  • Toy Fair 2014!

    Toy Fair 2014!

The American International Toy Fair is coming up next week and as usual FBTB will be in attendance. I eagerly await the invitation that is in the mail as I type this to show up on my doorstep. Unfortunately, we are only allowed one attendee this year so our coverage will be limited. We plan on focusing on licensed brands first (Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Super Heroes, The LEGO Movie, etc.) and then all other themes second. Our coverage begins on the morning of Sunday February 16!

  • Amazon Discounts 79104 The Shellraiser Street Chase

Amazon Discounts 79104 The Shellraiser Street Chase

Have you seen just the raw vomit that is Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? I won’t post the images here for 1) once seen, cannot be unseen, and 2) I don’t want to sully the homepage. Rebel against the overbloated ego that is Bay and his ability to rend franchises into oblivion and treat yourself to some Nickelodeon TMNT toys. Amazon is currently discounting 79104 The Shellraiser Street Chase by 25%, bringing the asking price down to $44.99 before any tax if applicable. Set will ship for free. Granted it’s probably the worst set out of the current line, but it’s leagues better than anything Bay will do with the movie.

  • The LEGO Movie Minifigure Stand

    The LEGO Movie Minifigure Stand

This past weekend, The Skirball Cultural Center hosted a LEGO event simply called LEGO Day and LUGOLA was invited to participate! Warner Bros. sent over a care package full of Movie-related goodies for the attendees and included in the lot were a handful of the promotional tins that given away to Willy Wonka-style Golden Ticket holders. They also gave away some bare bones Movie Collectible Minifigs but what they lacked in accessories they made up for with minifig stands printed with the movie logo. Nice! Now to just get my hands on 16 of them….

  • The LEGO Movie Number 1 For Weekend Box Office

The LEGO Movie Number 1 For Weekend Box Office

Unsurprisingly, The LEGO Movie dominated the weekend’s box office earning $69.1 million domestically with The Monuments Men, also debuting this weekend, coming in a distant second at $22.7 million. Internationally, it opened in a modest third place, opening mostly in Latin America, earning just $18.4 million estimated, with Disney’s Frozen taking top spot at $24 million thanks to opening in China.

The LEGO Movie cost Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow just $60 million to make and, also unsurprisingly, talks have already begun on a sequel. It can’t come fast enough.

The film is rated at 95% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing. We will be publishing our own reviews shortly.

Flickr user SunlitEquinox debuted her work-in-progress Wyldstyle cosplay. She plans on doing the pants and shoes as well. I can’t wait to see the final outfit.

Thanks to Tohst for the linkage.

  • LEGO Shop@Home Promotions For February

    LEGO Shop@Home Promotions For February

No doubt this has been the week of The LEGO Movie news. And it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop any time soon. LEGO Shop@Home is celebrating the release of the movie (and let’s not forget the video game) with a special promo for the month of February polybag set. Get 30280 The Piece of Resistance with any purchase of $50 or more. They really should lower that requirement by a dollar. What if all I wanted to get was The LEGO Movie Videogame for the Wii U? Or 70802 Bad Cop’s Pursuit and 70803 Cloud Cuckoo Palace? I would be pennies short from getting the promo set. Tsk tsk, LEGO! Free shipping if your order hits $75 or more. And VIP points. And, and… I think that’s it. Deal is good from now until February 28th or while supplies last.

  • LEGO Star Wars 2014 Sets Available February 17

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Sets Available February 17

Chat room regular ninnymuggins pointed out that LEGO Shop@Home has updated their Star Wars page with a release date for all of their new sets for 2014. Finally, after the sets have been widely available in other parts of the world, North America can join in on the fun. If you’re tenacious enough you may be able to find them at the big box retailers as it’s pretty common knowledge that sets can find their way onto the shelves before the street date. • Another Emmet Promo Figure

    Another Emmet Promo Figure

We’ve seen the mustachioed Western Emmet as the GameSpot pre-order for The LEGO Movie Videogame, but if you’d rather catch him in his pajamas with a wink expression (’cause who wouldn’t), you’re in luck! Regal Cinemas are offering this minifigure as a bonus if you go see the movie at their theater in 3D. Hopefully Emmet will still be sporting his cowlick hair piece that I’ve grown to love.

Thanks to othertoe for the info.
