kitty, mini Metal Beard, and an AWESOME pirate ship. I wasn’t digging the set too much, but to be honest, after seeing it in person, I’ve changed my tune. And in case you’re wondering, it comes with three cannons on both sides of the ship. There are fully detailed interiors including the poop deck, captain’s quarters, and the main deck below the main mast. Forget about whatever pre-conceived notion you may have about what a pirate ship should look like, this set is just so much fun. You’ll want to make the sailing noise the ship made from the movie as you vroom it along.

  • Toy Fair Report: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Toy Fair Report: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

A new year, a new crop of LEGO TMNT sets and they were awesome. Even the Michael Bay turtles looked kinda fun if you ignored everything you know and love about the ninja turtles. Before you click through, unfortunately we weren’t able to take any pictures of that line. I can say though that they translate well into LEGO form. They are using different molds for the characters than the ones from the movie. Splinter is re-imagined from the current cartoon. Shredder looks more or less the same. The sets look kind of fun, but like I said, you’ll have to let go of any history you may have of the franchise. Even then, you still have to contend with Michael Bay and we all know what he’s done with Transformers. Me personally, I don’t think I’d get any of the Bay turtles. Anyways, continue on if you wanna see what’s in store for the Nick cartoon license. I’ve added the set names, piece count, and price points for the Bay turtles at the end of the list. Enjoy!
