[SDCC] LEGO To Show Off Batman’s Tumbler at Comic Con

A few hours ago, USA Today revealed LEGO’s newest Ultimate Collector’s Set, The Tumbler from The Dark Knight. The Tumbler, based on Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, will be on display at the San Diego Comic Con this week starting Wednesday July 23rd. The LEGO Tumbler has 1,869 pieces, will retail for $199 and will be available starting in September. The Brand Retail store calendar for August shows an early bird access on August 18th which I can only assume is for this set. Included in the set are two minifigs: Christian Bale’s Batman and Heath Ledger’s Joker, pictured below.

    World’s Smallest LEGO Tumbler

You know, with the advent calendars offering ultra small models everyday for 24 days, some models really just suck hard. Of course, it could be worse. You could end up with a single element for the day. Larry Lars proves that great things can come in small packages. His micro-scale Tumbler pictured above is only 12 pieces. As a comparison, the AT-AT from day 10, which isn’t terrible, has the same piece count.

Now I’m wondering if a LEGO Super Heroes Advent Calendar is feasible. LEGO would probably have to make two separate calendars though, one for DC and one for Marvel.

And they would sell like gangbusters.

    The Bat

I received this press release in an email this morning detailing Warner Bros. licensing agreements for toys and merch surrounding Nolan’s final Batman film. And seeing as to how the movie is opening up this weekend, I’m a little puzzled as to why it’s being sent out today and not like a few months ago. But that’s not why I’m posting this. I’m posting it because it mentions that LEGO is releasing a set to support the movie. The exact quote is:

  • Remote Control Tumbler

It took me a while to warm to the Tumbler from the Nolan Batman films. I still think the Batpod is a bit gimmicky but regardless, pastormacman from our forums brings us this excellent Tumbler MOC that not only looks spot on but is remote-controlled enabled to boot. He’s even got video to prove it.
