I't like Lego is going back to when it all started with SW in 1999.
Now if only they would re-release Darth's Tie in an update?

That commercial is awesome. Love the Death Star explosion, and the human arms holding the sets crack me up. I really want the X-Wing and Tie Fighter now.

I have been dying to get an x-wing with firing proton torpedoes, even if the are flickfire. I'm interested in the new TIE fighter canopies; is it just the bubble canopies from like say, the outrigger pods on the original Clone Wars dropship?

I think so, yes. I think it projects out too far forward, it's too round; but one model it'd be great for would be for a realistic TIE Defender (there's basically two different designs for the Defender out there; the most common one is a normal TIE cockpit ball with 3 TIE Interceptor solar wings reversed, but the other design that was in the TIE Fighter game series uses the solar foils of the TIE Advanced/Avenger, with a different fuselage and cockpit.

I had the galoob(?) toy of the TIE Defender with the 3 solar arrays & i loved that one, but one of the arrays broke completely off & was lost in one of my moves. It took nearly 2 years of searching for it & i loved it like a child.
The one in the tie fighter game wasnt actually called a defender was it? I thought it was called an X-something. Been yrs since i played it.
I'm looking closer at the TIE canopy now & i see click hinges instead of the fork hinge. Looks pretty cool. I was always a fan of the blue TIEs, but i'll pobably get the new gray one too.

But yes, the TIE defender shown in the above image is the original (as opposed to this version from the Essential Guide) and was referred to as such.

That new canopy piece would also work well for a scimitar assault bomber.

yea! that's the exact toy i had! and yes, my bad, i remember now, although i didn't know the wings were so screwed up. It was actually my fave ship to fly as i recall, with a close 2nd being the TIE Interceptor because of it's insane speed and agility. More often than not I'd paste myself on the side of a destroyer than make any meaningful impact in the combat, but boy was it fun. So they are supposed to be 2 different ships huh? bummer.
