New Star Wars at Toys R US but.....

Postby HoosierZephyr » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:48 pm

I went to my locale Toys R Us in Big Flats, NY today and came across several of the new sets. I picked up a 9488-1: Elite Clone Trooper & Commando Droid Battle Pack and one of the new minifig packs. Took them up to check out, they scanned the Minifig, scanned 9488, scanned it again, then said, "Sorry, we cannot sell these to Jan. 23." I told her they were out on the shelves with others and she told someone they need to get them all off the shelves. They had 9491, 9488 & 30057.
I just shook my head.

I had the same experience with the new Y-Wing at a store in Bowling Green, KY.

Man... talk about a tease. And it's strange, because the Star Wars sets are already on the shelves of even regular toy stores here in Europe (and were available from January 2nd on S@H).

Only 9494 (Anakin's Jedi Inteceptor) and 9495 (Gold Leader's Y-Wing) here in Germany. Even on S@H they were the only new sets listed when I placed an order on Monday. Yesterday I noticed that the other sets now show up, but as "not available in this country".

The 2012 catalogue I picked up from my local toy store lists all of the new sets as coming February 2012 - except the Y-Wing which does not appear at all... :S (It's not an exclusive of any kind, is it?)

Gingerbread Man... Wow, how odd, but you're right! I ordered them from the Dutch S@H site, where all the new SW sets are currently available and in stock. Actually, both 9494 Anakin's Jedi interceptor and 9495 Y-Wing ARE sort of exclusive: I think they are meant to be store exclusives (the 'hard to find' sets on S@H), so they will not be available on general release (and therefor not in the catalog).
On another note, here in the Netherlands we are still waiting for the Superheroes sets to show up on S@H (except for the Batcave, which IS already available), while they are already available on S@H Germany.

I believe 9495 is a Toys R Us exclusive. They have it available for pre-order online - along with the obligatory TRU markup over MSRP, which had been dangerously close to the golden price-per-piece ratio. Amazon.com has everything but the Y-wing and the interceptor, and they seem to get everything but the exclusives. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12250923

Went to a TRU here in Bay Area(Fremont). All they had was 9491. The clerk looked at it funny and thought they couldn't sell them yet. Still it rang up on the reg. Only costed me 11.99 since I had two $5 coupons. They also had plenty of Tie Fighters at$59.99

Didn't get to Toys R US, but today I managed to pickup some of the new 2012 SW sets at Big W here in Australia, I thought I was over these, but I gave them a second look anyway.

I managed to get #9490 Escape Pod & #9489 Endor battle. and I have to say I was pleased with the sets, and even more surprised with the amount of mini figures in each set, they also had the 3 little planet sets, but as yet no X-wing or Tie which I would have liked. Has anyone sited the X-wing or Tie in Australia?

I got 7 of the sets yesterday in Pa. Only one missing was Anakins Starfighter. They also had the planet sets but I passed.

TRU in my area (WI) had 'em all out on the shelf (minus the Jedi Interceptor, a Target exclusive). Unfortunately, they were all marked up with the "TRU tax," which I thought was unusual. Don't they typically sell at MSRP before the official release date? Anyway, couldn't justify $15 for the battlepacks, $60+ for the starfighters. Pretty lame.

Yeah, sets are typically out for a couple of weeks before they jack up the price. They also usually reduce the prices closer to or at msrp after major buying seasons and that hasn't happened. It could be because they're expecting higher than usual sales for this time of year because of Episode I 3D. Or they're becoming overconfident in their abilities to gouge the average, uninformed consumer.

Hello Alldarker,

I see you bought your newest Lego Star Wars at the Dutch Lego Shop@Home.
If you look at other Dutch internetstores you can buy the smallest Battle Packs for € 4,95 less then at Lego Shop@Home, other sets are up to € 7,95 less to more than € 10,- You could have saved yourself a lot of money!

I went to a smaller ore local store today, The Hobby Shop in Aberdeen, NJ and they had all of the new 2012 sets save for the X-Wing, Y-Wing, and the Jedi Fighter. But they had the rest of the sets including the planet sets. Picked up the Endor Battle Pack and Droid Escape XD . I must say though that I'm not a big fan of C-3PO's new eyes.

I know the stores you speak of, and I do usually use them (especially the one in Delft), but with Star Wars Lego, I'm always very eager to get them. End-of-year bonus helped with making the costs easier to swallow. Besides, internet stores do not have the Y-Wing, which I was very keen to get.
I'll be in the US in april anyhow, planning on compensating some of the European Lego pricing when I'm there. Even the US TRU will seem cheap when compared to European prices! XD

So true, me neither... On my C-3PO, the yellow circles were printed slightly off-centre compared to the 'pupil' holes, which makes him look very weird (like he's looking upwards).

Hi there again! Well, went to a Target store here in Australia, and to my surprise, I spied the Tie & X-wing, along with the escape pod and Battle of Endor.
They where both on sale, but I couldn't find out how long for?
The x-wing was $95.20AUD and the Tie was $71.20, so happy days ; )

The sets , looked very good and a vast improvement on the older version.
