10155 Maersk Cargo Ship

Postby schlectus » Tue Dec 21, 2010 10:48 am

According to a chap on Bricklink, the 10155 is out today...LEGO stores in Germany have them in stock. Anybody have any ideas on the cost, or how we can snag these in the States?

I think the original (10152) went for around $75 in 2004. Since the piece count is almost the same, I would assume it'd be similar with maybe a slight increase for inflation.

The 10155 is now up on S@H. Unfortunately it comes with a $45 price bump from the 2004 version. Those 2 extra pieces in the 2011 version must be seriously expensive to make. ;) Here's the link for those interested in Lego sculptures with loads of blue bricks: http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=Qfq2SUmeSyM&subid=&offerid=115554.1&type=10&tmpid=2294&RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fshop.lego.com%252FByTheme%252FProduct.aspx%253Fp%253D10155

I've got the original (MSRP was something like $75) and it's a great set...just not sure it's a $120 great. This one is an easy pass for me.

If the US economy was not in such a turmoil since end of 2007 this could have been maybe $90US or $100US. For 990 pieces that would have been appropriate, including any adjustment for inflation. The US price has been creeping up closer and closer to cdn prices. So double whammy for canadians, canadian price for similar product remains the same (ie expensive) and now its not worth it to buy from US sources with only $20 difference. Unless there's gotta be something about this set that is causing lego to spend more to make compared with other similar size products. Here's a look at similiar products: 2010 at at walker $110us $140cdn, 2009 home one $110us $140cdn, 2008 rgs $120us $140 cdn, and compare that to 2005 clone turbo tank $90us $140cdn and 2002 rgs $90us $140cdn. I am just using sw lego sets because I knew these off the type of my head and are unique to the $140cdn price point.

I guess LEGO sees the things going for ~$180 in the second hand market and figures they can ask a bit more than $90. It's a nice enough set but at $120 I'm not interested.

I suppose some justification could involve all the "rare" Maersk blue bricks (well, duh!)...bearing that in mind makes the price/part ratio not too entirely horrible, if you're willing to accept the aftermarket price-hike on that color. But yeah...$120...that is quite a bit to swallow, especially with things like Diagon Alley beginning to surface. I'll pick one up anyway...I've been wanting one of these for awhile, and it beats having to pay the premium coinage that the old versions demanded. Has anybody seen these in the retail LEGO stores in the States?

I was ready to jump and buy this set too for the rare maersk blue bricks but this new version does not use them based on what I read; therefore no justification for the price based on these blue bricks. The original holders of this set can breathe some relief I guess that there is still some value in their set but probably not as high as before.

I'm thinking a possible reason (or one of several) for the excessive price hike might be due to smaller production numbers than the previous version.

And, has anyone learned what the two additional components are yet?

About the color change, I sent an e-mail to LEGO:
Arkov wrote:I've heard rumors of the color changing on the new Maersk container ship (10155), can you confirm that the color on this ship is the same as the previous Maersk ship (10152)?

And they replied:
LEGO wrote:Thanks for getting in touch with us.

The rumors that you have heard are untrue. To my knowledge the blue color of the Maersk product line is a specific color for Maersk and is therefore considered in licensing agreements with the company when we create the container ships and other items. The Maersk Container ship is really a beautiful set and I am sure that you will be happy with not only the colors, but the build itself!

Previously the 2 large bridge windows had the glass factory installed. Now they are 2 windows and 2 sets of glass.

thanks for the update. Because of the different creation process of the colored bricks I wonder whether they are exactly the same. I understand there were 3 versions, the first version was only given to the employees, then they changed the maersk blue and made a 2nd version available to the public, now this version which should be the same as the second except for extra pieces and stickers as noted.

Really? So the first two versions have two different maersk blue colors???

Anyway, I was so stoked when I first heard last year about this set coming out, but somehow someway I managed to snag a brand new older version for $100 + $13 shipping a couple months ago.

As far as I know, the only difference between this new version and the old ones are the stickers...Do the real maersk sealands have "Maersk Line" on the side or "Maersk Sealand" on the side? I thought it was "Maersk Sealand" like the older versions had.
Don't you waste away, for tomorrow will soon be today

4 total versions. All have the same color of Maersk Blue bricks.

10152 2004 release (for employees and extra's sold at S@H) Stickers and box say Maersk Sealand (the companies name at that time)

10152 2005 release (sold at S@H) box says 2005 on front . Stickers and box say Maersk Sealand

10152 2006 release (for employees) Stickers and box say Maersk Line (the company had changed it's name back to the old one and asked for another run reflecting this.)

10155 2010 release (sold at S@H) Stickers and box say Maersk Line. Stickers have a different sheet number from previous releases. Part count increased by 2 since the 2 large windows now ship without the glass preassembled in them. Also the 2 x3 inverted slopes and macaroni bricks are of the newer style.

Anyone wanting to get this set, rumor has it it's been retired. Grab one while you can, unless you want to wait it out and see if the price drops.
