[USA] Toys R Us BOGO 1/2 Off LEGO Books

Save the Galaxy

Toys R Us is having a buy-one-get-one-half-off sale on all LEGO books. This includes the Visual dictionaries, sticker books, Brickmaster books, and “Save the Galaxy” by Greg Hyland!

There’s also free shipping on all toy purchases $49 and up. I guess these qualify because they are about toys? Anyway, great excuse to pick up Greg’s book for yourself and one for a friend.

DK Publishing to Break World Record with Star Wars Mosaic

DK Mosaic

To celebrate the launch of their latest Brickmaster books, from Saturday October 23 through Monday October 25, DK Publishing will be hosting a free event at Shoreditch Town Hall, London and attempt to break the Guinness World Record of the largest LEGO mosaic ever assembled. Pictured above, the dimensions of the mosaic will be 16 meters x 7 meters comprised of 1,500 baseplates and 384,000 LEGO bricks. They say bricks but I’m pretty sure they mean plates. In any case, you can attend this free event by registering on the DK site. Registered attendees will also be included in a drawing for a 4 tickets to LEGOLand Windsor. You can read all the details and register at the DK website.

You can preorder the LEGO Brickmaster: Star Wars books from Amazon (use this link if you’re in the UK). US street date is scheduled for October 18

LEGO Star Wars Brickmaster Book

DK Publishing is adding a new book to their LEGO Brickmaster line of books: Star Wars! Yay! If you can look past the fact that it’s based on Clone Wars, it looks like it’s going be a pretty nice addition to your collection. Right off the bat you see two new MINI models: one of the AAT and the other a Republic Attack Shuttle. The shuttle is different than the one that was available from Target a few months back; this one seems bigger and beefier. And you get a clone and battle droid to boot.

Preorder is available from Amazon, and with a preorder you always get their low price guarantee, meaning you’ll pay the lowest price regardless of when you placed your order. Release date is set for November 1, 2010.

LEGO Brickmaster News

I just got my summer 2010 catalog in the mail today. Flipping through it, I noticed some pretty sweet things coming up for Brickmaster subscribers. The July/August set was already revealed; I can’t seem to find the thread but it is a MINI-scale Imperial Shuttle. The September/October set is Prince of Persia themed complete with Prince Dastan, the Dagger of Time, snakes, and a small playset. November/December is a MINI-scale AT-AT.

I remember when Brickmaster was the red-headed stepchild of LEGO’s product catalog. When the program was announced a few years back, it sounded promising. $40 bucks a year, a new LEGO set delivered to your door every two months, a bigger and beefier magazine than the free LEGO Club magazine, coupons to use at S@H, and a LEGOLand/LEGO Discovery Center ticket. Sounds good, right? Needless to say, it was a bit disappointing as the sets were the inexpensive sets that weren’t exclusive and can be bought almost anywhere, lots of Bionicle stuff, there was little magazine content that set it apart from the LEGO Club magazine, the coupons could be used by non-subscribers, and most people didn’t have any use for the free ticket. We complained. And they listened. Brickmaster subscribers now truly get exclusive sets and the next three cycles are proof of this. Except maybe the Shuttle. Anyways, you get my point. While the other perks of being a member hasn’t changed or hasn’t changed much at all, the sets alone are, I feel, worth the price. I just wish the designs were a little more aesthetically pleasing. Personally, I think the best Brickmaster set was the Indiana Jones jeep set from a few cycles back.

Next LEGO Star Wars Brickmaster Exclusive Revealed

Well, “discovered” would probably be the more appropriate term, but thanks to forum member bigospedros, the next Brickmaster exclusive set will be:

Completely underwhelming, I must say, since we already got a MINI AT-TE before. It looks much beefier than the previous one, but it lacks the printed wedge slopes that gave it that extra bit of detail. You can join the discussion already in progress:

And the next Brickmaster SW exclusive will be …
