LEGO Announces 10223 Horizon Express

Ya know, I’m not THAT into trains but I do appreciate their place in our hobby. Every now and then, LEGO puts out a set that catches my eye and makes me sit up and take notice. Their latest offering of 10233 Horizon Express does just that. Officially unveiled today at LEGO Fan Weekend in Denmark, this set boasts 1,351 pieces and will only set you back $129 USD when it goes up for sale at Shop@Home in January of 2013. Pictures below, official press release below that:

Review: 10227 B-wing Starfighter

10227 B-wing Starfighter Review - 1

The B-wing fighter is one of the last few remaining original trilogy and one of my favorites. I don’t think there are many space ships in science fiction that boasts a design where the ship revolves around the cockpit. It sounds completely off the wall and wholly unnecessary considering the size and shape of the ship that would do said revolutions. I didn’t care, it was a fascinating concept with an equally fascinating design. It wasn’t on screen for more than a few seconds during Return of the Jedi; it probably had the least amount of screen time compared to the other Rebel fighters. No matter, I still liked it. And I was absolutely giddy when I found out it was getting the UCS treatment. My affection, however, may have set me up for disappointment.

Walmart Discounts 10188 Death Star Further, Now $337

Update: Amazon has price matched the set.

I realize we already reported on 10188 being discounted at Walmart, but this deserves a second mention since it has been reduced further. 10188 Death Star is now $336.87, which is about 16% or so off of MSRP of $399, down from their already reduced price of $357.89.

Amazon has yet to price match. They usually do but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time around.

Update: Amazon has price matched the set.

New Orleans Build Event This Saturday September 29

Do you live near the New Orleans and are looking for something to do this weekend? Well LEGO has your back. They are hosting an all night building event starting this Saturday September 29th. Come out and you can meet the one and only Master Model Builder Erik Varszegi. All the details are below:

WHAT: Come help LEGO Master Builders construct a 10’ tall vampire made entirely from LEGO bricks at this first ever all night LEGO building event. Build all day and then watch Lord Vampyre – inspired by the leader of this year’s Monster Fighters line – rise by the light of the full moon. Great visual opportunities with LEGO Lord Vampyre set against the backdrop of iconic Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral. This spooky celebration is open to the entire family and features something for everyone, including performances from New Orleans Saintsations and community costume contest.

WHEN: Saturday, September 29th to Sunday, September 30th

· Saturday:
o 12:00 PM-5:00 PM: Open brick building for Lord Vampyre model
o 5:00 PM: Lord Vampyre assembly begins
o 6:00 PM: Costume contest (for children up to age 14)
o 9:00 PM & 10:00 PM: Monster-inspired Saintsations dance performances
o 3:00-7:00 PM: LEGO Club Kids Activities

· Sunday:
o 6:00 AM hour: Master Builder, Erik Varszegi, will place final brick

WHERE: Washington Artillery Park Amphitheater
750 Decatur St., between St. Peter and St. Ann Sts.
New Orleans, LA 70116

I’m not sure if that Sunday 6:00am hour is a typo or what. It seems awfully early to place one final brick. Unless they really are going to stay up all night to build Lord Vampyre.

LEGO Death Star II Stop Motion Animation

I enjoy stop motion style animations like Francisco Prieto’s work with 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon, so I thought I’d pass along his newest since he took the time to share it in the forum. It took him over 1500 hours to render the animation, but the smooth continuous flow of the single camera sweep makes it all worth it, to me at least. I wonder if he takes requests…

Another LOTR Poster

LEGO Lord of the Rings

Not quite the heroic version of the Monsters and Villains poster posted yesterday, but pretty nice nonetheless. Courtesy of TooMuchDew’s photostream.

Pre-order the game yet? Gamestop still has the Elrond figure available. Don’t be like me and put things off until they’re too late.
