LEGO Star Wars TV Special

LEGO Star Wars animated special? If this article at ComingSoon.net is true, then you'll be able to see a LEGO Star Wars special hit the small screen this September, in addition to whatever the new animated series will be.

An exciting surprise at the Licensing International Expo 2011, LEGO Star Wars is set to receive a small-screen special this fall. ComingSoon.net spotted the below art for the television event and, while details were few, was told that the special is likely for late September.

Based on the popular video game series, the LEGO TV special is being created in addition to a second, previously announced Star Wars cartoon series. That new series has been given the following official update:

Today, George Lucas is hard at work on a second animated series that will complement 'The Clone Wars', taking 'Star Wars' in a completely new and fun direction

With the franchise celebrating its 35th anniversary next year, LEGO Star Wars should be a welcome addition to the ongoing animated series, the upcoming 3D re-release of The Phantom Menace and the first-ever release of both trilogies on Blu-ray this fall.

I don't know what to think about the new series. A series exploring the humorous side of the Star Wars universe could be a lot of fun, but if George Lucas himself is "hard at work" on it....I'm sorry, but I have already seen ample evidence that what Lucas thinks is funny is nowhere near what I think is funny. The only way it could work is if he were to hire people with a GOOD comedic sense, and keep his own hands OFF.

A Star Wars Lego series would be great, but the prospect of taking a new animated series in "a completely new and fun direction" send shivers down my spine.

I'm assuming this second animated show is the show Seth Green is involved with. I hope its better than The Clone Wars, which has been very hit or miss with me (at least the episodes I've seen, accounting for about half of the entire run so far), but I'm not going to get my hopes and expectations up, since this is Star Wars we're talking about.

For a second there, I thought the article implied the new series would be entirely Lego Star Wars. A comedic look at the movies and show in the medium of animated (CGI) Lego. But I guess that was the wrong impression (thank goodness?). Unfortunately, the alternative doesn't look more promising. I can't see myself getting interested in something that "complements" the Clone Wars show. I'm sick of the Clone Wars now. And that's a horrible thing to admit, personally, since all that cool stuff that was released back when that was relevant (you know, 2002-2005) was all part of fond memories for me.
I think TRON-based Lego sets would be awesome!
"Yeah, well, y'know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man."
