Minifigures, are they kept on record?

Postby Marty » Mon Sep 28, 2009 2:38 am

It's a vague question, but one I would love an answer too.
When Lego makes a unique minifigure (Batman, Spiderman, Star wars, etc.), do they store it for future reference, and if so where?
Is this on view to the public?
There are also countless other minifigures too many to name, that have been made for many themes over the years, is there some sort of picture record for these?
Any info on this would be great, many thanks, Marty

I'm sure LEGO keeps records of every part they make, but they don't have a public catalog. But Bricklink.com might be of interest to you.

LEGO keep at least one copy of every set, MISB, in a storage facility at their HQ in Billund, Denmark. It's known as 'The Vault' - see this article at gizmodo.com for a little more info -

So, by default, they have every minifig there, but sealed in its box. I believe the minifig design teams keep reference figs on display for their own use as well, but it probably just includes the figs relevant to that team.

None of these are open to the public.

Thank you so much for the information here, I can't believe it! It's the holy grail of Lego!!!
This started me thinking when I started collecting, I was six years old, I got bought for Christmas a double set of Lego, can't remember the number though, all I can remember was that the trees where flat and that it came with a Lego flag.
I left this and many other sets, back in Ireland in 88 never to see them again, I've since found out they went by way of the dustbin when my parents moved.
I still had the box as well as the first electric motor and a six wheeled space rover.
Ah, those where the days. Thanks again for linking the little movie, it was well worth it, regards Marty

Marty - I was recently very privileged to spend some time with LEGO in Billund, and I was able to visit the company's Museum ...

Some of these photos might bring back some memories :-)

That's the trees alright, brings back memories, mine was pretty basic though, had large wheels and large windows, and doors that didn't open, but I had great fun with it, thanks again for this, regards Marty
