LEGO Star Wars: The Quest For R2-D2 Game Online

Looking for something to do over the weekend? Well, if you’ve been living under a rock, or, if you’re like me, have a computer barely capable of playing Youtube videos without skipping or decides to go into sleep mode randomly on its own, you may be interested in a browser-based LEGO Star Wars web game, The Quest For R2-D2. I myself have yet to play it but by all accounts, it’s a hit. Gameplay is very similar to the LEGO Star Wars games on the consoles and PC, so it will feel familiar all over again.

As a bonus, once you play through the game, you’ll be able to unlock instructions for the Malevolence. However, if you need a set listing that comprises the model you can take a look at this forum thread: Malevolence Model – What Kits Are Needed?.

The game requires the Unity plugin to play. So after a short download and install, you’ll be hacking and slashing your way through the game in no time. It’s pretty amazing what the plugin is able to deliver considering you’re playing the game on a web browser. The last time I was this impressed with a web game was for Quake Live. For more information on the game’s development, you may be interseted in reading this article on Unity.

  • Review: LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary

I received my order for LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary from Amazon.com yesterday. Sadly, this is probably the first book I’ve read since college.

R2-D2 Minifig Brickmodder’ed With Lights and Sound

Rob over at Brickmodder Labs is a master at lighting up minifigs. He was the one responsible for my light-up chrome C-3PO fig. I always knew he was able to do an R2-D2 minifig, but he decided to take it one step further. By taking the sound and light components from a Hasbro action figure, he modded the circuit board and cut it down to size to fit inside an R2 minifig body to create the world’s first minifig with sound. For more information and a video, check out the Brickmodder Labs Blogology post: R2-D2 minifig with lights and sound . And just to answer everyone’s questions up front: no, he is not selling his fig; and he has no plans on mass producing it either.

    Review: 7754 Home One

Now that it’s out of the way, I promise that I will not use that absurdly over-used line from Ackbar. This set has a special place in Star Wars lore, because we helped to contribute to the ideas. That’s right, FBTB, me, you (well, not you over there eating paste), the community, we all helped give ideas towards this set. Okay, I’ll admit, this was my second choice (I wanted the Senate arrest and the glorious jedi that would come with it), but it’s still a nifty set.

[US] Target Stores 10% on New Star Wars

Thanks to forum member theDude for the heads up on this one…

Both online and in-store this week beginning Sunday (today), all LEGO Star Wars is 10% off. While this isn’t much, it includes all the new Star Wars from the Fall launch, so for those of you (like me) who can’t patiently wait for the clearances, this is a nice little savings. It is also a cheaper way to get your grubby hands on a Republic Fighter or Pirate Tank, the hard to find Target exclusives that history tells us will not make it to clearance before sell-out.

Search “Star Wars LEGO” on the target website or go in-store today!

Thanks to super sleuthy der-soer from our forums, he’s found some listings on Amazon.de for some 2010 sets:

Thanks also to Joedward for the heads up.

Update: More digging reveals the following:

I for one cannot wait for the TIE Defender, as that is my favorite TIE ship. Looks like 2010 is off to a pretty good start.

  • 7778 Midi-scale Millennium Falcon Now Available At S@H

7778 Midi-scale Millennium Falcon Now Available At S@H

Have you ever wanted a LEGO Millennium Falcon but could never afford the $99 price tag, or worse, the $499 price tag for the Ultimate Collector Series incarnation? Well, if you’ve been waiting anxiously for the Midi-scale Falcon, nows your chance to buy it. It is now listed at LEGO Shop@Home for the princely sum of $39.99 (plus tax and shipping). If you’re a Brickmaster member, this would be a perfect opportunity to use one of those $5 coupons to offset the cost a bit.

This set’s gotten its fair share of jeers and cheers, mostly jeers from those that say they just don’t understand why a new scale is being introduced. I for one think it’s a brilliant model. The price point makes it accessible to just about anyone from little Timmy saving up a few weeks allowance to the Grandma trying to pick out a gift for her 35 year old, cubicle-environment working grandson and everyone in between. The size makes it perfect for display on an office desk, cubicle shelf, or fireplace mantle. Hopefully, LEGO will continue with this scale, and if they do, I have four words of advice: needs more capital starships.

I saw the Tantive IV set today in person. It is pretty small and dinky. I was hoping for a larger set with a hallway to recreate the iconic opening battle scene in ANH, but alas, it was not meant to be. Still, for such a small model, it’s pretty detailed. You can view the 10198 Tantive IV flickr set here. Some highlights below:

By the way, the cones are trans-clear elements with printed surfaces.
