Wanted: 1 Laptop-stealing jerkface.

Someone stole my personal laptop out of my bag at work yesterday. Had everything on it, pictures, school work, wedding stuff.

It's almost like getting an arm cut off, having something like that stolen from you. Weird feeling.

Don't you have to pay monthly service fees for those? Personally, I'd recommend going with an external hard drive for backup and extra storage. I bought mine over a year ago and bought the smallest one I could find, which was 500 GB. There are up to 2 TB models currently available, although how you could fill that much space up is beyond me. I found it easy to install and use, and I've been very happy with it. It's made updating my computer a less stressful operation, as I always do a full backup before updating, which means if things go sour, I won't lose any data.

Anyways, hindsight is always 20/20 and it sucks when things like this happen. There very rarely is a "happy ending" and the best you can hope for is to learn from your mistakes and move on.

You do, but if you dig around you can find rather reasonable rates and it saves your butt if something happens, God forbid, to your home/office/whatever.

I have a very harsh attitude towards the scum of the earth parasites who steal from other people. I'd shoot someone running away with my laptop, or even an old dirty pair of socks, without hesitation. A thief is a thief is a thief, they don't deserve to exist with the rest of us.

Sorry to hear that Collin. I wish I could wish you that you'll find the guy and/or that you'll recover the data that was on your computer, but the reality is that you have better odds of winning another more powerful laptop...

Nope! Try Dropbox. It only costs money if you need a LOT of space. I use it for document backup; everything else gets Time Machine'd to a 1TB external drive.

Anyway, I know it sucks. We had a burglary at our house about 5 years ago. They didn't take a whole lot, mostly jewelry, but the feeling of having something stolen just sucks.

He's not going to bring it with him if he's going to the bathroom. It's not like he left it unattended on public transit or something, he was at work.

Sorry to hear about that Collin. Hopefully you can find the guy (or girl) and get back what's rightfully yours. I've never had a laptop stolen, but I have been the victim of theft before (for much smaller things)--I can only imagine how bad this must feel.
