Coulson’s back and Joss Whedon has rewarded him with a new team and a sweet ride for screwing him over (with an snazzy death scene *SPOILERS!* Crap, I was supposed to say that first) in last summers blockbusting Avengers flick. I’ve been impatiently waiting to share this news and while the world was a buzz last week, ABC was reluctant to confirm picking up Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. until the weekend when all their ducks were in a row. This promo aired during the season finale of Once Upon A Time and I’m guessing it added a few views to that shows ratings for the night as they also launched the first phase of their MAOS viral campaign. I’m really looking forward to this and was pleased to see the apparent confirmation of a suspicion I had regarding the casting of J. August Richards and the secrecy surrounding his character. After the unfulfilled rumours of a Heroes For Hire show and the scrapping of AKA Jessica Jones, I’m pleased to believe that the potential for these concepts to be wrapped into Agents is even greater and that isn’t lost on Joss. I look forward to finding out how Coulson has managed to remain breathing, the possibility of finally getting an agent Phil figure and the increased probability of seeing a fig based on a certain unbreakable skinned hero. Fingers crossed the cancellation curse will skip this Whedon television outing. Oh, and that it’ll be good.

So, the Avengers movie comes out on DVD/Blu-ray today, and if you’re like me you’ve been paralyzed by the myriad of purchasing options that are out there. I guess that’s one benefit of getting that suitcase 10-disc set that’s not coming out ’til the spring: you can buy it, be done with it, and not have to worry about missing out on any extras or goodies, ’cause anything else would pale in comparison. I think that whole lawsuit is really going to hurt the 10-disc edition sales as I can’t imagine a lot of people waiting long enough for it. The only other version that really appealed to me was the steelbook case that was a pre-order exclusive to Best Buy, but I totally found out about it too late so my chances are nil on getting that one. So now I’m stuck in circling pattern trying to figure out where to throw my money at to buy the movie. Having recently done a garage sale where I sold off a good majority of my DVD’s, I’m thinking digital’s the way to go, but you don’t get the cool extras like you can get with the Target 2-disc special edition version of the release. Rumor has it that the 90 minute bonus disc is the same bonus content you get with the 10-disc set. It’s only $19.99 and it comes with 2D Blu-ray and DVD versions of the movie. No digital copy but I suppose that’s what Handbrake’s for.
In other news, to celebrate the release of the movie, Amazon has price matched Target’s sale prices on the LEGO sets based off the movie. The best deal is 6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle, down 14% to $59.99. Full list is below:
Amazon has opened up pre-orders again for the 10-disc box set. The price is the same at $139.96. There are no additional details regarding the repackaged set but those details will probably hit the entertainment news sites/blogs before Amazon updates their page.
Did you already place your pre-order at Amazon and did you place it between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012? If so, you might have received the following email from Amazon like JamesBenjamin did:
Dear Amazon.com Customer,
We’re writing to let you know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as originally expected. Instead, Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and is expected to be available in the spring of 2013. To make this easy for you, we updated your order for the original collection and will ship the new collection when it becomes available. The price of the new collection will be the same as the original collection.
To show our appreciation for your understanding, we are providing you with a promo code to receive a free copy of Marvel’s The Avengers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging). To be eligible, you must have placed your order between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012. Any cancelled orders are not eligible to receive the free copy. Codes must be redeemed by October 15, 2012
Amazon posted the following on the pre-order page for the Avengers 10-disc Blu-ray collection, and the news is not good:
ITEM UPDATE: The “Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One–Avengers Assembled Collection” will not be released by Marvel as we originally expected. We know this delay is disappointing, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience this causes. Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and we expect it will be available in the spring of 2013. Additional information will be available on our website and via email when available.
Spring 2013 is a long time to wait. I was hoping Disney would do what Pixar did when they released the Luxo Jr. lamp and just come to a settlement. It could be that the luggage company’s demands were too high so I can’t blame the big D entirely. They’re going to miss the holiday sales rush though, and that can’t be good for the bottom line. Maybe they’ll release the movie back in theaters again to make up for it. Who knows…
To help pay for the lawsuit brought upon them by that German luggage company, Disney is re-releasing The Avengers back into theaters for 1 week. Starting tomorrow Friday August 31, you can catch the team assembling once again on the big screen through September 7. The announcement came via their Facebook page but I picked up on it via FirstShowing.net.
Thanks go to Ken for the lawsuit joke.
For those of you who pre-ordered Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled (10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set) [Blu-ray] from Amazon, there is a bit of news regarding its release. According to VideoETA, Disney pulled the listing due to a legal dispute regarding the design of the suitcase used to house the set. Amazon still has the page up but aren’t accepting any more preorders at this moment. It’s only a matter of time until the design of the case is changed or an agreement can be made but being this close to the release date though, I’m thinking the latter will most likely happen. Stay tuned here for updates.
The Avengers arrive on Blu-ray/DVD on September 25th, 2012.
Thanks to Morgan19 for the heads up.
Disney announced today that a date has been set for the Avengers sequel: May 1, 2015. The sequel will see the return of Joss Whedon to write and direct the film. A series of Marvel universe movies will be released between now and then including Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014, and Ant-Man.
Marvel brought their Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled 10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set to SDCC for a little show and tell before they released this trailer on Thursday. It’s a great looking set with a whack of extras and the price for pre-order on Amazon at the moment is $139.96 which is only $23 per movie. This set and the anticipation I’ve had for it is the reason I never bought any of these movies after Kevin Feige began to talk about the long-term plan for the MCU. It will also be the straw that breaks the camels back and forces me to buy a Blu-ray player…
Damn You 21st Century!
Our intrepid field reporter/head honcho type took these photo’s of the set in all its glory at SDCC where if you pre-ordered (for $189!) you’d get the sweet limited edition poster of the dvd packaging seen above.
Now that the dust has settled from the May the 4th and Revenge of the 5th promos from earlier this month, LEGO Shop@Home serves up another tantalizing treat in the form of the Hulk minifigure pictured above. This is a special Hulk figure that is not found in any sets. All you have to do is spend $50 and the minfigure will be automagically added to your cart for free, no code required. Offer is valid starting tomorrow from May 16th through the 31st or while supplies last. You can start shopping now, but remember, the promo starts tomorrow!
