So Don,

How about this one from Disneyland? I had to pick it up just because of the Star Tours 'tips'.

Oh, and it also does the canned R2 'shot by a Jawa' sounds...if that makes sense.

Here's the thing spinning...

Well that's just silly. Does the dome spin around and light up? (Like it would do anything else...)

It's not silly.... :'( ...you're silly....

Anywho, it does make the R2 'screaming/scared' sounds while it's spinning.

Now that I'm thinking about it after you mentioned the sounds, I think that might have been in the gift shop the last time I went to DL. They have all kinds of those light up spinners in the park for various themes so I'm not too sure.

Yeah, that's been around for a few years. A little on the silly side for me. Meanwhile, my sister came back from Disneyland a few weeks ago with one of these for me and I thought it was awesome, so go figure.

One of my Latin teachers back in highschool used to have an R2-D2 electronic dice machine. He'd use it to randomly pick a student to translate the next sentence/paragraph/section/whatever for a quiz grade. Occasionally, he would let one of the students push the button on top, but never let us see the numbers it spat out. We figured it was just a conspiracy, and he already knew who he wanted to call on. But at least the R2-D2 made noises.

Seeing this thread made me want to find out what the deal with it was. Turns out, it actually was an electronic dice R2-D2:

Pretty sure you're talking about the Star Wars Trivial Pursuit randomizer but linked to the new x-box console by mistake. It was about 4 inches tall if I remember (mine's in storage right now) that acted as the die in that game and made sounds. Only went from 1 to 6 though. Had a little LCD screen on the front. Sound about right?

Did you land one of these at the opening of the new Star Tours ride? Word on the street was there were only 5,000 produced and were kept under lock and key at participating park restaurants. . .

Love the R2 ears, btw. Got some for myself on our family vacation earlier this summer.

Upon further investigation, sure enough. Congratulations on solving one of my (semi-)childhood mysteries! Haha

Edit:

Oh, Lord. I was browsing the thread, skimming to see if anyone had posted it yet, and I came across the upcoming R2D2-themed 360/Kinect. Must have copied that link address, then pasted it into my post absent-mindedly.
Here's the link I *meant* to post:

And, with just a little further exploration, I found a link that ties the above piece directly to the SW Trivial Pursuit. Whoops ^_^

It feels like it should come with a blue beanie to complete the outfit...
