It might just be me (it usually is), but shouldn't sent PMs go to the sent folder?

Actually, it just seems that "outbox" and "sent" are redundant; it seems to me there should be one or the other and an "unsent" or "saved" folder.

It stays in "outbox" till the recipient opened it. Then it goes into "Sent".
So you can see when your PM is read.

Yes. What Andi said. Your PM isn't really sent until the other person receives it - until then you can find it in your outbox and edit or delete it. It does not work like email where as soon as you click send it's out of your hands. Unsent messages would be under "Manage PM drafts" (so long as you didn't discard them) and any saved messages would be in whichever folder you set up and save them to. Get it?
