Today’s set, 30528 Mini Master-Building MetalBeard, comes from The LEGO Movie 2, and is a bit too esoteric for me mainly because I haven’t watched the source material. I do know that MetalBeard was more or less just a head and anything it wanted as body. He was never actually portrayed in minifig form in either movie. This polybag is probably the closest thing we will ever get. But even better!
Instead of two legs, it’s got four. And for additional mobility, there’s a handy wheel on the bottom. He’s like he is his own Heelys.
He’s got two arms.
And a tail! The tail can hold a battle standard at the end of it.
His head is forward mounted and sports his pirate’s hat.
And the awesomeness doesn’t stop there. This is actually a 3-in-1 model where you can also build, from the looks of it, a tricycle with arms and a small boat. The only bad thing is that the instructions for those two alt models aren’t included on the instruction sheet. You’ll have to go to LEGO.com to get the PDF. But you can probably just mash the pieces together yourself without the instructions and build the alt models.
Does It Suck or Does It Rock?
This set rocks! MetalBeard was one of the more memorable characters from the two LEGO movies. Who doesn’t love a pirate? or Nick Offerman? Plus, his myriad forms makes him stand out as the most customizable characters ever. Just stick his head, hat + metalbeard element onto anything brown and you got a new form. There have been a few polybags that featured alternate models, but unlike the other ones we’ve reviewed before, 30528 Mini Master-Building MetalBeard doesn’t suck.
