All Of Rian Johnson’s Answers To Last Jedi’s Questions

Following up on yesterday’s post about The Last Jedi coming to digital/disc release, I thought I’d link to this article on io9 I ran across some time ago. They collected a bunch of answers from various sources that Rian Johnson gave regarding some of the more controversial elements of The Last Jedi. He addresses everything from Leia’s space flight to force projections to Snoke’s backstory or lack thereof. These answers may not be satisfying enough to sufficiently address whatever issues you may or may not have but it does show that Rian did have his reasons for doing what he did. I certainly am not buying the whole Leia using the force to save herself and how it didn’t take much effort because there’s no resistance in space; because when did physics ever become a basis of reality in Star Wars? If you have ten minutes, it’s definitely worth a read and would be a good lead-up to the DVD extras when the movie comes out in a few weeks.

  • Trailer For The Last Jedi Digital/Disc Release

Trailer For The Last Jedi Digital/Disc Release

Lots of spoilers in this one if you haven’t seen the movie yet. And if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you might as well wait til March 13th to get it digitally, or March 27th for Blu-ray/DVD. You can pre-order the digital version of The Last Jedi from Amazon, and since they are a participating retailer of Movies Anywhere, it will show up on all your connected accounts and devices. As far as physical release, Best Buy is once again offering a SteelBook option for both Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD. These also come with a digital copy but physical + digital comes out two weeks later than just straight digital. Target has their exclusive version and, as usual, comes in the form of exclusive content. This time around, there is a small booklet with behind-the-scenes images plus a “Meet the Porgs” featurette. Walmart hasn’t posted any pre-order options for their site. But don’t worry, we’ll be reposting all of this come the 26th ’cause this site needs to make money.

  • Japan Offers Light- And Dark-side Themed Movie Going Experiences For The Last Jedi

Japan Offers Light- And Dark-side Themed Movie Going Experiences For The Last Jedi

Moviegoers in Japan have a unique experience that us Westerners won’t be able to enjoy. Those seeing The Last Jedi in 4DX theaters in Japan can choose either the light side or dark side. Each side has a unique experience tailored to their chose side. In a nut shell, “The vibrations, tilts, wind, fog, strobe and other effects enhance differing aspects of the on-screen action for the light and dark side of the theaters. Light saber battles create differing reverb effects for the two sides, while the atmosphere will differ for scenes on First Order ships and Rebel bases.”

The idea came about between Disney Japan and South Korea’s CJ Group, the company behind the 4DX experience, to offer a unique twist on the film. So far fans have been 50/50 on the experience. It gives fans another reason to see the movie more than once, driving the box office numbers up. The Last Jedi has earned $55 million so far in the small country, outperforming even China’s larger market. Unfortunately, there are no plans on bringing the light- and dark-side experiences anywhere else outside of Japan.

I know there are 4DX theaters here in L.A. I’ve never been but I hear they have seats that vibrate and tilt. That bit about the fog, though? That’s news to me. It all sounds like an old Kentucky Fried Movie bit.

  • The Last Jedi Tickets Go On Sale Tomorrow, New Trailer Too

The Last Jedi Tickets Go On Sale Tomorrow, New Trailer Too

Disney announced that tickets for The Last Jedi will go on sale tomorrow Monday October 9th. I’ll come back to this in a second.

And in somewhat related news, StarWars.com announced a new trailer will be released tomorrow as well. It will debut during Monday Night Football game where the Minnesota Vikings play against the Chicago Bears on ESPN. I’m going to guess that it will be during half time.

Now, back to the ticket thing. No specific time was announced for ticket sales, but according to this CNET article, Fandango hinted that the tickets would go on sale on Monday night. So I’m guessing that The Last Jedi tickets will go on sale during or right after the trailer airs.
