A Year of Polybags 215/260: 30391 Rapunzel’s Lantern Boat Review

There is one major deficiency to today’s set, 30391 Rapunzel’s Lantern Boat, and that is the absence of Flynn Rider.

Of course, the source material that inspired this set may not be from the Tangled movie but could be from any of the other animated features available on Disney+. Searching for “Tangled” you’re served 5 titles with the word “Tangled” in it. I’m not about to go through all of them to see if I’m right, so let’s just assume this is from the main movie.

Now, like I said in the beginning, this set is missing Flynn Rider. That’s the biggest knock against this set. Sure I could point out that at no point in the movie is Rapunzel ever left alone on boat with Pascal.

Nor is the boat decked out with flowers. This set seems to take some cues from the Friends polybag design language which is plastering a thing with flowers because LEGO seems to think girls like flowers everywhere, even in places where it doesn’t make sense.

And there certainly wasn’t a dedicated storage area for a hairbrush. None of these things are true about the source material. Sure I could point out all these negatives and slap a thumbs down on this thing and call it day but you know what, this is actually a nice set.

There is no doubt in my mind that any fan of Tangled also liked Pascal. And out of all the scenes from the movie, having them both on a boat makes the most sense. It’s a complete scene with the main character and her pet. And plus, no LOOSE THINGS. My only legit complaint would be that I’m not a fan of the way the lantern is affixed to the front:

One slight nudge can easily misalign it but at least it’s not loose.

Does It Suck or Does It Rock?

Having Flynn Rider included in this already excellent set would have dramatically increased its value but alas, young teens will have to re-enact the kissing scene some other way.

    Sponsorship

There’s no sponsor this week, and with sponsorships lasting a whole week, you can get plenty of exposure for mere pennies. Pennies I say! Want to sponsor a review? Send me a message to admin@fbtb.net or hit me up on discord of the polybag set you have that you want me to review. If selected, in exchange for the set you’ll get a mention right here in the review post and a link to your website or social media account or just about anything else.. Nearly free advertising, so what’s stopping you?

You Can Win This And Every Other Polybag I Review This Year

I’ll be raffling every polybag I review this year in one big lot, all 260 sets (with the possibility of more). Each set will be individually stored in a ziploc baggie complete with the extra pieces, instructions, and the actual polybag bag it came in. The cost of a raffle ticket is just $1 USD and you can enter as many times as you want. Send a PayPal payment to paypal@fbtb.net for $1 USD for every ticket you want to purchase. DO NOT send one payment for multiple entries i.e. do not send one $5 USD payment for five tickets; five $1 USD payments must be made instead. Raffle is open to everyone in the world except where raffles are illegal. Be sure to put “POLYBAG RAFFLE” in the notes section of the payment in order to be entered successfully. Winner will be drawn sometime sometime in the second half of 2023 and contacted at the PayPal email address the payment was sent from to arrange for delivery. [Toy Fair 2017] Disney Princess

It seems strange that, given the near bottomless depths of the Disney Princess line in general, that we are already revisiting some of the initial sets… but luckily they were two good sets, and both have some real improvements. I always welcome more gold parts entering the market.

I’m actually okay with this set showing up again. When I bought it the first time, it got parted out for the gold wheels. This time, it’ll be something for my daughter and I to build together, and then her immediately breaking it down to try and put a rocket on it. It makes an AFOL dad proud…

41145 Ariel and the Magical Spell (SRP $29.99, 222 parts)

So, a confession. The Little Mermaid is far and away my favorite Disney movie. I have all of the songs memorized, as well as the lines in general. And, with that framing… WHY DOES URSULA LOOK LIKE THIS! WHY! I’m glad a proper version of her was in the Disney line, but now I’ll need to buy an extra to sneak into the set when I pick this one up for us to share.

    Disney Princess Sets Now Available

Heartlake Friends is reporting that Shop@Home is now selling the entire Friends Disney Princess line. The theme page and links leading to it are currently dead, but the individual product pages are up and running. If you prefer ordering from Amazon, there are some links to their individual product pages below as well. All sets are marked as “pre-order” for January 1, 2014 availability except for 41053 Cinderella’s Dream Carriage, but that might be because third party sellers are trying to cash in on the early hype so the price and availability should correct itself come the morning. Links and prices are below.

    LEGO Reveals Disney Princesses Line

I forget which came first, Friends or the Disney Princesses Duplo line, but at some point I said to myself, “Self, it’s just a matter of time before there’s a Disney Friends line.” Lo and behold, here we are with some pictures of LEGO Disney Princesses. There are six initial sets to be had with what I can only assume is a release date of January 2014. Cinderella and Ariel have doubled up, but we do get newcomers Merida and Rapunzel each with one set. And if Rapunzel doesn’t have some sort of new, super-long hair element I’m crying foul.
