Monthly contests *without prizes*?

I was thinking that it would be cool to have monthly or every-other-monthly contests. Not big ones like the Pod Racer contest but smaller ones like a Star Wars impulse set or battle pack contest. What do you think?

We used to have community builds just like you're suggesting, but there weren't many ideas generated so it died out quickly, and there wasn't much interest in the few we ran due to the lack of incentive. Maybe we could retry this a little differently - post a theme of the month and just feature the best MOCs on the mainpage?

I support that entirely. This site has lately been turned into "Find deals on LEGO sets here! (plus look at MOCs over on flickr and in the forum)"

I definitely second that notion. Maybe the occasional alt-build "contest" (I hesitate to call it that, since prizes might be few and far between, and it could be hard to really verify that no pieces not included in the original set were used), theme build, and maybe even a type of game where people who wish to participate are put in an ordered list, the first person lays down up to five pieces, posts a picture, the next person builds that and adds another five pieces, and so on down the list, and see what gets made.

On CABG we've created a simple little icon similar to your Ambassador icon that floats around from month to month to that months winner of each Group Build until the next months winner takes it way. Kind of like the Stanley Cup.

It's simple and free.

Yeah, we had a plan for including special forum badges for contest winners... just never followed through with it. Thanks for mentioning it though, it's a good idea to revive.
