Better late than never!

This has been a quiet year for the site… for some documented reasons for some that will probably be documented later on in this whole thing. But we’ve all been looking forward to doing the Advents, our yearly tradition that still happens to be a thing despite the fact that the internet is dead and it’s just bots talking to bots now. Beep boop.

Originally, we were going to mix it up this year but… things didn’t work out. Scalpers went hard in Dallas and the Star Wars Advent disappeared within a few days and never came back in stock, so Nick’s plan to do the Star Wars calendar fell through. We’re going to go with it just being the universe punishing him by making him do the Marvel Advent yet again. Something that just might finish him off this time.

We’re also going to do the newer tradition of going with non-LEGO calendars, because Advents are the new socks are the new ugly sweaters are the new yearly ornaments. Okay, that joke got away, but the point is that everything has an advent now.

Even Rocks.

That’s a hint, LEGO… bring back Rock Raiders. The world needs them now more than ever.

The scores so far:

  • Star Wars: 3 Hits / 1 Misses
  • Disney: 3 Hits / 1 Miss
  • Marvel: 0 Hit / 4 Misses

Ace: Star Wars Day 5

An AT-AT! If you squint, it works. It really needs the knee articulation though but that would end up increasing the bulkiness of the legs and increase the piece count. The element choice makes the head highly poseable: it can look left and right, up and down, and even tilt. Because of that and the rest of the body being pretty accurate given its size, I’ll give it a thumbs up. Oddly enough, today’s build didn’t come with the amount of extra pieces you’d think it would come with.

On the Disney side, today’s princess is….

Okay, I was wrong. I thought we’d get another princess today but we get the chance tool. I’m guessing each person takes a turn spinning the chance tool and whatever colored tile that lands face up is the colored tile you move to on the board. If I was smart I’d include a picture of the board but I’ll get to it when I feel like an actual game can be played. Right now we just have a chance tool, some princesses, and a micro vignette of their home. I’m hoping one of the upcoming advent days will give us a rule book.

Eric: Disney Day 5 (and Hot Sauces)

I am doing the LEGO Disney Advent Calendar this year. I am not in the target demographic for this advent calendar, and that is okay. I am also eating a hot wing every day, tossed in one of 24 random hot sauces. Enjoy my pain.

WATCH ME EAT AND BUILD THIS ON TIKTOK

Every year, LEGO hamfists some little game into an advent calendar. I have never played one and I never plan to. And every year, one build is dedicated to a dice, or a spinner, or wheel, or some kind of thing to play the game. So that’s today: a four-sided spinner with yellow, green, pink, and blue sides. And maybe I’m just bad at spinning things, but it feels really bad to spin on that stud. However, in the video I ranked this thing a 5/5, so I have to stand by myself.

Yet the sauce was somehow worse: JALAPENO HOT SAUCE. Jalapenos are hot. I know this. I ate one yesterday and I was hiccupping, burping, crying, snotting, etc. But this? Nothing. The acid burned my lips more than the heat burned my tongue.

LEGO Day 5: 5/5

HOT SAUCE Day 5: 1/5

Nick: Marvel Day 6 (and Rocks and Dice)

You know, given that the Venom movies are basically Rom Coms with explosions, putting Venom in a kicky winter scarf works. Just don’t ask what the sausage is made from. It only took five days, but we finally got a hit from this pile of Thor: The Dark World calendar.

Now though, I want a Venom movie that’s basically just a Hallmark Christmas movie.

Look, all I’m saying is that this would be better than anything else that Sony has planned. Better than Madame Web, better than Kraven is going to be, and certainly better than Morbius was.

This might very well be one of the ugliest dice I’ve ever seen. The mix of orange and way too much white, along with gold lettering is just… ugh. Numbers on white dice will always seem inherently wrong. Your brain just wants there to be pips.

Okay, yesterday’s rock was a mystery at first, but this one is just a big ???. My first guess would be quartz, but that’d make it the cloudiest quartz that I’ve ever seen. It has the powdery texture that you get with Limestone, otherwise known as the state flower of Missouri. And also just a crappy rock to do anything with. Nothing remotely like it is on the guide that came with the box.

So this is just going to be that quality you get with the revamped Rock Raiders set, since LEGO quality has been slipping for years anyway.
