Poll Time! Week 13’s Set of the Week

It’s time to vote! But first…

    Last Week’s Winner

As much as I disliked Episode I, it did give us this beauty. Elegant and sleek, fitting for the kingdom of Naboo. A proper mini all chromed out would be just fabulous, but light grey is nice too.

    This Week’s Candidates

Polybag Set of the Week: Week 13

Pick your favorite set of the week for March 28th through April 1st.

    The poll has closed!

Remember, You Can Win Every Polybag I Review

I’ll be raffling every polybag I review this year in one big lot, all 260 sets (with the possibility of more). Each set will be individually bagged in a ziploc baggie complete with extra pieces, instructions, and the polybag wrapper it came in. The cost of a raffle ticket is just $1 USD and you can enter as many times as you want. Send a PayPal payment to paypal@fbtb.net for $1 USD for every ticket you want to purchase. DO NOT send one payment for multiple entries i.e. do not send one $5 USD payment for five tickets; five $1 USD payments must be made instead. Raffle is open to everyone in the world except where raffles are illegal. Be sure to put “POLYBAG RAFFLE” in the notes section of the payment in order to be entered successfully. Winner will be drawn sometime early January 2023 and contacted at the PayPal email address the payment was sent from to arrange for delivery. For a running list of all the sets that you can win, check this Google spreadsheet.

  • A Year of Polybags 63/260: 30301 Batwing Review

A Year of Polybags 63/260: 30301 Batwing Review

My first exposure to a Batwing that’s shaped like a bat was from the 1989 Batman movie with Michael Keaton. When it broke through the clouds and rose up to be silhouetted by the moon, my adolescent self thought it was so cool. I don’t know if that was the first time a Batwing was shaped like a bat or if it was traditionally always that way, but since then I don’t think a Batwing could ever not be shaped like a bat anymore. Case in point: today’s polybag 30301 Batwing.

I’m fairly certain that it is not based on an existing set, nor based on any other real life source. It’s a Batwing and because of that, it has to follow the design paradigm of being a Batwing. Hold it up, dare I say against a full moon, and you can see the bat shape thanks to a copious amount of wedge plates.

It’s in its signature black and yellow color scheme. There’s a smattering of light grey. A flame element in the back denotes the jet engine’s exhaust. This is the only part that bugs me. The yellow plate with pin hole sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise sleek model.

A pair of proton torpedoes flick fire missiles adorn the bottom. And that’s pretty much it.

Does It Suck or Does It Rock?

This set rocks! Admittedly, this isn’t much of a review. But the bar is kind of low with this kind of set. Does it look like a Batwing? Is it mostly black? Is it swooshable? And that’s pretty much it. This set ticks all those boxes and other than that eyesore yellow plate sticking out the back, there’s nothing to detract from the very Batwing-ness of the set. So yeah, thumbs up it gets.

    Sponsorship

There’s no sponsor this week, and with sponsorships lasting a whole week, you can get plenty of exposure for mere pennies. Pennies I say! Want to sponsor a review? Send me a message to admin@fbtb.net or hit me up on discord of the polybag set you have that you want me to review. If selected, in exchange for the set you’ll get a mention right here in the review post and a link to your website or social media account or just about anything else.. Nearly free advertising, so what’s stopping you?

  • 30301 Batwing Polybag Now Available at Target

30301 Batwing Polybag Now Available at Target

Was strolling through the seasonal section, which is set for Halloween, at Target and ran across a bunch of these Batwing polybag sets. As far as minis go, this one ain’t too bad. The yellow 2×2 plate with Technic pinhole and the light grey cone making up the jet engine is a bit of an eyesore but those could easily be swapped out for black for a more Batman-esque look. It’s a great little poly bag and worth the $3.99 price tag. Leagues better than that awful 30300 Tumbler. And there you have our 10 second review.

On a related note, Target is also the place where you could pre-order LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and receive this very same polybag as your bonus. And here they are just selling the darn things. Not that it really matters; I imagine most AFOLS would have pre-ordered from Gamestop to get Plastic Man.

Thanks to ninnymuggins for the heads up.

  • LEGO Plastic Man Revealed for LEGO Batman 3 Gamestop Pre-order Bonus

LEGO Plastic Man Revealed for LEGO Batman 3 Gamestop Pre-order Bonus

Today, Comic Vine has revealed the retailer exclusive bonuses for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. To save you a click, here it is a in a nutshell:

    • Gamestop will get the above-pictured Plastic Man.
    • Everyone else gets something that sucks more than Plastic Man.

And that’s all you really need to know. But if you’re still interested in knowing what the others are getting:

Here’s a link to LEGO Batman 3 on Gamestop. The game will be out on all current generation systems, including PS3 and XBox 360 but not for the Wii. Gamestop says the release date is 12/31/2014, but that is always subject to change.

Thanks go to Jason for the heads up.

For those of you north of the border go check your Toys’R’Us stores. Chat room resident CloneEmperor sent in the above pic of 30301 Batwing found at his local store. No word yet on US availability that I know of, but typically things found at Canadian TRU stores end up at US Walmart stores. We’ll post again once we get a verified US siting.
