San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusives

This year, LEGO is trying something new. In addition to the Brickmaster exclusive set (which is still a bit of a mystery), they are also offering “Collectible Display Set” which consist of three minifigs, a printed backdrop in a clear plastic display box. There are a total of 5 sets, one for each day of the show. No word on the total number of each set yet, but I’m pretty sure they’ll be limited. The funny thing is, is that there are 5 days to Comic Con including Preview Night, and there are 6 exclusives. Not sure what the deal is but once I find out more information, I’ll post it here.

How To Get A Chrome Stormtrooper For Cost

If youre hankering for a chrome Stormtrooper and dont want to pay inflated prices, youre in luck. Maybe.

You can order a Chrome Stormtrooper directly from the park. Cost is $12.99 plus tax if you live in California, and shipping starts at $7 for UPS ground. If you take a peak at this page, there are three ways you can order: phone, fax or email. The reason I said maybe is because I have had no luck trying to hail someone using the phone method, but you may be luckier than me. If youre emailing or faxing, youll need the following part number: 4560075. This is actually a magnet set, and you only get it the one figure. But it comes in a neat little anniversary-themed package. Limit two per order.

    Good luck!

Update: I’ve been told that the park can no longer accept any orders at this time due to wanting to save a supply for this weekends Star Wars Days. If anything changes, I will update this post once more.

Chrome Stormtrooper Minifig just in time for Star Wars Weekends

Talk about out of left field: apparently LEGOLand California has already started putting these out for sale – because Eurobricks member PDQAg picked one up last Friday. More pictures available in his Webshots album here. And my thanks to Dano for tipping me off about it, I need one to go with my other chrome minifigs!

    Life-sized LEGO Destroyer Droid

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

There was an event at LEGOLAND, CA called the Star Wars Galactic Challenge Building Contest. The winners of the challenge (one in each age group) were able to pick a droid of their choosing to be rendered in LEGO form as part of the eye-popping prize package. One of the winners picked a Destroyer Droid, of which FBTB was able to get exclusive pictures of. You can read all about it and see the pictures of the model on it’s featured page:

I got another email with some more May 4th goodies. Right now, you can order 10179 Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falconicon at a discount of 25% off, $374.99.

    The email also states:

  • UCS Models by Gareth

    UCS Models by Gareth

Gareth Bowler, longtime SW mocmaker extraordinaire, has been posting some new/newish/old models to Brickshelf. Here’s a couple of his latest, a UCS Speederbike, and an updated A-Wing!

Click here for the full gallery!

Of the two, my favorite is the speederbike, which has some really great details I like, such as tires for the handle grips, and some fantastic greebling where the steering vanes connect to the main body.

Click here for the A-Wing gallery!
The A-Wing is sleek as ever. The canopy stands out to me.
Click here for the full UCS gallery, which includes a new TIE Interceptor, Swamp Speeder, and General Grievous Fighter.

We’ve gotten emails and forum posts from people asking where Gareth’s spotlight page from the old site is. It’s archived, but we’re still trying to cement our plans for handling spotlights here on the new site. Although we may not end up featuring individual builders with their own pages like we used to, we still intend to highlight the best and most amazing Star Wars-related creations we find.
