So another year, and mostly the same format: Ace handling Star Wars, Eric looking at Harry Potter, and in a shocking turn of events, Nick not having to deal with a Marvel calendar dedicated to causing physical pain – he’ll be handling City this year because while his kids may be into Minecraft he decidedly is not (and also that thing was impossible to find in his area). As always, there will be some extra special bonuses, a lot of cheeky writing, tons of typos and things we miss that someone will demand we go and hire an editor to fix.
We will not do that.
Ace (Star Wars) – 3 Hit / 8 Misses
Eric (Harry Potter) – 7 Hits / 3 Misses / 1 Harry Potter
Nick (City) – 11 Hits / 1 Miss
Nick (Star Wars) – 1 Hit / 11 Misses
Ace
This is uh… from something. It’s a single piece, like Bobby Fart from Day 1. I didn’t bother taking it out of the bag. Because if LEGO can’t be bothered to put an actual build in a building toy advent calendar day, why should I bother unwrapping this turd of a “gift”.
Eric – Harry Potter
As you can see from the label, this is a bottle of Polyjuice Potion. And A0045, whatever that means. I absolutely see what they’re going for here, but it doesn’t read very well to me. The studs of the 2×2 round bricks interrupt the clean line you need to sell “bottle with liquid in it” and it ends up messy. Not their best.
Nick – City and Star Wars and Adorable Stuff
I think we’ve finally found our second letdown of the City calendar. I mean, this is more or less what we got with the scooter a few days ago, but skateboards have been so… common in things the last decade or so. This is the same as the Bart Simpson skateboard, sans the stripe, and they could have done something to jazz it up a bit. A different color, some printing, or something. So going to say this is a miss and wait for it to pick right back up.
You know, BD-1 was the best thing about the Jedi Survivor games. The BD droids are cute and work so well in the game… it even got a short crossover in Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett, showing up Peli Motto’s shop (she still absolutely should have been in this calendar). But… this is just lame as a thing to open and get in the calendar. Much like Frick, it’s just a let down to see this is all you’re getting. The Star Wars calendar I think has already broken the Marvel calendar’s Suckitude record, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to let up any time soon.
After yesterday’s magnifying glass, the mini brands are right back to it with Pupsi Soda. Which I assume tastes better than actual Pepsi Soda. Okay, I kid… sort of. I actually drank Pepsi Zero pretty regularly, because it was a flavor I could get in my SodaStream. But I don’t drink anything with carbonation anymore… or with caffeine… or with sugar…. or even alcohol. In short, I live a miserable and boring life.
