[Toy Fair 2017] Star Wars

Several LEGO Star Wars sets on display. Several of these will be available in a couple of weeks on March 1st, with the rest showing up June 1st. See the set pictures below the fold! One note, the Advent Calendar is at the end, so if you don’t want to see what they phoned in this year, watch your scrolling.

75172 Y-Wing Starfighter (SRP $59.99, 691 pieces)

A somewhat shocking price tag for the set, and a good collection of minifigures. The last couple of designs for this have been a bit lackluster in my book, and this one has taken on reshaping the cockpit and nose, so it’s looking good. Remains to be seen if they fixed that top blaster section. Surprising that it comes in at $60, given the piece count. Guess they’re not charging extra for greebling here.

 

75171 Battle on Scarif (SRP $49.99, 419 Pieces)

When I first saw the picture for this set, I assumed it was a small battle set / battle pack sort of thing. Then I saw the piece count, the fact that it includes two characters that weren’t part of the battle outside, and I’m left to wonder if the LEGO set designers even saw Rogue One. Maybe there’s something amazing tucked away in here, but this set just serves to remind me that I haven’t bought any Rogue One sets yet… and likely won’t for some time.

Some snarky joke about how most “battles” include more than three people.

75165 Imperial Trooper Battle Pack (SRP $14.99, 112 pieces)

Also very welcome… you can’t have too many stormtroopers. Could have done without the walker through… the communicator array, battlefield debris, or a gun emplacement would have all been better.

Fun fact… on the page where we sign up / assign out reviews, I have a standing threat towards Ace if he tries to nab this one. Thrawn is MINE! In all his blue goodness.

I always like getting TIE pilots.

I’d make a joke about Episode I here, but this scene was the best in the movie. This set… doesn’t look worthy of it.

75182 Republic Fighter Tank (SRP $24.99, 305 Pieces)

In my head, I play out that the designers are pitching some new sets or asking to redo things like the Episode II Bounty Hunter set, and LEGO just comes back with “Can’t we just re-release one of the old sets fans didn’t like the first time? Maybe this time it’ll stick.” Price tag seems good, though.

75180 Rathar Escape (SRP $79.99, 836 pieces)

I stand corrected from one of my assumptions in the Force Awakens Falcon set… we are getting another old Han figure. Does fill in a couple of gaps of completely forgettable characters in a forgettable scene from Force Awakens, though.

 

75178 Jakku Quadjumper (SRP $49.99, 457 pieces)

I hope this guy wasn’t in the ship when it got blown up. How is it that we are getting a set for a ship that was on the screen for nearly six seconds, we’ve gotten more than one version of the Skyhopper… and yet Cloud City and the Bounty Hunter Chase speeders have never gotten a remake? Were people honestly clamoring for this ship?
