Amazon Discounts Super Heroes, TMNT Sets

76004 Spider-Cycle Chase

Amazon is discounting a few Super Heroes sets at 20% or better. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets are also seeing a modest discount. And speaking of TMNT, sets based on the stupid movie are also available.

And finally, sets based on the movie. And boy does that movie look stupid. And you know it’s bad when the fifth Step Up movie is rated higher on Rotten Tomatoes than the TMNT movie. The toys look slightly less stupid but I will admit that the van set looks pretty good and will probably roll better than the Shellraiser. I’ve provided links to both Amazon and LEGO Shop@Home for these sets.

Images of Movie TMNT sets

Well, I guess I can’t keep saying that Canada has never given us anything*… Canadian retailer Indigo has listed two of the sets from the upcoming Shrek-sequel by Michael Bay, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The fact that the box art is missing the critical “Teenage” and “Mutant” words worries me, but the sets are firmly in the “eh” category.

We get two sets, the 368 piece Turtle Van Takedown and 743 piece Big Rig Snow Getaway. The Turtle Van has a good name but strikes me as too small and not nearly turtle-van enough for my tastes (it’s like a big green tumbler that’s had too many pizzas). The Big Rig set seems like a decent big rig trailer, though the cab looks kind of phoned in. Maybe we’re kind of lucky that the Lego licensed sets seldom look like anything from the movie, and that’s why either of the sets could be dropped alongside the existing TMNT stuff.

But hey, I’m not even a big fan of the sets, so share what you think of them. And thanks to the several people that sent this in!

*I realize that Canada gave us William Shatner, Nathan Fillion, and John Candy, but I think we can all agree that they’re cancelled out by Mike Myers, Jim Carey, and Hayden Christensen. That’s to say nothing of dumping Beiber, Celine Dion, and Bryan Adams on an unsuspecting US…

Toy Fair Report: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

QO5C3999

A new year, a new crop of LEGO TMNT sets and they were awesome. Even the Michael Bay turtles looked kinda fun if you ignored everything you know and love about the ninja turtles. Before you click through, unfortunately we weren’t able to take any pictures of that line. I can say though that they translate well into LEGO form. They are using different molds for the characters than the ones from the movie. Splinter is re-imagined from the current cartoon. Shredder looks more or less the same. The sets look kind of fun, but like I said, you’ll have to let go of any history you may have of the franchise. Even then, you still have to contend with Michael Bay and we all know what he’s done with Transformers. Me personally, I don’t think I’d get any of the Bay turtles. Anyways, continue on if you wanna see what’s in store for the Nick cartoon license. I’ve added the set names, piece count, and price points for the Bay turtles at the end of the list. Enjoy!
