6863 Batwing Battle over Gotham City Now Available

It's with great hesitancy that I report this bit of sales news, but Toys'R'US online now has 6863 Batwing Battle over Gotham City available for shipping. It's also labeled as available in stores as well, so you may get lucky there. The price? $39.99 for 278 pieces, which may or may not include TRU's HPG (holiday price gouge). I suppose it's great if you really want something new to put under the tree but the price is hard to swallow. I would rather wait to see what the actual MSRP is once LEGO puts the set on sale. Hopefully, it will be soon.

I'm pretty sure the $39.99 price tag is MSRP and the TRU gouge price is $49.99, which is not yet in effect.

It was pegged at $29.99 in most of the rumors, but maybe that was wishful thinking. Hopefully it'll be up on Lego.com soon.

After seeing this I called my buddy who works for Lego and ask about pricing for this set and he told me msrp is 39.99 usd.

I have verified the Canadian MSRP is 44.99 so it looks like the USA prices are moving up, rather than Canadian prices moving down.

Hmmm, at $45 Canadian it may be worth picking up for the parts and figs when it hits 20% off of course. Unfortunately there's not a set in this first batch I'd buy for the design. Sad that, I'm more interested in the new Ninjago sets than these.

May have to turn in my comic book nerd membership card...

Yeah, barely worth $29.99, let alone $39.99. This doesn't bode well for the rest of the series. Hopefully they won't all be atrociously overpriced. It does look like there's a price hike across the board. The Dino and City 2012 sets are on the low end of the value spectrum too. Makes sense I guess for licensed themes to be even higher.

i don't think it's just me -- all of these batman-based superhero sets look like 2nd rate retreads from the original batman line. i may get a couple of the other hero sets, but as far as i'm concerned, the batman sets are doa.

Same here, at the TRU in San Mateo, CA. They also had the Joker "action figure" for the same $17.99.

So the two cheap sets have the TRU markup, but the Batmobile set does not. Given the number of parts in the Batwing set, maybe MSRP will be $29.99? The prices on the other sets are quite good--both the Batmobile and Superman sets are just under 10 cents per piece.
