Following in the footsteps of other themes, such as Star Wars and Castle, The Lone Ranger theme features a battle back in its lineup. And I find it peculiar. 79106 Cavalry Builder Set is one of two sets in the series to have cavalry minfigs, the other being 79111 Constitution Train Chase and there, it’s a single minifig. Cavalry and any other military presence are absent from the rest the sets making cavalry building a strange proposition. Maybe there’s a context I’m unaware of not having seen the movie, but since the cavalry play such a limited role in the sets, what is the motivation to get this set? (more…)

This happened a few days ago but I finally have some time to catch up. If you’ve been trying to get your hands on what looks to be a fantastic Lone Ranger line, you can pick up the full line or just the ones you want from both Amazon and LEGO Shop@Home. The prices are the same no matter which site you shop from. Amazon doesn’t charge tax to most states. Amazon has free shipping on orders $25 or more, free with no minimum if you’re a Prime member; Shop@Home will ship for free at $75 or more but you also get VIP points. You can’t lose no matter which option you pick, so pick your poison and play well:
- 79106 Cavalry Builder Set $12.99
- 79107 Comanche Camp $19.99
- 79108 Stagecoach Escape $29.99
- 79109 Colby City Showdown $49.99
- 79110 Silver Mine Shootout $69.99
- 79111 Constitution Train Chase $99.99
If you missed out on the early sales of The Lone Ranger sets from Walmart last week, Amazon has started accepting pre-orders for some of them with a shipping date set for April 15. They’ve listed the following:
No sign yet of 79109 Colby City Showdown, 79110 Silver Mine Shootout, or 79111 Constitution Train Chase but we’ll update this post as soon as they have them listed.
Walmart appears to be the first to pull the trigger on putting The Lone Ranger sets up for sale:
- 79108 Stagecoach Escape $29.97
- 79106 Cavalry Builder $12.97
- 79107 Comanche Camp $19.97
- 79109 Colby City Showdown $49.97
- 79110 Silver Mine Shootout $69.97
- 79111 Constitution Train Chase $99.97
Shipping is 97 cents per item with in-store pickup available around April 2. Big thanks go to ufjason for the heads up.
In case you’ve forgotten what the official box art looks like for the The Lone Ranger sets, here they are. The three sets I’m looking forward to are 79108 Stagecoach Escape pictured above, 79109 Colby City Showdown, and 79110 Silver Mine Shootout. But mostly the Stagecoach set because it’s awesome.
The last of the set videos to included Erik Varszegi’s demonstations cover the new Lone Ranger theme. When I first saw these sets I was underwhelmed to say the least, but after seeing them in person with Erik’s demos I’ve changed my tune. These are the rootin’-est, tootin’-est, explodin’-est, horse on a hot train roof sets I’ve seen and I want them all. On the same note, based on all the great play features and the thought of all these wild west explosions on screen, I have even less interest in seeing the film. Watch the videos and see for yourself.
Hi-yo, Silver! Away!
We just finished uploading all of our Lone Ranger photo assets (video is still to come!). With tons of play features (read as: exploding things), this series really does pay homage well to the old Wild West theme from a few years back, and provides excellent play opportunity for the little Michael Bay in all of us. There are a total of five sets ranging in price from the $12.99 79106 Cavalry Builder Set all the way up the $99.99 79111 Constitution Train Chase set. The absolute gem in the theme? Without a doubt, 79108 Stagecoach Escape.
We’ll be back after a short dinner break with Lord of the Rings and the non-licensed IPs.
