So another year, and mostly the same format: Ace handling Star Wars, Eric looking at Harry Potter, and in a shocking turn of events, Nick not having to deal with a Marvel calendar dedicated to causing physical pain – he’ll be handling City this year because while his kids may be into Minecraft he decidedly is not (and also that thing was impossible to find in his area). As always, there will be some extra special bonuses, a lot of cheeky writing, tons of typos and things we miss that someone will demand we go and hire an editor to fix.
We will not do that.
Ace (Star Wars) – 4 Hit / 14 Misses
Eric (Harry Potter) – 10 Hits / 7 Misses / 1 Harry Potter
Nick (City) – 15 Hits / 3 Misses
Nick (Star Wars) – 3 Hits / 15 Misses
Ace (Star Wars)
A Christmas-themed mouse droid. You ever wonder what the point of a mouse droid was? Did it carry anything? Did it serve as a guide to show Stormtroopers the way? There was a quick scene in ANH I think, or maybe ROTJ, where it looked like a mouse droid was doing just that. Everyone on the Death Star was running around and there were some Stormtroopers following one. The lead Stormtrooper kept looking down as he followed it. I wonder if it was just the extra inside the suit trying not to step on it. There was the scene where Chewbacca yelled at one and scared it. Maybe it was just used for comic relief. I don’t know.
It’s such a simple build but it is recognizable. Were the clip plates supposed to look like reindeer antlers or something? Whatever, I give up trying to figure these things out. Despite that, I rather like the candy cane reindeer mouse droid.
Eric (Harry Potter)
We’re back to our Harry Potter deep cuts with Blaise Zabini, who somehow has three minifig designs at this point. What really struck me about this fig is the skin tone. Look close – that’s not the reddish brown we’re all familiar with.
No, in fact that’s a color called “Medium Brown”, which is only used for minifigs and minidolls skin tones. This is a lovely color and I hope we see it used for bricks one day.
Nick (City and Stuff)
Okay, so, it’s a snowman… but what’s with the tricone hat? Is this Paul Revere except in snowman form? Why not a top hat. I don’t know, this is fine I guess, but it feels so uninspired and kinda dull. I really don’t like the square middle, even though I know that’s the part with the things for arms. I kinda want to call this a miss, simply because they didn’t do all that much here and I think they could have been more innovative.
I like mouse droids, even though they’re supposedly just a worthless little thing that’s everywhere. It also begs the question of why hasn’t Disney ever made a Mouse Droid pet toy that just kind of wandered your house like a roomba, except basically doing nothing. Put a little sensor in it so it could run off if you yelled at it in Wookie. Still, we get some legit Christmas theme in a little build and I’m gonna call it a hit.
Bubble Ducky, you’re the one. You make bathtime, Soap much fun! Bubble Ducky I’m awfully fond of you. Bo bo bo de oh
