  • A Year of Polybags 139/260: 30071 Army Jeep Review

A Year of Polybags 139/260: 30071 Army Jeep Review

Today’s polybag, 30071 Army Jeep, is exactly like the other Toy Story Army set, 7595 Army Men on Patrol, just 1/4 the size.

Instead of four Army Men, you get one. Instead of a full sized jeep that can technically seat four with some creative attachments, you get a miniature one that barely seats one.

Cost wise this is a worse investment for army building Army Men than 7595. 7595 was about $10-12 MSRP and you get four army men and a nice sized jeep. This polybag was about $5 and you only get one army men and a way worse jeep. So yeah, it’s pretty much a worse army builder set.

And why does the jeep have this hourglass shape? The open sides around the driver’s seat is really bothersome.

I’m going to assume the handle on the side is for a minifig to grab while seated on the tile. I actually haven’t tested if that actually works, but why a tile? why not a 2×2 plate so it can fit another figure?

If you’re buying (or bought) a bunch of these to get multiples of this figure, then I’m sorry.

Does It Suck or Does It Rock?

This set sucks! There’s no value in getting this set at all unless you missed out on the thousands of 7595 Army Men on Patrol warming store shelves towards the end of the license.

You Can Win This And Every Other Polybag I Review This Year

I’ll be raffling every polybag I review this year in one big lot, all 260 sets (with the possibility of more). Each set will be individually stored in a ziploc baggie complete with the extra pieces, instructions, and the actual polybag bag it came in. The cost of a raffle ticket is just $1 USD and you can enter as many times as you want. Send a PayPal payment to paypal@fbtb.net for $1 USD for every ticket you want to purchase. DO NOT send one payment for multiple entries i.e. do not send one $5 USD payment for five tickets; five $1 USD payments must be made insteavd. Raffle is open to everyone in the world except where raffles are illegal. Be sure to put “POLYBAG RAFFLE” in the notes section of the payment in order to be entered successfully. Winner will be drawn sometime early January 2023 and contacted at the PayPal email address the payment was sent from to arrange for delivery. For a running list of all the sets that you can win, check this Google spreadsheet.

  • A Year of Polybags 26/260: LEGO Toy Story 3 30070 Alien Space Ship Review

A Year of Polybags 26/260: LEGO Toy Story 3 30070 Alien Space Ship Review

Do you remember in Toy Story 3 when Alien climbed into his rocket ship and orbited Earth? Neither do I but that’s what this set is trying to tell you. 30070 Alien Space Ship is a polybag that teases you one thing, a Space Ship, but delivers another, junk, and I don’t mean the Millennium Falcon kind of junk either.

One problem with the set is that it’s only 29 pieces with three of those used up by Alien. That leaves 26 pieces to do something with. Sadly, a bunch of those pieces are just 1×1 elements. I can’t help but compare this set to one of the best polybags I’ve reviewed that also includes a minifig and a vehicle, 30303 The Joker Bumper Car. That set has 47 pieces  and much more substantial pieces at that, pieces that can actually build something. You end up with an actual bumper car with zero compromises. So I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a “bumper car of space ships” kind of build, something akin to a Star Wars Microfighter set. I know Microfighters didn’t officially become a thing until years later, but Chibi-fied vehicles have been around for much longer.

Unfortunately, the amount of thought I put into this post is the exact opposite amount of thought put into the build. This honestly looks like a mini version of some ship that was lightly modified to add a control stick and expose some plates for Alien to stand on. The end product ends up feeling like it was phoned in and just an excuse to throw Alien into a polybag.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad idea. It was an easy and accessible way to build up an little green Alien army to populate a crane game or whatever. And the Alien minifig looks great with the printed torso and the uniquely molded head. But what LEGO should have done was just stick three of them in the bag, a tiny crane game build or somethign similar to satisfy the building toy requirement, and forget about any sort of space ship.

Does It Suck or Does It Rock?

This set sucks! The idea is well intended but the execution is lacking. That ship is just atrocious and not even the awesome Alien minifigure could redeem this set. Methinks, though, that those who seek out this set aren’t doing it for the build and that’s okay. But for five bucks it would have been nice to have something a little better designed.

    Sponsorship

There’s no sponsor this week, and with sponsorships lasting a whole week, you can get plenty of exposure for mere pennies. Pennies I say! Want to sponsor a review? Send me a message to admin@fbtb.net or hit me up on discord of the polybag set you have that you want me to review. If selected, in exchange for the set you’ll get a mention right here in the review post and a link to your website or social media account or just about anything else.. Nearly free advertising, so what’s stopping you?

Get Duke Caboom’s Stunt Show For Half Off

Duke Caboom’s Stunt Show, LEGO set #10767, is half off at just $9.99 over at Walmart. I finally bought one, how about you? Sadly, given the piece count, this is a lot closer to what this price should have been. I get Disney tax and all, but full price for this set is just ridiculous.

Toy Fair 2019: LEGO Toy Story 4 Preview

LEGO Toy Story 4 sets was a bit of a surprise. I guess it was always a safe bet that Toy Story 4 sets would be made but still.

These are the 4+ more junior sized range, much like the Incredibles 2 sets from last year. The best set in my opinion is the $10 Woody & RC set. Not only do you get Woody, AND RC that looks fantastic, but a set of three micro-fig Army Men. Sweet.

  • New Pixar TV Special Toy Story of Terror on ABC 10/16

New Pixar TV Special Toy Story of Terror on ABC 10/16

There is a new Toy Story special debuting next week at 8pm (7pm Central) Wednesday October 16, on ABC. From director Angus MacLane, Toy Story of Terror is Pixar’s first television production. The synopsis may seem a tad familiar if you’re at all a fan of horror movies, but count on Pixar to add their sense of humor to the mix. It’s a shame it’s only slotted for 30 minutes, which means about 22 minutes of actual screen time.

What starts out as a fun road trip for the Toy Story gang takes an unexpected turn for the worse when the trip detours to a roadside motel. After one of the toys goes missing, the others find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate in this Toy Story OF TERROR!
