Where in the world is Carmen Steviego?

Postby Draykov » Tue Oct 12, 2010 3:29 pm

Now, I know Steve is still around and active in the community (exhibit A). This is in no way meant to be a rant thread about his absence here at FBTB (ye be warned). Even though, when you get right down to it, it's really none of our business, I'm still curious - where has Steve been?

My best guess is that he's busy doing world-wide community outreach and with LEGO's increased efforts to connect with fans (and AFOLS in particular) the LEGO Ambassador Program was sort of meant to fill the void Steve and others had occupied in the community in previous years since they're now busy on a more global scale. Is that even close? Anyone closer to the source know?

As his shirt in the picture says, he works for the LEGO Company. He is\was our "inside man" for info about TLC and other things LEGO-related.

Sorry, I forget sometimes that the number of members who've joined since Steve went missing is ever on the increase. I'm not sure what his current title is, but once upon a time he was the LEGO Community Relations Coordinator. A lot of that job involved coming to this site every so often to steal all of our good ideas and taking them back to the mothership (I kid, I kid). All kidding aside, Steve was a valuable resource for reliable information straight from the company. I'm sure he still is, he's just not doing it around these parts so much. Before Steve, it was Jake McKee (author of Getting Started with LEGO Trains), but he left the company for a new job and Steve took his place.

We've been very lucky here at FBTB to have direct company representation in the forums for years. Too bad we all took it for granted, I guess.

He must be really busy because he hasn't updated his blog since March.

The "Ask LEGO" forum has been pretty dead for awhile anyway. Perhaps he's been around but not posting? Who knows.

On the flipside, as Steve has been absent, Ace's activity has increased. Curious...mayhaps this is some sort of conspiracy?

Take the "LEGO" out of "Ask LEGO" and that'll happen.

I figured Steve's absence could have something to do with the dropping of the RtB policy, he hasn't been around these parts much since the site update, has he?

Hi folks, I'm still alive. I'm still coordinating North American interactions with AFOLs for the LEGO Group. Unfortunately my online presence is mostly limited to facebook and twitter now as the majority of my job focuses on club interaction and events. I'm still around just don't get to post on many forums anymore.

I still think this is all a conspiracy. Frankly, I'm starting to believe Ace and Draykov are the same person as well, what with their similar speech patterns. ;)

Too weird to be coincidence.

Not really, I mean their personalities are different.

It is odd. Has anyone ever seen them in the same place at the same time? I just assumed that Draykov was meeotch with a lock button XD

Huh, that is a good observation. Naturally, I still stand by my original theory, but we can assume that meeotch must be the same person who is behind this amalgam of handles. It makes sense too--meeotch and speaknspell haven't been too active as of late, but onions and Draykov have been; this indicates the mystery individual can only post under two screen names at a time. I'm on to you, sir.

Speaking of meeotch(/onions/speaknspell/Draykov), thank you so much for inventing this:

I just think that it's funny that everyone who understands English punctuality rules and knows how to conjugate a verb is assumed to be the same person. ;)
