So another year, and mostly the same format: Ace handling Star Wars, Eric looking at Harry Potter, and in a shocking turn of events, Nick not having to deal with a Marvel calendar dedicated to causing physical pain – he’ll be handling City this year because while his kids may be into Minecraft he decidedly is not (and also that thing was impossible to find in his area). As always, there will be some extra special bonuses, a lot of cheeky writing, tons of typos and things we miss that someone will demand we go and hire an editor to fix.
We will not do that.
Ace (Star Wars) – 2 Hit / 4 Misses
Eric (Harry Potter) – 3 Hits / 2 Misses / 1 Harry Potter
Nick (City) – 5 Hits / 1 Miss
Nick (Star Wars) – 1 Hits / 5 Misses
Ace – Star Wars
I had to do my research to figure out who this droid was. This is R7-A7, owned by Ahsoka Tano. Makes sense why I didn’t recognize it as the entirety of the Clone Wars cartoon was something I never go into. It only appeared in one other set, 75401 Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor, so if you missed that one but like collecting droid minifigures, this day’s offering is especially nice. I dig it. Winner.
Eric – Harry Potter
Minifig #3! Draco Malfoy, who seems to also appear in every one of these Advent Calendars. I’ll admit, my Harry Potter knowledge grows shakier by the year, so I’m not really sure what this little octopus guy is. I want to say it’s something that lives in the lake that we see in the fourth book? But don’t hold me to that.
Neck up, it’s the same ol’ Draco. Love both faces here. He’s a very vindictive 11-year-old.
Nick – City
Maybe I need to give a new category for pure adorableness. This is just such a simple thing, with only a couple of parts and that tiny dog. But it’s perfectly done and cute, so I’m going to call it a hit. Maybe I just like miniature things.
Then again… do you remember a time when it was a special and exciting thing to get a unique astromech, protocol droid, or generic trooper type figure? It was so long ago that it’s all hazy and blurry… but this isn’t even a new special Astromech. I don’t know who they’re calling it here, but pretty sure this one was introduced as Ahsoka’s astromech in her old Clone Wars Jedi Starfighter. A miss, because it’s just an astromech and there’s nothing special about this.
It took all the self-control I had to not put this in as our new banner. Because that’s what Spam will ultimately get you too, and you need this angry and embarrassed little guy. Extra props to them for putting the “paper,” which is actually plastic, on a little spring wheel, so you can pull it out an inch or so and let it go back in.
